What not for these two guys? Both are arguably top 5 MWs but the gap between them and GGG/Cotto just looks vast.
I know Lee is likely to defend his WBO title against BJS and Quillin...well apart from Haymon, does he have any bargaining chips left? He will have to wait for a rematch with Lee/BJS if it ever happens. Not to mention that a fight with GGG/Cotto looks more unlikely than ever before.
Lee probably ends up in the better position, there's that BJS fight and win or lose a money domestic clash with Macklin and probably fights with guys like Eubank Jr or Murray to wind down his career.
What do you guys think?
I can see Golovkin and HBO going hard for a Lee unification fight after Monroe. Cotto vs Canelo seems likely, not a whole lot of options so might as well unify.
Quillin - depends on what he plans to do here about his weight. This was the second time missing weight so it appears making 160 is getting very difficult for him, possibly explains why he looked so terrible against a guy he should have finished easy. If he moves to 168, the obvious big fight for him is Chavez being they're both with Haymon. But I doubt that happens next. They'll probably get some REAL soft touch for Junior's next fight. Maybe Quillin fights some low level 168 pounder, idk.
All depends on BJS.
They probably won't pay him the same step aside as Haymon and I doubt BJS would want to fight GGG if he had the WBO belt.
I lol'd at the bold and underlined. Cotto has talent, but those middleweights, Quillen and Lee included have easily a 50% chance of beating Cotto. Cotto's 5/7 frame vs these dudes standing 6 foot tall and middleweight power could spell disaster for Cotto anywhere inside of 12 rounds.
What are you laughing at? I said Cotto/GGG is unlikely....or did you read it wrong?
Quillin kind of has to make the middleweight limit first I think before he becomes supreme.
But then again weight limits are just suggestions for PBC fighters.
lol true that
I'd like to see Quillin/Chavez at 168, but I guess Chavez might fight Martin Murray in Mexico first (regardless how well Murray does, Chavez gets the decision).
When did he say that? Did he say if that offer would kick in prior to the Saunders fight or after? I see Frank's made some comments that perhaps Saunders might go with a Eubank rematch over the Lee fight, but I don't see BJS agreeing to that.
chavez jr cant make 168, even thats a stretch for him.
Quillin is never fighting GGG - heh, everybody knows that.
I doubt Cotto would ever fight Quillin either.
Lee would fight anybody, and he's guaranteed good paydays for his next 3-5 fights regardless if he loses the title against Saunders. Him and Macklin have a guaranteed big-seller.
And I think Cotto believes he sees somethig in Lee that makes him an easy opponent (tall body; open ribcage for left hooks?) so that makes Lee a good candidate to get that money fight.
Lee is set... HBO loves him.
Rightfully so, he is in fun fights and if he does happen to retain following BJS and then go onto lose to GGG, he can still have that big Macklin bout.
Cotto isnt going to fight GGG anytime soon. Lee said he'd fight GGG, Quillin is going to move up to 168lbs where him and Chavez Jr can fight.
see above

Well they better hope BJS takes the Eubank Jr rematch over Lee, which I don't think he will

I don't know what happens but damn do these two guys suck fat dicks. What a crap fight. Lee is like a white Adonis Stevenson sitting there waiting to land that one shot all night and Quillen likes to engage less then anyone I've ever seen. For two guys standing in front of each other all night you'd expect a little more action.
And LOL at Marv Albert saying they both landed 58 power punches through 10 rounds and that it was a Huge amount lol..yeah 5 power punches a round is unheard of Marvin..
There were definitely (Lennox) moments of excitement and back-n-forth action, but, there were also a lot of moments where both fighters were posturing and inactive. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.

When did Frank say that?
I made a thread, last week I think, about that. Loeffler trying to put together a package to HBO for 3 fights worth 1.5-2 million I think? No way just for GGG fight.
Tom Loeffler said they were putting together a financial package so that Lee might fight Golovkin next.
He'd still have to make it past Saunders though

Lee defends his title against Billy Joe Saunders next.
Quillin? Who cares anymore. I mean the guy vacate a title because he was afraid to fight Korobov and gave some BS excuse, They when he did another title shot (which he didn't deserve) The fat bastard couldn't make weight.

There is no way it would happen warren wouldn't allow it bjs isn't going to step aside from a 50-50 fight so he can become mandatory for a beating at the hands of golovkin.
Tom Loeffler said they were putting together a financial package so that Lee might fight Golovkin next.
oh damn, Lee is getting killed....but it'll be a fun unification.
No unification with Cotto because Cotto is fighting his VOLUNTARY and immediately after that he has his mandatory against Golovkin. As Cotto will either vacate, be stripped for fighting someone else or get destroyed by GGG, he will not have any title to unify in a fight with Lee.
Cotto isn't fighting GGG, he'll be made diamond champion or something and be involved in a "unification" some how.
Who has Saunders beaten that was an actual top guy at middleweight.. There is no way he has legitamately become #1 contender. Just because boxing is filled with crap mandatories doesn't mean it's right, and we should continue doing it..
Look at the long list of mandatory challengers across all boxing divisions, who do they actually beat? This isn't the first time, you're acting like you don't watch boxing or know what's happening.
Any way, Jr is ranked number one by the WBA and if I'm not mistaken was ranked pretty high by the WBO before he decided to go the WBA route. But then you have no hopers like Stevens getting ranked by organisations so it's not exactly an encouraging sign.
All I know is that Quillin is looking at the big picture.
lol what's that?
LOOL Yes, that prestigious 162.6 title
Why no unification with Cotto? There's a great chance if the Canelo fight is not made after the mandatory...and who is to say the Canelo fight won't be a MW contest? I think Cotto wins both those and will have to defend his title again...if Lee retains and if Cotto runs from GGG again then there is no way that fight doesn't happen.
I'm a big Martinez fan, also a pretty big Cotto fan and I didn't enjoy that win but say what you like, he has THE belt in the division and that makes him a top 2 MW.
BJS has done what any other mandatory has done in history, fight through the dregs of the division and get himself shot. He deserves as much as any mandatory in recent boxing history. Cost hey all work their way up like this.
Now, in terms of the rematch, I really wouldn't want to see that mess again and I'd prefer Quillin tried fighting a few mid level opposition and worked on his stamina.

He will never fight a unification with Cotto. Cotto won't have the title much longer after he gets his voluntary done. He either fights GGG and gets destroyed or vacates. No possibility of his fighting Lee in a unification.

cotto? cotto hasn't had a real fight at 160 yet. sergio "i need major knee surgery" martinez certainly doesn't count. we found out that fight was a farce yet people still pretend it was an amazing win. very puzzling.

I think they should do a rematch immediately.. No offense to Saunders but I don't think he has done enough to be an enforced mandatory imo... Beating jr Eubanks shouldn't make you the mandatory challenger..
I venture to say lee will defend vs Saunders, and quillen will be left out in the cold, and will probably fight once in the next 15 months
