Damn man,it's his opinion, why are ya'll taking so much stock in it? This isn't the first time he has said this. I think the sad part is you actually took time to put stats together...who cares?
No one is taking stock in anything. I understand his opinion. I am just putting out the stats.
And Robinson was not undefeated in the Amateurs he lost to Billy Graham and Patsy Pesca under his given name, Walker Smith Jr.
You are correct, this was missed. But he still wins the category.
If anything your graphs make a stronger case for him (certainly stronger than I would have guessed). I'd imagine there was another fighter on these graphs but you didn't like seeing his metrics next to the others and conveniently left him off.
This list is not that thorough because I was bored, but not THAT bored. I wasn't about to list 20 fighters. And Mayweather only said he is better than those two. It is widely believed that Ali and Sugar Ray are TBE, and they are consistently placed in the top 5 of most peoples lists. I put Joe Louis and Rocky because many people make an argument for them as well, especially the older generations. And I like Mike Tyson.
That's a defense mechanism for those that do not like either, are threatened by their greatness and do not want to acknowledge it. It's the same way diehard Jordan fans got when Kobe got his 5th ring.
It's also the way Floyd and some of his fans reacted when people said Manny was better than him.
I don't understand why people react this way. If you don't feel he is, ok.
No need to dismiss it. Pound-for-pound rating were created for a reason. It's part of the fun. Boxers want to be legends, which is partly why they do it eventually. Whats wrong with pointing out the stats? That's all we have really, and they do a pretty good job.
those amateur stats shouldn't be there. then floyd and tyson will scramble for last place.
Floyd and Tyson are actually 2nd and 3rd respectively in that category
Ok???? What does this even prove? Robinson had more fights..commonsense..floyds not a ko puncher=means nothing, amateur wins=means nothing.........title defenses would be hard to measure since Floyd moved up 5 divisions while Ali stayed in 1
That's why it's an overall comparison, not just based on one stat. And a title defense is a title defense, whether it's in only 1 division or not.
You've got to take into account there being 4 major titles in each division now and twice as many divisions.
I only counted fights as a single championship. It's unfair to knock an older fighter just because there are way more sanctioning bodies today.
My point was it's easier to be a champion now with 68 world titles (not counting super champions) available in boxing compared to 8 back in the day.
This is true, but I did not take into account all 68 of course. Southwest champion of the east common district was not taken into account, lol.
On an even playing field and in their primes, I think Tyson would K.O. Ali. Ali would be the better overall fighter, but Tysons power and style would just be too much for Ali. Tyson was essentially a stronger, younger, and more agile version of George Foreman. And lets face it, what happened with Foreman was circumstantial. Foreman was killing Ali the whole fight but got tired. Everyone knows this.
And the stats he listed actually shed light on Floyds opinion as having merit
I don't see how that's possible when he is outnumbered in almost every category except win percentage. And his career is not over.
those amateur stats shouldn't be there. then floyd and tyson will scramble for last place.
In my opinion, a boxers career counts from when he first puts the gloves on. Just my opinion.
No im debating
Not really,of course Robinson and Ali had more fights, but look at champions fought and defenses and winning percentages..he has a good case
Yeah, he does. But he seemed to focus more on Ali. And Ali clearly is a better pound-for-pound fighter.
i respect that. i just feel that amstats isn't really a factor when we talk of greatness in professional boxing. marciano isn't rated very highly because of his almost non-existent amateur career, but he is.
Also a good point. Which is why I also included amateur win percentage to try to balance it out. Rocky went 9-4 in his amateur fights. He wasn't invincible his entire career. That is why I included those stats.
It would be pretty neat because I am Mexican and i can identify with Canelo. But honestly, I truly believe GGG is the guy who is going to take the torch. He is just a likable guy and people in boxing get excited about his fights.
If Klitschko was an American, he would probably be as big as Floyd right now. I guess he might be in Russia. But it kind of sucks how unknown he is outside of boxing circles.
