im sittin here thinking..... what missing today that they had back in the day...... back when boxers like Ali, Frazier, Foreman werent just "boxers" they were sports figures!
whats missing today that would make the sport transcend back to were it rightfully should be?
are we missing talent? better fights? entertainers? what?!
chop it up...
EDIT: keep the ideas coming.. imma make this into a poll as to which one everyone feels would help put the sport back in the mainstream
The many different sanctioning bodies are here to stay... and so are their alphabet titles. The best we can do to fight them is to ONLY care about the lineal champ, which for the most part (but not always) is the holder of the Ring Belt.
Now I HATE Golden Boy and I expect Ring Magazine to become biased as a result of their owning it now, but the closest we'll have to ONE champion in each weight class is to recognize the Ring Champion and pass everyone else off as the dreaded "Paper Champion".
We need to get rid of 2 or 3 of the 4 existing Alphabet belts.
It be nice to have just 1 Champ (or at least 2) per division.
Take away some of the divisions like minimumweight, Cruiserweight and maybe lightflyweight. Or maybe take away ALL weight divisions with Super or Junior on it.
yea.. i agree with the 1st part..... i wouldnt mind seeing some weight classes eliminated but honestly weight classes like minimumweight and lightflyweight dont even get any play from us hardcore boxing fans.... them guys need to move up or something cuz i've never even seen a fight at that weight in my life
Here are some things I believe boxing needs:
1. ONE clear champ in each division
2. Go back to the original eight divisions (I personally think there are too many divs.)
3. Better matchups
4. More fights on free tv
Unified Champions (clear champion of each division)
i think boxing needs that as well as network television.. ABC, NBC, all that
bring it back to the forefront
Unified Champions (clear champion of each division)
100% free webcam site! | Awesome chicks and it is absolutely free! | Watch free live sex cam - easy as 1-2-3
network tv...
i think thats the biggest thing, better match ups and network tv..... so many promoters and networks (HBO & Showtime) are so concerned with money that network tvs being over looked... i wonder how much money could be made if a fight were on ABC, NBC, and such
Fighter who arent afraid to lose. Fight the best fighters and test themselves instead of easy money. I would rather see the best fight the best the belts dont even matter all that much true fans know who the best is and if there is a doubt have the best two fight each other we dont need belts to tell us who the best is.
I agree, honestly. A singular boxing commission would be tight.
Do you know how ****ing cool it would be to have a St. Pierre vs. Penn matchup in boxing?
The only lightweight champion moving up to fight the only welterweight champion.
All the belts look the same.
God, the way UFC run is just tight. Boxing should be taking notes.
that would be dope.... one commission = one champion to each division
things would be a lot better
What is boxing boxing missing?

Agreed, but I also think the casual fan would be more interested in belt if there was the welterweight world champion, rather than the IBF or WBA welterweight world champion.
yea most of em dont even know what the fuck the WBC or the WBA even are.... let alone which one is the most respected
bottom line their all out to make money at the end of the day... thats it, they could care less about whos the best or who's the rightful champion... its all about fees with them
I voted fighters who care more about legacy, which to me also translates to better matchups. Fans nowadays are spendin way too much time bitchin about paydays imo, as if we're gonna see 1 cent of the revenue from the fights. The numerous belts suck, but a fighter can clearly establish himself as king of his division without unifyin as long as he consistently outperforms the other titlists in his wins. Greedy promoters, multiple divisions, stupid judges, and PPVs are part of the sport and just ain't goin anywhere anytime soon. Characters can be fun, but the real entertainment is in the fights, not the words. :boxing:
great post.... totally agree :fing02:
no disrespect, but only harcore fans like us are concerned with belts. casual fans just want to see a good fight and unfortunately, boxing's success depends on their willingness to watch.

Idiot fake Floyd fan fraud coward ducker gayweather...

Even Viva is missed. :(
We don't need businessman cowards in the sport, he needs to taste true welterweight power of the Tijuana Tornado.
LOL
how do u know boxing is popular, when casual fans are enjoying boxing and talking about it. So what is boxing missing. 2 words Mike Tyson
he just captured so much peoples attention and also the media loved to talk about him. But boxing has klitsko and even die hard fans dont care lol
