I hate to break it to you guys, but the reason HBO spends millions doing pre-fight promotional tours and making those pretty 24/7 episodes is not to hype you up...but instead those activites are invested in so heavily in an effort to get the casual fight fan, and even the non-fight fan to tune in on fight night. HBO already knows the hardcore boxing community is going to watch the fight no matter what. Capturing the casual fan's attention even if it's only for 2-3 big fights a year is going to be the key to success for the sport. The "bandwagon" is very important, even though the hardcore fans might resent them for being "fake fans".

I think boxing needs more bandwagon fans... thought processes like this is the reason boxing has been dying lately.. because you want to know something? When I first got into boxing, i only cared about mike tyson, only watched his fights etc... but because of that, I learned more about boxing, and now I love everything about it. And just like you I never miss fights on TV and buy EVERY ppv... I agree. At the very least, those mainstream fans are willing to put up some of their hard earned money to support a sport that many assume is dying. Out of that huge crowd, many will be inspired by boxing enough to help elevate it in whatever shape or form.

im a true boxing fan, i love the sport and not just as a spectator either. im the type of person who never misses a fight, and i might even rewatch old fights on youtube at 3am and put it on pause/rewind it x100 and try to mimick the fighters. and its for that reason that i would HATE if the fight between mayweather and pacquiao took place at yankee stadium.. why you ask? its because people in general love to jump aboard bandwagons when its a big event. monkey see, monkey do. and since this event will be HUGE, its obvious that there will be thousands upon thousands of clueless mother****ers buying tickets to the event simply because its a HUGE event.... you know who im talking about...those fake boxing "fans" ...the type of people who are suddenly "fans" when a mega fight with de la hoya or mayweather is happening, but are nowhere to be seen when friday night fights is on, or some european fight is on... these are the type of dumb new york mother****ers that will pack the stadium, post about it on facebook, and yap about how much they love boxing. but the truth is theyre only watching it because they want to feel like theyre apart of a big event. 90% of them will just want to see "the little asian guy beat the shit out of the loud mouth black guy" ...they probably wont even know their names LOL ask yourself this question...if this fight took place in europe, or in vegas, will these average joes who are suddenly "big boxing fans" be willing to buy a plane ticket and fly to the fight? EXACTLY what i thought...half the people who would attend yankee stadium would only go because its relatively close. if the fight was in vegas though, or in another country, their true colors would show and they would say "**** it". i dont want to be in a stadium filled with these fake mother****ers. because i know that during the fight they will be saying things like "booo mayweather, stop running you pussy!" while chugging their beer and hollering other stupid/racist things (to both fighters). the sad thing is that the morning after they will go back to their regular lives and you wont hear a word of boxing out of their mouth. theyll go back to watching american idol and football. it sickens me thinking about how if this fight took place at yankee stadium, tickets to this fight will probably sell out to these idiotic pests and a true fan like myself will probably get stuck with nose bleed seats. why should these dumb mother****ers with their affliction/tapout shirts have front row seats for their hooligan friends and girlfriends while a die hard fight fan like myself gets stuck with the shit seats? i say **** YANKEE STADIUM...make this fight europe or vegas I know how you feel regarding bandwagon fans vs casual fans vs hardcore fans. One things for certain, it'll suck driving around that area of the Bronx with the amount of cars that will be trying to pile in to catch the show. Most will be leaving their cars at home and riding the subway and the mass crowds will be a spectacle to behold. Too bad the high taxes there won't permit it to happen unless they can cut a hell of a deal.

"They" are called the general public, and if you want there to continue to be big events in boxing like this potentially massive showdown, you better hope hoards and hoards of these clueless mother****ers come out to watch the fight. It's a good thing.
