Well, think about it. When Rahman is fired up he burns out early. He has a wide right hand that makes up most of his arsenal, and he's got a shaky chin. I don't care whether Toney can punch at heavyweight, or not, if he hits Rahman enough (which he will), then he hurts him, if he hurts him (which is also likely) he stops him. That's not even boxing expertise, that's just simple math.
Toney. Toney, Toney, Toney. When Toney was at middleweight, and Hopkins was his mandatory, Hopkins was little more than a righ hand crazy kid. In other words: Toney's dream opponent. The fight at a catchweight that was being discussed a year or so ago would have been much more competitive.
Funny feller. Toney can't even punch his way out of his KFC bucket. Now if Rahman does manage to land his right hand, I guarantee you he'll punch Toney through that KFC bucket!
Care to put your money where your mouth is? Or is this all hater drivel?
Quit sippin on the Haterade and give a great HALL OF FAME bound fighter his due.
I thought he fought terribly tonight, and won due to the fact Harrison was shit scared of him. As Barry said "he fought only when it was absolutely necessary".
I have to agree.
Lewis has 42 wins against some of the strongest punchers and best heavies of his era.
Lessee, Toney has 3 wins against nobody any good or who can punch.
Hmmmm, 42 Vs 3. Dunno, a 1st grader ought to figure out that one. "Hey, kid, do you want 42 dollars or 3 dollars, take your pick!"
And that proves his chin how? I believe you're trying to say that he was able to keep his chin hidden against the strongest punchers and best heavies of his era. That's admirable but different from having a good chin.
Rahman has won on a lucky punch before (Lewis fight), I still give it to Rahman, depends if Toney has been on the juice again (ps if there are lawyers reading, I mean Jamba Juice)
...he won on a lucky punch against an opponent who's chin is weaker than Toney's.
Don't forget, Toney's beaten both common opponents they have, whereas Rahman has lost to both of them. And don't try any bullshit about the official decision in the Ruiz fight being a No-Decision. He beat him, regardless of what the books say.
I have heard that he will fight soon. He's returing to prime form. Here's the question will he win any title fights?
Not after he runs into the Green Machine.
Can you honestly say any of the PPV's have been worth it this year? HBO suck-holed us into buying Wright - Trinidad, Taylor - Hopkins I and II, Jones - Tarver, Gatti - Mayweather. With the exception of Morales - Pacqaiou the fights have been barn burners.
We are the ones to blame as we keep on buying these sub-par events.
Right on man. That's why Morales-Pacquiao was the only ppv I bought this year.
Amendment: I just remembered that I think I bought the Trinidad-Wright ppv. Sue me, I really thought they could match up well. Turns out I was wrong.
I mean I can count on 2 hands how many times he hit the 40 year old man flush in both fight combined. He is a much better athlete than boxer by far. Hops is not close to being fast yet land more flushes than a lucky poker player. Hops has no power yet Taylor could only see out of 1 eye after the fight. Not to take anythng away from Hops but he isnt the same Hops that beat Tito. I think Taylor needs atleast 4 fights to even have a chance against Winky. And who knows if he will beat the same after Hops landed so many power shots to Taylors noggin. He let an old man get off first in exchanges.. Thats pretty sad. Lacy kills him, Winkys makes him look stupid. Sturm would beat him too but get robbed.
Oh wow. Where do I begin?
I think rather than waste my time debunking everything you've said point by point, it would be more economical to simply say this: Hopkins is a top-ten great. Enough said.
Remember this, too, the Hopkins that Taylor beat was the same fighter who beat De la Hoya, a top-fifteen pound for pounder at the time, and Howard Eastman, who was ranked number 1 at middleweight. So stop with the bullshit. Barely beating an all-time great is still beating an all-time great.
Wright-Soliman...
For real..
Is anyone actually excited?
I sure ain't..
I love Winky...
but this fight has BORING written all over it !
Winky has a virus or something right now...
So maybe it will affect him and there will be more competitive?
Nah, Soliman makes every fight fun. Seriously, he's just plain fun to watch. He works, and works, and throws punches, and then punches some more. It's great to see him.
Though I predict an easy decision for Winky...Soliman could provide a lot of difficulties for Wright and it would be great for Aussie boxing if he could pull it off.
It would be great for boxing in general. Soliman has a much more dynamic style, is a much more charismatic interviewee, he's just a better bet for boxing all around. I would looove to see "The King" win this Saturday.
