The devil is known to have appeared at a crossroad around the Mississippi Delta, granting insane musical talent for the ultimate price... Did he do one for Douglas? Perhaps as a amuse bouche? perhaps he took pity on a man who loved his mama and decided... "well im not going to take your soul, but you have Cindarella terms, one night kiddo! shine buster shine!" and then a poof of fire and smoke, the rest is history.

How good would that Buster do? against the likes of some other great heavyweights?

If I have to list some of em...

    1. Liston, the other glaring destroyer.
    2. Klitsko Vlad the impaler, I mean hugger...
    3. Foreman?

Douglas fought the fight of his life, but Tyson barely trained, was partying the night before, etc. He took Douglas as a joke and learned a big lesson.

Did he? What did you see him learning?

He learned not to underestimate his next opponents. With Richie Giachetti as new trainer, he pulverized Henry Tillman and Alex Stewart in one round apiece. Beat a still dangerous Ruddock twice. He was set to fight Holyfield in that moment, and I'm not sure Evander would have won that fight in 1991.

Douglas would lose bad to all three. He hated training, loved eating, and was twice the quitter casuals say Tyson is. Just see what he did against Tony Tucker - a fight he was winning - and Holyfield. Hell, he was almost knocked out by Tyson himself that night.

Douglas is claimed to be some special talent who was only great one night which happened to be against Tyson(who has all the excuses in the world for that loss but that's another subject) but the reality is we have seen that Douglas before. He lost to Tony Tucker because he lacked heart. He overcame adversity against Tyson but he had more than a minute of recovery time(not talking about the kd count) after Tyson knocked him down. So he's already at a disadvantage against any legit HW ATG.

Now on the technical aspect. The positives: Douglas was tall with a long reach which he knew how to use. He set everything up with a stiff jab, from long range he used good footwork to offset his opponents. He even showed the ability to fight in close.

Negatives: His hooks were often very looping causing him to overextend his punches when he missed and put himself off balance. Good footwork but he didn't really move too well, kinda lacked athleticsm. His endurance was lacking. Lacked a chin and heart, couldn't really thrive in a tough dog fight where his opponent actually hit him back.

So there you have it. Good fighter, grew up in a golden era of HW boxing where there were a lot of talented trainers so he learned legit skills. But nothing special.

They all knock him out with the exception of the very hesitant Vlad. Douglas out jabs and then pulverized the walking statue late.

                - -Took undefeated Tony to the proverbial wall before being KOed. Seriously, watch the fight.

I watched it live in 1987 as it happened.

As I said, he was winning without question. Still, as soon as he started to get hit seriously he lost any will to fight on. Look at his lack of reaction as the fight is stopped. Absolute lack of character, if you ask me.
