Personally, I don't think he was garbage but, what do u think ? Someone asked to start a poll so here it is. Now remember this Ali was great, Joe louis was great, theirs a big difference between decent and GREAT. Respect ur opinion either way.
he never fought like a champion. he fought like a boxer, never took chances, always played the safe game, and was the best of the worst era of HW boxing.
i dislike lennox lewis, and i'll never give him the credit he deserves, but thats just me.
Didn't take chances? Have you seen the Briggs or Klitschko fights?
Plus, aside from Tua, Holyfield, Mercer and Tucker, everyone else got KTFO.
Lewis could do both. Get the job done, or make a statement.
Prove me wrong...I'll wait.
Lennox Lewis

um...thats pretty damn good right there. Now please tell me were the 1980's that deep? what about the 50's?,40's?
the only era that competes was the Ali/Foreman/Frazier era.
thus the 2nd best era thing.
wake up Jr

You tell them, joe louis's era was crap. Dempsey's era was full of super middleweights getting title shots.
Ha ha!! A Max Kellerman quote. I have seen it all, now.

The best of his era and great are to different things, and as far as best of his era, what was his era ? When he got beat by mccall? lol or when Rahman stretched him with one punch ?
So what didn't Ali lose to Ken Norton Who lost to Forman and wasn't one off the fights if you didn't see it Norton won. What I am saying is some times you get up for fights more than others.Me myself I never really liked Lewis but you can't blame him for his style aginst a man That ways 230(did Ali).Or him being lazy (see Ali)in his later years.True times change but power don"t.Yes you can clean out your div. without a dought But that make you great? And that last fight on short notice what heavy in our era did that.
Ha ha ha!!! Are you kidding me? That has got to be the funniest thing I have read on here in weeks.
Prove me wrong.
"The 90's were a mini golden era for Heavyweights"- Max Kellerman

actually the 90's are generally considered the 2nd deepest era in the history of the heavyweight division.
and so I guess you dont consider Willy Pep an all time great either cause after all he was a slick boxer aswell
why ever so?

i change my vote. lewis was a great champion. he unified the titles and faced the best of his day. but im still reluctant to say he was a great fighter or one of the greatest HWs ever.
anybody who votes no should be banned.
Olympic Gold Medal
3 Time World Champion
3rd all time in Title defenses behind Louis and Holmes
But yeah he wasn't great at all
^^^What this guy said.
dude tyson would have kicked his ass, stop being modest.
Man, Mike Tyson himself said Joe Louis is the greatest. Tyson and Lewis would whoop a lot of fighters no dought. But just because a fighter fought 100 years ago doesent make them total crap.
Talking bad about Joe Louis doesnt make you look very smart. Yes he may have fought some bums but he beat alot of former champs to. And it wasnt who he beat but how. Every time he had a close fight he would knock the guy out in a rematch. Joe Louis was awesome and without question an ATG.

The fighters that joe louis fought suck ass, his title run is padded with bums.

Joe Fraizer ring a bell? Joe Louis? Floyd Patterson? A lot of Heavyweights have great resumes.

Let's take a look at the other champs
dempsey: 6 title defences
marciano: 6 title defences
patterson: 6 title defences
johnson: 8 title defences, 2 were draws by the way
tunney: 2
jim jeffries: 4
willard, baer, sharkey, braddock, schmeling, carnera: either 0 or 1
ezzard charles: 8
george foreman: 5
joe frazier: 9
walcott: 1
lewis on the other hand has like 15 folks. So before you say he isnt a top 10 heavyweight champ, use ur brain and think for once. The only reason joe louis is #2 is cuz he made 25 title defences, the people he fought werent exactly great fighters.
The heavyweight division has always been weak, its just the way it is. Besides Ali, no other heavyweight really has a tremendous resume.
Joe Fraizer ring a bell? Joe Louis? Floyd Patterson? Evander Holyfield? A lot of Heavyweights have great resumes, Lewis included.. He fought everyone in his era (except Bowe who ducked him like you wouldn't believe) and beat them.
