Mate I've been posting in this section for 15 years I was posting here when the section was great when it had about 100 regular posters.

NSB's terrible but there's traffic so I post there. It's rarely good discussion's but it's dicussion none the less.

This section was great around 2012 but it's been a ghost town for a very long time.

Let me steep your ăss. Tyson was a heavyweight Rubin hurricane Carter with a mighty set of traps, baffelt by slick boxers.

Tyson's corpse always matters when people mention his defeats vs Lewis and subsequent nobodies. Generally speaking, I mean.

And Holyfield's aged corpse did matter when people said he was robbed vs Valuev. For the record, those people include yours truly.

          - -King paid him $75K to be rolled out as living cadaver with no boxing license in a country with no boxing commish. Did King not pay him?

Well then stick around and make the section better. Doesn't seem like such a ghost town to me. I see new posts here every day I check in.

What's even funnier, Valuev didn't want to fight Holyfield at first because he deemed him too old. Then they fought, and the rest is another rotten chapter of boxing history.

I think this whole website is damn near a ghost town. Nothing like what it used to be. I have a sneaking su****ion that message boards like this have run their course and fans have moved on to different ways of getting together online.

I've never heard anyone outside of the usual Eastern Euro racists holding Tyson's losses to Lewis or McBride ect against him in any sort of career evaluation. And I personally don't give a rat phuck what Tunney or any of his ilk think about anything. As for Valuev, that fight said nothing about Holyfield: It spoke volumes about how worthless Valuev truly was that he objectively lost to a ******** corpse.

There is a very high percentage of self-professed boxing historians around here who keep doing exactly what you just said you don't see. The usual groundless "Tyson blather" that indeed should not be taken into account. But it does exist.

Anyhow. Neither Tyson nor Holyfield were out-and-out "corpses" in the final stretch of their career, the lone exceptions being Tyson's fights against Lewis and McBride.

A severely worn-out Tyson still put Cliff Etienne upside down with a single shot. And the much-mentioned Danny Williams fight was lost by Tyson only because he injured a knee after having lifted Williams from the floor with an uppercut in the first round.

A supposed corpse - Holyfield, I mean - did lose badly vs Toney at 41, but it was more a very bad night than a case of degradation. After the Toney defeat, Evander fought on until he was 49 or so, winning seven of ten fights (I consider Valuev as a win), losing only on points vs Donald and Ibragimov. He defeated several well-known opponents when he was practically an old man. Maddalone, Savarese, Oquendo, Valuev, Botha, Nielsen. That's not what I call a "corpse". He was an aging heavyweight who was still convinced of being able to stay at the top of the division, until his body told otherwise. Quite a difference with the Tyson who got butchered by Lewis while on drugs, and who quit against McBride.

Ultimately, many people had already urged Holyfield to retire after the Bobby Czyz fight, they were saying that his health was at serious risk against Tyson, and look at what happened then. Ups and downs were a constant in Evander's career, see also his fights with Alex Stewart and Michael Moorer (the latter being another blown-up light-heavy who beat him, incidentally. Czyz was a former light-heavy as well, but at least he lost the fight). Even in the Bowe trilogy Holyfield oscillated between glory and disaster, even in a single fight (the third, naturally, not to mention the famous 10th round in the first meeting).

Therefore, the "Toney beat Holyfield's corpse" logic doesn't stick.

I believe when it comes to his boxing ability he is a bit underrated. The peek-a-boo isn't a complicated style, but physically it's very hard to perfect. Of the fighters that used that style, there aren't many that were successful. Other than Tyson, Patterson and Torres, I can't think of any, and I'd rate Tyson over both Patterson and Torres. Tyson's footwork and head movement are great. Add his power and quickness to it, and you have one of the all-time-greats. Is he top5? Maybe not, but I'd rate him top 15. JMHO
