I had an argument today with a friend that believes that boxers cannot hold their own in a street fight. He believes that other combat sports such as karate, olympic wrestling, judo, mixed martial arts are highly superior compared to boxing and that boxers outside the ring cannot handle their own when they are not in the ring. He pretty much believes that boxing is the lowest form of fighting technique. I got really aggrevated by this and told him that boxing is very disciplined and that he wouldn't stand a chance against a boxer in the ring or outside the ring. He then responded by saying something dumb like "well boxers only punch, so in a street fight, I'll kick him in his knee and tackle him." By a response like that, I was really mad and also dissapointed thinking that a lot of non-boxing fans feel this way?
Do any of your friends who are not boxing fans or boxing fans think that boxing is the lowest form of fighting technique?
hahaha. just wait till you see him the next day after getting in a fight with a boxer, his two eyes will be black and he'll have a broken nose...
its not like fighting a heavy bag, he's not just gonna wait there for you to kick him and take him to the ground. Boxers have fast reaction times from sparring to things like that and I'm sure somebody who has such a vague plan he'll probably have his hands low get hit in the chin.
Although, to be honest, you have to realize, boxing is a sport. It takes technique, strategy, and it has rules. Streetfighting has no rules.
Any boxer can streetfight, but not any streetfighter can box.
Even when you look at savage guys like Mike Tyson, and you think he can beat up anyone in a streetfight, his fighting was all about technique even though he makes it look like hes just killing the other guy with random punches to someone who doesn't understand boxing. People like that have never stepped inside a ring, never had the loss of energy from their arms so that they can't even keep their hands up to protect their faces, never lost their legs...and above all, never been hit in the face.So they don't understand.
And finally, Bruce Lee, probably respected as the greatest martial artist ever, his "style" jeet kune which is essentially streetfighting, takes most of its punches from boxing and Bruce Lee respected boxing a lot.
so next time you see your friend just quote everything i said and he'll be like :wtf: lol
Unifying belts is a good one cause there should only be one champion per weight class..
and also, more top fights, like for example why was Ali's era good? cause of all the good fights in the era...ali-liston, ali-frazier, ali-foreman, etc.
fighters these days just wanna get paid instead of fighting all the top names out there...ducking opponents that could make for good fights but prob wouldnt make as much money..lol
My favorite part was how he had literally nothing to his name and had to sleep in an alley and made a fire....but he had the desire to become a champion and that's all he needed really.
I guess it was his hardships that I can relate to, more than anything else.
He was donating blood to make money....and selling fortune telling books or something...
and when he lost a fight, it wasn't enough that he lost but he also had to get beaten by his trainer with a baseball bat too...
I'll never forget his story, and I hope it inspires others the way it inspires me.
He was nothing special as a fighter, because he didn't live long enough to become something special as a fighter...There were times in the Ray Mancini fight where ray was considering throwing in the towel, had he done that, who knows how great kim could have become? Because his persistence was his best quality afterall..
I remember I read his story when I wanted to see the movie about his life, couldn't find it though online...i usually watch korean movies with subtitles online cause there are alot of good ones and i read about that movie..

there's the wikipedia page.
great highlight though.
man I just watched the movie and his story is really sad but inspiring.
he died way too young...but I think his story and legacy will always be remembered.

you gotta love it!!
he's a legend man. if cus d'amato didn't die when he did, mike had potential to be the greatest heavyweight ever. he must feel like he has no motivation to get in shape anymore.
I'm not even sure Rocky really beat Apollo, I'm still a bit iffy on that double knockdown.
Besides Apollo was beating the shit out of Rocky in sparring for Clubber.
Apollo never would have lost to Clubber Lang. Apollo UD.
he's hookin', he's hookin', he's hookin'!
to be honest, I'd just like to see the fight happen. who wins or loses will come naturally.
for me, I think Pacquaio will win...but who knows...mayweathers still great too.
i like the pacquiao morales one...here are some i like too..

I'm pretty sure the only reason Haye is moving up to heavyweight is for the title and if thats his goal why would he fight the heavyweight champion if the titles not on the line...
But that's just what I'm guessing...lol
