pinklon thomas should be on the list
Who was the worst Heavyweight Champion ever?

Pinklon Thomas was a good fighter before coke addiction brought him down. He may not have been an ATG but really: How many true ATGs are there? It's like Bruno. He was another good fighter but people only seem to remember his two fights with Tyson who arguably IS an ATG. There seems to be some confusion between degrees of good and bad here. It seems a fighter can only be an ATG or a bum with no levels in between. Sad.

With Johnson, Lamotta and Pep, you could see the obvious talent. There wasn't much talent obvious with Firpo.
I personally do think fixed fights tarnish your career, especially when the vast majority of your career consists of fights where one guy takes a dive to build up the other's record.
Every week at least a couple fighters clearly robbed in the US alone. Sports in general open to fixes with such huge money generated by the ******** industry.
Heck, why do you mess with life in general? So many fixes out there. What do you think that Credit Default Swap mess was? Biggest fix in history, multi trillions and still counting.
Back to the thread which gives us a poll, but open ended parameters to pick from since "worst" is open to interpretation. Primo Carnera is a HOF worthy fighter.
I would make a case for the "weakest" heavy champs ever, two heavies that traded belts in a 2 fight series where a washerwoman armed with a featherduster might have been able to step in as a substitute with a decent chance for the win.
That would be the misbegotten Leon/Ali series. The so called "Golden Era" certainly fizzled and stamped out permanently with that infamous classic. Poor Leon as it turned out could barely step into the ring without falling over, and Ali more toothless than Leon by then.Last edited by LondonRingRules; 11-02-2008, 05:52 PM.Comment

For the record: My screenname was quoted to your response, but those were not my words. Im sure you know this LPR, but I just want it to be clear.

Yeah, overall Leon the worst ever. Figure at his best every champ in his worst title fight save Ali would breeze through him. Gotta like Leon though. Every toothless dog deserves a day like Leon had.Comment
