I was always partial to "The Hammer" but off the top of my head, cannot remember who had that nickname. Hammerin Henry Armstrong is all I can think of at the moment

Some of my Favs:
Hen The Game Chicken - LPRR era
Rump Steak - also LPRR
The Three Farts - Pugni era, bonus: he fought and beat a man called The Nose. That's right, The Three Farts defeated The Nose....just ****ing fun.

Wasn't someone called thew Hebrew Hammer? I know there's a tv movie by that name because when I search it that's the overwhelming result but I'm pretty sure there was a Hebrew Hammer way before that movie.

Michael "Second To" Nunn was not bad.
As for the why, well - it's self-explanatory. And I wasn't even a fan of him. But the nickname is nice.Last edited by Tatabanya; 09-28-2021, 03:09 PM.Flickergrab98

I grew up with the grown-ups around me referring to Armstrong as "Hammerin Hank" not "Homicide Hank" as Boxrec posts. But when it became obvious that Hank Aaron had a realistic chance to catch Babe Ruth's HR record the media started applying the name to Aaron (Hammerin). It's pretty much his now; it seems lost Armstrong.
