"They" are called the general public, and if you want there to continue to be big events in boxing like this potentially massive showdown, you better hope hoards and hoards of these clueless mother****ers come out to watch the fight.
It's a good thing.
I hate to break it to you guys, but the reason HBO spends millions doing pre-fight promotional tours and making those pretty 24/7 episodes is not to hype you up...but instead those activites are invested in so heavily in an effort to get the casual fight fan, and even the non-fight fan to tune in on fight night. HBO already knows the hardcore boxing community is going to watch the fight no matter what. Capturing the casual fan's attention even if it's only for 2-3 big fights a year is going to be the key to success for the sport. The "bandwagon" is very important, even though the hardcore fans might resent them for being "fake fans".
Oh please Pac fought for the Title of 150? without ever even reaching 145 lbs! Pac shouldn't even have that title, he'll most likely fight Cotto at 154 while pac wont even leave 147 lbs onwards. And still get the fight. :smh:
The weight limit is a ceiling not a floor...this makes no sense.
Anyways, if the boxing gods would cooperate, ideally we would see Pac-Mayweather in May, with Cotto vs Martinez in June... winners can fight at a catchweight. Imagine if Pac and Cotto win those fights (truthfully, both are underdogs)...but Arum would have a hardon the size of that outdoor stadium he loves so much. :baby:
I don't like Cotto coming back down in weight...he has looked good at 154.
If Cotto and Pac do fight, I don't think it will be as exciting as the first fight...Cotto tried to stand and trade with Pacquiao and look how that turned out. Especially after seeing the Marquez clinic, as well as his own success in the first round of their first fight where Cotto was essentially a counterpuncher....I expect Cotto would fight a much more careful fight, and this style might frustrate Manny more than he expects, but I do see Pac winning either way by wearing him down, and luring Cotto to engage (the Filipino rope-a-dope thing he does.. :boxing:)
