Early on Duran campaigned as 'Rocky' Duran. That certainly didn't work.

At least he still has Hands of Stone as his nickname. That’s one anybody would be happy to have as part of their legacy.

Jared Anderson with an odd one "The Real Big Baby" - meanwhile Miller was boxing years before him.

I’m surprised no one has brought up Mike McCallum yet. The Body Snatcher is just such an ingenious nickname

I stumbled across a newspaper article circa 1934-35. It was a ******* who was bemoaning the fact that the racist newspapers were using so many derogatory animal names in describing Joe Louis that Louis couldn't be given a great animal name.

He wanted to call Louis "The Jungle Cat" - but he knew he couldn't.

He saw "Cat" as descriptive of his lightening fast hands and killer instinct and "Jungle" as a tribute not an insult to his heritage.

So he had no choice but to throw in with The Brown Bomber. ***

Of course today, with the WOKES, both Jungle Cat or Brown Bomber would not be acceptable.

*** For years I assumed that Louis picked up the name Brown Bomber sometime during WWII. I was amazed when I discovered that they were calling him that as early as 1935. Certainly no connection to the War. I wouldn't have thought the term 'bomber' was even part of the American lexicon at that point in time.

Actually, McCallum’s biggest rival also had one of the best nicknames ever: “Lights Out” Toney.
Between the two, who do you guys think had the better one?

Come on man, "Homicide Hank" is the best nickname in sports to me.

It's just so final. Like this dude will literally not just end your career, he'll end your life, violently