Showtime is definitely the way to go. They have had more competitive fights for the basic subscription fee than HBO did over the past year. Nowadays any fight that looks like it might go more than a round or 2 is instantly on Pay-per-view, as far as HBO is concerned, anyway.
was looking on boxrec and winky's win over solimon was a ibf eliminator AND a WBC one, which fight should winky take?
He should hold out for the big-money against Taylor. The earliest that'll come is next summer. Abraham is gonna take an easy defense first, and so is Taylor.
So, do you guys think this is a better win than the one against Eastman?
My opinion is that a controversial TKO against a guy most considered underrated and avoided, a guy who hadn't lost in four years is better than a decision against a guy who was coming off a loss. How bout you?
None. Ever. No single fight is worth fifty bucks. Tell you what, I would buy almost every ppv around if it were only 20$ a pop. The Hatton fight was worth that much.
well, if Abraham expects a shot at Wright, he better get his ass outta Germany for once.
Well, I don't know why Abraham would expect a shot at Wright since Wright holds exactly no one's titles, but I do believe Wright is Abraham's mandatory.
What is controversial about a ref stopping a fight when a guy is out on his feet and he keeps getting hit, and when the ref does stop it said fighter falls halfway across the ring? You're right the ref should have let him kill him.
Dear Lord you're a prick. I dunno who it was who left his dildo in your fuckin ass, but you gotta lose it. Your constant haranguing discredits yourself. I didn't see the fight. I was working off this guy's round by round. He said it was fast. I say your a cumguzzling prick. Like it?
These 2 will most likley fight for the ibf title, the fight could be in germany as well, who do u take the statue with a jab winky? or the skilless mauler that is arthur
Do you mean after the vacancy is filled on the tenth?
Hard to say for me. I think their legacies have been pretty much etched in stone before their two recent defeats.
Right, that's what I believe too, except that I think at the time of Hopkins' losses, most people figured he was at the end of his career, while that wasn't the case with Jones.
I sure as hell am. Ruiz maybe be boring, but boxing fans must respect him for taking on Valluev.

From Fightnews
No. No, we really don't. I chose to tip my hat to him when he took on James Toney. Taking on some fuckin giant robot because no one will buy tickets when he fights at home is just desperation. Ruiz is boring and talentless, and incidentally, so is the Behemoth from Belarus or wherever the hell Valuev was born.
He beat Sturm, bud.
Sturm should get the shot if he's healthy and ready to go.
It's possible. I'm just pretty sure you're wrong. I could have sworn that Sturm at least won silver.
In any case, if that is the case, who did Taylor lose to?
Spinks would be overmatched.
Personally, I want to see Spinks take on Margarito at 147 or 154.
Yeh. I said he wouldn't be competitive. I said he deserved to lose if he wasn't gonna fight. But Margarito at 147 could be interesting. I love Margarito. Also, I pick Margarito.
If the Sturm fight doesn't come off, I'm hoping he takes on Spinks. Not cuz I think it will be at all competitive, just because I would like to see Spinks finished off if he isn't gonna fight.
Jermain Taylor fighting Bernard Hopkins twice in a row, then Felix Sturm in April and Winky Wright next summer would be very good for the sport. The only problem is, if he beats both Sturm and Wright, he has pretty much cleaned out the middleweight division.
Personally I'd like to see him fight the winner of the Ikekke-Abraham fight in April to unify all the belts, then take on Winky. I also wouldnn't mind seeing an Ouma-Taylor fight.
If Ikeke wins, then ok, yeh, he should go straight for Taylor, after all, he's already made his case and everyone knows he's a tough, underrated contender.
On the other hand, if Arthur wins, and a Taylor-Sturm fight doesn't come off, I think Arthur should set up a fight with Sebastian Sylvester, and Sturm should get back on the horse against Maselino Masoe. If they both win you have a natural, all-Germany, European box-office smash hit. Plus, the winner is a perfect number one contender, and Taylor gets to test himself against another young, strong middlewight sometime in the fall or winter of next year.
That's in a perfect world, though. Not the one we live in.
Let me get this straight, Toney leaps ahead of Maskaev by doing nothing and he demands half.
Let me get this straight. You believe that Maskaev is any more deserving than Toney?
I have the fight. Jermain won.
Taylor lost to Yermakhan Ibraimov of Kazakstan
Well, I'm impressed.
That you could name an amateur from Kazahkstan. I'm obviously out of my depth.
