No it wont because then people will say well he never fought Cotto there is always gonna be a person that they say he ducked
Anyone that knows boxing knows Pwill would be a far far tougher matchup for floyd than Cotto would.
So if Cotto and Mosley never fight Paul Williams will u call them cowards???
Nobody questions Mosley's willingness to fight the best, his resume speaks for itself.
Cotto fights the best in his divisions can't really knock him
Floyd has questions about his willingness to fight the best, which is the point.
But if he beats Paul they'll say hes ducking Cotto and when he beats Cotto they'll say he's ducking Mosley and then when he beats Mosley they'll say he's duckin Margarito..............You cant make everyone happy
I disagree. I harp on floyd's opposition as much as anyone. I question his resume and all time status more than anyone. I would love to see him ktfo by cotto/mosley. I question his willingness and hunger to reach his full potential.
And I can honestly say if he fought williams, regardless of outcome Id never question the man again.
he drew 2 mil. fighting floyd.
he drew only 1 fighting that little midget pacquiao.
it's obvious floyd is a bigger draw.
HBO also dumped a boatload on promoting that fight, not nearly what they put into oscar/pac
Its cool if you feel that way but you can't say Floyd's "scared" and say Cotto and Mosley are not. Mosley turned down a Paul Williams fight.
And Idk about Floyd's opponents being harmless...
Never said floyd was 'scared' or that cotto/mosley were. The point here is that Floyd's already regarded as being on a higher level than cotto/mosley anyway. Enough people feel floyd hasn't fought the best at 140, 147 or 154. He fights Pwill at whatever weight, he shuts those people up.
When has Paul Williams said anything about fighting Floyd
i believe he mentioned it on air to merchant before the margarito fight...something to the effect that he'd love to but he knows floyd n the other ww's dont want too...
I dont think they will and they will always say he's ducking Cotto like its Floyds responsibility to call out Cotto
i don't think it's either guys responsiblity...fans gotta make the demand...and it'll happen
I agree with that you'll never here me say Williams is not the biggest threat.........but i know Cotto fans wont give him credit until he fights him
i dunno man, even a cotto fan would have to respect floyd fighting pwill. sure they'd prob still want floyd to fight cotto no doubt, but there's gotta be some respect given there.
all this hate on floyd.. how he cherry picks opponents and has no heart... scared to lose.. boring to watch because he doesn't take risks in or out of the ring.
i bet all you floyd haters still watch his fights and probably pay to watch him fight.. lol
lol i won't lie i watch floyd's fights. i can appreciate his skill level.
how does that in any way relate to who he chooses to fight & how he doesn't challenge himself to the fullest?
Floyd's been fighting bigger opponents at a disadvantage his entire career. You guys brought Paul Williams into the mix. He has one meaningful win at the weight. Against Margarito. He hasn't done shit at 147.
entire career? really? you might want to check that.
Williams beat Margarito and the rest of the welter's dont really want a piece.
I bring up Williams since he can fight at 147-160.
Floyds fought some bigger opponents, but they were harmless at the time - which is again the point of this thread - williams is the biggest threat out there between 147-160.
Prime Rjj is the greatest fighter ever and you can quote me.
co-sign, ive always said were never gonna see another roy in our lifetime. anyone that's even entertaining this debate please go pop in a couple of roy fights from the mid 90s n it speaks 4 itself. the man simply couldnt be hit, and u couldnt see his punches coming. athletically light years ahead of the competition.
One is one too many.
:fing02::fing02::fing02: I guess SRR, SRL, Duran, Ali, etc etc arent really great fighters since theyve lost. The true ATGs are Calzaghe, Marciano, Floyd & Spadafora. Rock on.
The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.
rjj vs srr
duran vs. floyd
duran vs. whitaker
james toney vs bhop
bhop vs hagler
no. and the fact that you're putting the onus of "carrying the sport" on floyd is very telling
telling of? that he was in a position to bring boxing back? absolutely. With MMA on the rise and boxing in decline I think floyd could have brought the sport back if he wanted, instead he retired. As I said he was in a rare position to carry the sport, but to me it seemed like he didnt care to.
Even in the lower weights he never fought a Joel Casamayor a Kostya Tszyu, Acelino Freitas he never beat a true legend in those divisions. He kept going up in weight and refusing to fight the real best fighters from his weight class.
Co-sign, although the work he did at 130-135 is substantially higher than 140, 147, 154. Even a stevie johnston or paul spadafora.
floyd should make the fights that people want to see
well he's said many times that he wants to make the fights that fans want to see, or the biggest fights for his legacy, but he doesn't which is the reason i think he gets so much hate. I honestly think if he was a humble guy & didnt say those sorts of things people wouldnt care as much about who he fights etc. But when you're talking it up like that and dont deliver, yea its not gonna sit well with fans.
I don't think beating pwill will make anyone immortal... it didn't make quitnana immortal.
