Well...lol. Hopkins won. I once again talked myself into believing Roy could fight a certain way, that he can no longer fight. I need to stop letting what I want to happen, influence my fight predictions. The Calzaghe fight should have been the final nail in the coffin as far as ever picking Roy over a top fighter goes.
I did have a whole write up about this, but I scrapped it, because I don't think its neccessary. I think what we have here is two 40 something year old athletes...One who still can fight at a high level, and one who cannot. Good for Hopkins and his fans that he won, they have a right to be happy. Although, I did not think Hopkins looked very good, but still he won. As far as Roy Jones Jr. fans(like myself), we gotta hope he retires. lol. This is the perfect example of what happens when you hang around too long in boxing. Roy Jones is speed fighter, a speed fighter should never fight into his late 30's-40's. It was a stupid decision by Roy as it was for Ali and Leonard. The sad thing is, people who don't know who he was, will only remember this.
I was talking to this kid the other day about the fight, and he said, "I can't get excited for that. Roy Jones sucks, he gets knocked out every fight." Its sad that it has to this.....but oh well. We always have the old fights on dvd to watch when we want in the future. Roy Jones Jr. needs to retire though, its not going to get any better.
It was a bad fight, it was a sad fight, it was a wish it never had fight. It was boring, I was snoring, the money was pouring, PPV was whoring. Jones and Hopkins should never consider touring, it left me withing a soaring, they should retire like Alonzo Mourning. LMAO :haha:
thats how I feel this morning.
i was gonna stay up to watch it live but then i thought f*ck that

I dont know why people actually thought roy was gonna win going into the fight. Roy without his speed is just a below average boxer (compared to his competition).
Yeah he looked good against Jeff Lacy.... but that was Jeff Lacy. Roy is nothing without his speed.
thats going too far to say hes nothing. Roy often gets called one of the smartest fighters in boxing, he did he have skills. Its just the skills he had were unorthodox. But its not like he was just guy that knew nothing but was just really fast. lol

I figured Hopkins is 45 and roy is still faster than him. Plus I thought that Roy would be dying to beat Hopkins more than anybody else. I thought he'd fight harder than he did. I thought Roy would fight like he did against lacy and let his hands go...

I said before the fight started that if roy danced to hopkins beat, that he would lose. and thats exactly what he did. He fought Hopkins fight.
Roy hasnt' been the same fighter in big fights since he got knocked out by Antonio Tarver in 2004. He can still look like himself against lacys and ajamus of the world, but when he fights another top guy, he cant do it.
In reality this fight doesnt mean anything really. lol. Even if Roy would have won...all that would have meant is that he beat a 45 year old. Hopkins is still good, but hes seen better days too. This was a fight for Hopkins and Jones to make more money and compete for the sake of competition. But this fight doesnt hold the clout it would have 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago...
roy in his prime would have had so much speed, agility and stamina he could have beaten that style. I wish this fight never happened, because now some Hopkins fans are going to think this means Hopkins would have beaten Roy in his prime...
You know they will. But this was not the old Roy - not even close. The way he used to fight he would have caught him with left hooks coming in and turned him and KOed him with combos as he rushed him into the corners.

the thing that pisses me off about hopkins is that he punches just to score points now not to hurt his opponent it seems like.
All of his inside punches are just arm punches that barely do damage. His straight right is his only really effective punch
^Thats the thing its almost impossible to beat hopkins cleanly because of the way he started fighting from 1995-2010. I give props to Calzaghe and Taylor for squeaking out close wins.
Hopkins game is basically jab jab right hand clinch punch to the hip(maybe a low blow if the ref isnt lookin) jab jab again right hand right hand punch on the hip during the clinch..lol
its hard to deal with that style for anyone. Although I still think if this fight happened in their primes, Roy would have won.
Roy couldnt get off in the inside, hopkins was holding everytime... that really hurt roys chances of winning the fight...
b-hope needs to ****in retire, he pulled the same shit against calzaghe...
I lost a little respect for Hopkins tonight with all the falling on the ground. How come he hit roy in the balls and roy wasnt rolling on the ground every minute? Also, its a little rediculous when the dirtiest player in the game is complaining about fouls. lol
Roy could fight one more good bye fight against a C level fighter (who would get the biggest pay day of his career) and ride into the sunset. After all he has done it is sad to see the speed diminished and the fire gone. He just does not have the desire to take chances and throw punches in bunches. To bad though so many people only remember or know this Jones - and never got to see the guy who hardly lost a round in the 90's.

Jones looked great, had good stamina was bouncing around looking like his old self, he just couldn't pull the trigger for some reason. I'm thinking Roy can still beat alot of guys, just not the best ones. I mean shit Hopkins is top 5 P4P for god's sake. There's other guys Roy could beat, I wish he'd rematch Danny Green and give that one more go.
