Take the boxer’s hometown and add an accurately descriptive title at the end to creative an often alliterative two part nickname.(e.g. Galveston Giant, Brockton Blockbuster).
The Louisville Lip; Boston Strong Boy; Barbados Joe (Walcott); .. . Has anyone ever been proud to be from New Jersey?

I grew up with the grown-ups around me referring to Armstrong as "Hammerin Hank" not "Homicide Hank" as Boxrec posts. But when it became obvious that Hank Aaron had a realistic chance to catch Babe Ruth's HR record the media started applying the name to Aaron (Hammerin). It's pretty much his now; it seems lost Armstrong.
          - -Used to collect baseball cards as a kid before he was the Homerun king, and he was always Hammerin' Hank, but point in fact like many in line with the NAACP, he wanted to be called by his given, Henry, not Hank. Sorta like Minnie Minoso wanted to be called by his elaborate Spanish name(Yes, I know he was born in Cuba) of Saturnino Orestes Armas Minoso...

James Bone crusher Smith was a good one, but I love The Motor City Cobra, aka the Hitman from Detroit. A bit greedy for Tommy Hearns to bag two great names!

Did he change his nickname after he failed to stop Leonard or had he switch from 'hit man' to 'cobra' before Leonard I?

I need to go back and watch the introduction for Leonard I and see which name he is using.

EDIT: No I was wrong he was using Cobra for the Leonard fight. So much for my theory.

There was a football player named Fred Williamson who was called "The Hammer." He played for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 60's and played in the first Super Bowl.

One nickname I liked was "The Master of Disaster" which was one of the nicknames for Hector Camacho early in his career.

The Hitman is my second favorite nickname other than the one I talked about in OP. It’s just so intimidating! An excellent name for such a powerful puncher. You can tell it’s a great name when several boxers have used it since then, like Ricky Hatton or Jermall Charlo. But in all honesty, to me there will only be one true Hitman