Today no, although his regard has risen after the winky domination. He's a throwback that can fight between 147,154,160. He's got a freakish tommy hearns type body. He's improving every fight. Punch output ridiculous.
In two years when floyd finishes up with the other guys, in a certain light you could see it as a leonard hagler type deal less the retirement n all.
Point is sky looks like the limit for pwill so its not out of the question.
floyd doesnt owe this sport anything.... look at what he has done, instead of lookin at what he hasnt.,.... thats the main reson for hate on this forum..... its like whatever he did at 140 down didnt happen. And why? because he didnt fight cotto? gtfo......
what he did at 130 n 135 was great. he's already a hall of famer & a top 50 ATG. What has he done at 140,147,154? Not nearly as much, so yes the tail end of his career doesnt quite stack up to the early years. Other than financially ofcourse.
as ive seen in other threads, you dont know shit.... fighters move up in weiight all the fukkin time...... its a problem when floyd fights a smaller man all of a sudden? but its cool for a 5'10" de la hoya to fight 5'6" pacquiao? seriously, there is no way to even justify your hate..... you should just shut up
I dont think its fighting a smaller man thats the problem, i think it's that theres plenty of fish in his own division that he should tend to.
Also,
Very few get to the pedestool in boxing that floyd has, I feel where past greats did the torch proud and carried the sport, floyd had/perhaps still has the opportunity to carry the sport but he refuses.
don't speak too soon, floyd is coming back and hopefully he fight mosley and cotto while he's at it
i hope so, the guy's got the potential to be an all time top 10 maybe top 5. marquez/pac/cotto/mosely
and if he wants to attempt immortality - williams if he's able to make 154 and continues his tear.
i hope he doen't fight mosley because all that will happen is he'll make mosley look a fool then get shit for fighting an old man. Gotta take on Cotto really, pac too small, and although i'm a hatton fan i don't want him to go near ricky again, we all know what the out come will be.
what about berto if he keeps winning? williams at 154?
Yeah but thats what Ive been saying about Floyd for the longest. The only reason why he moved up was to chase Oscar. He never had to move up. When he was at LW, he came into the ring at 139 for everyone of his fights. He was a small LW. He was so small that I remember reading articles where writers were saying that they use to think Floyd could be a guy that would win alot of titles in different divisions but now he looks like a frail LW that would get hurt at 140. He only had 3 fights at LW. Then he goes to 140 where he comes into the ring at 144 pounds for all his fights. Again he only has 3 fights. Then he goes to WW where he comes into the ring at 148 pounds for every fight. He has 1 fight at 154 where he weighed in at only 150 pounds because it was a mandate by Oscar and was again only 148 on fight night.
He's not this big guy that everyone is making him out to be. He couldve stayed at LW forever or just now be finishing his career at 140 but he wanted to chase the Oscar fight. He's not big. Thats why he's a pot shot guy at WW because he's 148 and all of them are between 162-170 on fight night but no one seems to care about that. Its not even an exaggeration. Thats the actual stats of his weight
I'll give you that Floyd does stick right around his weight from weigh in to fight night. He doesn't lose much water weight to make the limits, phenomenal shape. The weight he has put on is pure muscle. His body is good for that. I don't think the weight Marquez puts on as he goes up will be the same quality as Floyds. I remember oscar looking very soft at his first fight at 160 n I think Marquez' additional weight will more resemble oscar's type than floyd's.
5 division in a 9 years undefeated..
most of pacman's resume were past prime fighters or not clear cut victories.
not to hate either
in my opinon, pac's best victories are against barrera the 1st fight, and the marquez fights.. and i along with many others thought marquez won both those fights against pacman.. how does pac get credit for beating zombie de la hoya and pbf doesnt when they were at a higher weight and pbf had to concede to everything? its hatred.. pac gets credit for beating a faded morales and barerra (2nd fight) and has life and death matches with marquez, beats a zombie, and a contender in diaz and all the sudden he shoots pass mayweather for atg great rankings?? nah sorry i cant go with that
Pacquiao definatly. Based off pretty much what everyone else has brought up. Although I'd still have to compare Pacquiao's W and Floyd's W. If Pacquiao wins a close decision it would bring him down a bit in comparison than if he got the KO. It would still be impressive and I'd put Pacquiao ahead but not by as much.
co-sign, a lot will factor on how he wins the fight. A close points win or a KO change the complexion on how much higher it would put him.
5 years...9 posts.
Wow...but anyway.
If its at 147...JM is a tune up.
144-143...Its a legit win.
JMM is old and moving up....
Floyd hasnt fought in 2 years.
Fair game.
LOL signed up for the free vid coverage way back.
144 fair game? i would say 140 fair game. I dont expect floyd to show much ring rust, the guy's a gym rat, always in tip top shape & he's been doing this for too long. Marquez is getting up in age.
