i think tyson really needs to go forth with commentating and possibly training fighters. his welath of knowledge is greatly needed i nthe sport these days. i understand he did commentate for an international site on a recent fight and did quite well.
boxing owes him a lot....
toney by decision.. peter shopuldn't even be in the ring with toney. toney has too much experience to let a bum like peter beat him. toney has probably fought more champions than peter has fights.. peter will be strong and clumsy for about 5-6 rounds and then toney will esily outpoint him..
lennox was a good heavyweight champion, that's it... he did nothing spectacular while he was champion, except have two devestating one punch knockout losses.
i don't think hopkins beats oleg. oleg maybe methodical, but his power will be too much for bernard. berandar doesn't not have the blinding speed and power that roy jones did and that's what beats a heavyweight like oleg. bernard couldn't hurt a "shot" tarver, how does he expect to get respect from oleg???. oleg would make it a rough and tumble fight and not a scary fight, like ruiz did with jones.. bernard misses the limelight and is really pushing it. i hope this fight doesn't happen because hopkins legacy is secure. why tarnish your legacy with a loss to a heavyweight, then he will never be able to retire.
Pacman v Mayweather/Hatton
Mayweather definitely would be more of a career defining fight for the Pacman. Since Hatton was already KO'ed by Floyd; that seems to be the best option. Mayweather would offset Manny's aggressiveness with superb counter punching. Mayweather's quickness and defensive prowess would be the difference in this fight. Floyd does well against fighters that are smaller than him; Hatton is smaller than him which is why he was able to KO him. Manny has proven to have a chin, so I don't forsee a stoppage.
If he does opt for Hatton, he should win that fight. Hatton is becoming a better boxer but I think Manny would pick him apart. He just doesn't have the ability of say a Marquez, a agressive boxer-puncher; Hatton just doesn't have that adaptability. He reminds me of Felix Trinadad, one-dimensional, but Trinadad had the fight ending power, Ricky doesn't. Either way Manny makes a boat-load of money. :)
Thoughts
I think Palomino had it right; the weight played a major role in this fight and I know Oscar is kicking himself for agreeing to make it. Oscar at 154 is a much better fighter. I also goes to show, when you have "yes" men around you it doesn't benefit you at all. His team knew what the weight loss was doing to him camp, but nobody wants to question the boss. I have been in and around boxing for 26 years and had I been with Oscar, I would have totally disagreed with him taking the fight. And this special diet crap!!! What was that all about ??? Oscar has been in the game long enough to know that drastic changes at this point in his career are not good. You would think that at the "elite" level there would be more smarts. But then again, look at the economy, it has been ruined by people at the "elite" level not laymen such as myself. :) I guess it is just like going to work everyday and disagreeing with the bs your boss wants you to do. You suck it up because you need a paycheck. And I here Oscar pays well. :)
margarito beats sugar shane.. margarito will overwhelm shane with his volume punching. shane has slowed down alot.. let's see paul williams v margarito again. cotto took a beating over the course of 11 rounds and i don't look for him to recover anytime soon. cotto needs some tune-ups with lesser fighters before he thinks about getting in the ring with margarito again. i hear talk about the cintron for cotto, i think that is better for him at this stage.
floyd
when pacman beats oscar, he stands to make a gazillion dollars fighting floyd mayweather or hatton. pacman stands a better chance against hatton, mayweather wouild beat him hands down..
the problem with these veteran fighters is that very seldom will they fight a young guy for 'short' money; dawson represents short money. i think they all learned a lesson when hopkins lost twice to taylor. now if calzaghe can make some serious money fighting dawson then he might consider. if i was calzaghe, i would only fight dawson in the uk. there he stands to make good money...
Mosley
This scandal will definitely affect the fight with margarito. fighters need 100 percent focus while in training, this is major considering he could get jail time, if it is proven he knowingly took steroids. my question is: where on earth can you get vitamins for over a thousand dollars???? i complain about paying 50 dollars for vitamins at gnc. i am tired of these athletes claiming ignorance when it comes to performance enhancing drugs. if you cnat get it over the counter something should give you a heads up. im sorry, im not buying his claims that he didn't know....
pacman
if pacman comes in over 143 the fight won't last long. i still can't figure out why fighters bulk up to their opponents, when there speed is the biggest asset they have. he will negate his speed if he comes in too heavy. additional weight conflicts with your rythym and coordination i.e pavlik... my opinion he should come at 140-142.
