I was really impressed with the way Ward handled Miranda, and the Kessler. I was not sure how much was real skill and how much was hype early on - but he is really good and looks like he very well may be one of these once in a decade type guys.
roy in his prime would have had so much speed, agility and stamina he could have beaten that style. I wish this fight never happened, because now some Hopkins fans are going to think this means Hopkins would have beaten Roy in his prime...
You know they will. But this was not the old Roy - not even close. The way he used to fight he would have caught him with left hooks coming in and turned him and KOed him with combos as he rushed him into the corners.
Roy could fight one more good bye fight against a C level fighter (who would get the biggest pay day of his career) and ride into the sunset. After all he has done it is sad to see the speed diminished and the fire gone. He just does not have the desire to take chances and throw punches in bunches. To bad though so many people only remember or know this Jones - and never got to see the guy who hardly lost a round in the 90's.
I think that Roy was looking at another legend, past his prime - and did he want to let him go out on his feet, I think it could be. Maybe he couldn't do it,maybe he couldn't KO Roy, but he did say he didn't want to Holy because he said he knew Holy was past his prime and not the same fighter he was before - and that was before Toney beat him up. Roy may not have been able to KO Tito - but I think he is a thoughtful guy - and likely realized who was in front of him. Roy looked great that night and seemed to be landing at will, but only Roy will ever know if he gave it all or held back.
Prime:
Roy Super Middle
Robinson Welter
Salvador Sánchez Feather
Mayweather Welter
Ali HVY (as long as he was motivated)
"Hurricane" Hank Armstrong Welter
When you have a guy like Jones, I think people come to expect way more from him than others. The haters will point out several fighters- Benn, Michalczewski, etc... They will dismiss his victories against Hopkins, Toney, McCaullum, Ruiz, etc... Some people at the time said he was ducking Holyfield. The guy gets emotions up in people. It was a good run champ. Have fun fishing and raising chickens.
I don't think Hopkins is fighting a bad fight at all, Ornelas's defense isn't too bad he is moving out of the way and blocking some of Hopkins shots. I think Ornelas really trained hard for this fight... I don't think father time has caughten up to Bhop like some of you are saying. With that said, I personally think Bhop is winning but I could be wrong. The commentators keep swinging me though, I ain't going to lie.
I just don't think that B-Hop should look like this with a guy like Ornelas. I think he will win - but it does not look great.
There are so many things wrong with this list it is tough to know where to start. I guess we all have a favorite fighter or two - writers included - they must have rated their favorites really high. No way objective - Hatton, Margarito, there are some real bad rankings there.