I gotta go with Roy..
who the hell thinks roy jones is going to win this fight?
Roy has a style that can make any fighter look bad. And since he doesn't have to worry about Calzaghe hurting him, he will take more chances. Jones will definitely land the crisper punches and Calzaghe will try to befuddle him with volume punching. Calzaghe looked ordinary against Hopkins, who doesn't have near the speed or power of Jones. Again the style will present major problems for Calzaghe.. Jones by split decision
roy
there are no excuses when you step into the ring. i fought 119 amatuer fights and lost 21, never had an excuse. if you don't feel right don't step in the ring, its that simple. with that said, roy did look flat in the fight. its like waking up in the morning and knowing you are going to have a bad day; he jsut had a bad day at the office; in boxing that is very costly.
hatton
hatton is a bum !!!! floyd exposed him for what he is, one dimensional fighter.. oscar will destroy him if they ever fought. hatton needs to stay with the junior welters. after his fight with manny, oscar will never fight at welterweight again. believe that..!!!!!
oscar and floyd
both fighters have fought everybody out there in 5 divisions. there aren't many fighters left for either to fight. margarito and williams are the last two left. cotto was left out because I have to see how he reacts to his lost before he can be considered in the mix; he is damaged goods. now Oscar is picking on a little guy in Pacman, but I do pick Pacman to defeat him by decision. This fight almost reminds me of duran and leonard I. duran came up from lightweight to challenge leonard at welterweight. the samller man won that fight. however he was one of greatest fighters that ever lived. I think pacman speed and agility is going to give oscar trouble. oscar only chance is to sucker pacman into a "intelligent brawl". I have my money on pacman.
anybody want to bet ?????????????????????
rematach, who cares ?
jones and hopkins are not exciting anymore. they have both become counterpunchers who don't take risk anymore. exciting fights happen when both fighter takes risks. the aggression has gone out of jones and hopkins hans't been an executioner in years. jones should have stopped trinidad. the same goes for hopkins with pavlik.
they are too smart veterans making good money off their names and what they used to be; you can't hate them for that.
hopkins v pavlik
the fact of the matter is this: a cagey veteran beat a young one dimensional fighter.. hopkins picks his opponents well. calzaghe has been his only bad choice these days.. he picked a middleweight to fight him at light heavy. take nothing away from hopkins, to do what he is doing at his age is incredible. after jones defeats calzaghe, i see jones defeating hopkins.
rahman
One thing about Rahman, he can punch.. I always give a puncher a chance with the Klitschkos. Rahman is no Sam Peter, he has a jab and a decent right hand; Lennox Lewis can attest to that. The Klitschkos are vulnerable champs anyway..
Maybe this will be his last opportunity for a title. Besides heavyweights make good money. Hell I would would fight a Heavyweight Champ in a minute.... :)
i agree about the "snooze fest".. taylor will box and lacy will have to come forward. the only thing absent with lacy is a consist jab before he throws his power punches. he doesn't posses the defensive skills of a tyson ( head movement) but to offset that he needs a good jab. surprisingly he has been able to reach the championship level without really using it. that's what happens when punchers fall in love with their power. george foreman, in his second career, taught us the importance of a jab for a power puncher.
as for taylor, he tires late in fights and has never really perefected that right hand, by throwing it much straighter; he tends to get sloppy with his punches. with that said, tayor should cruise to a decision...
Hatton
If Hatton does fight Manny, it would be a good fight with Ricky losing of course. :) Manny looks better and better each time out. Ricky is looking okay these days and his level competition is not on par with Manny. Ricky is a good draw because of his England fan base, without that he is a ordinary fighter. Manny has proven his greatess against the best. Hatton beat Kystzo and that's it. He got knocked out in his biggest fight against Mayweather. His value has definitely dropped after that loss.
sugar shane
this should be sugar shanes final hurrah.. he has provided us with thrilling fights in the past and will go down in this fight like a true warrior. Jones and hopkins should take notes on what a "real warrior" is..... this is a bad match-up for shane, but the money is always good. :)
hatton v pacman
good fight!!! pacman showed good movement in his fight with oscar. I see him out boxing hatton. hatton will apply the pressure and pacman will become the sharpshooter like he was against oscar. hatton has made some improvements but pacman's improvements were tremendous in the fight; that was definitely the best i have seen him look. mayweather stands a better chance of beating pacman. after all, he did knock ricky's ass out.:boxing:
