Hopkins should have been docked a point early in the fight. His holding was excessive and made for a dour fight.
If he'd been punished by the referee I think we'd have seen him win more impressively as when he let his hands go (although not very often), he did the better work.
With the way Wink was struggling with the excess weight, if B-Hop had thrown more he could well of KOed him.
Instead we had a poor fight in which Hopkins took the safest path to victory.
Haye has the power to KO anyone in the game if he lands. He had Solis all over the place and had it not been in the amateurs he'd have finsihed him off.
He's got years and years left.
There are questions that need answering . . . stamina, chin (possibly) but surely no-one can question his talent/potential.
I agree, Joe UD in a cracking fight.
Thing is whenever Joe has been tagged in the past he's went toe-to-toe and brawled. Don't know whether his hands are up to 12 rounds of slugging. He broke them slapping Manfredo for 4 rounds.
If he can ignore his pride and just box he'll coast to a UD, if not who knows.
It's been up for nearly a week. A lot of their assumptions are false but let's hope not with this one.
There's no reason at all this fight shouldn't happen this year.
My RBR.
1.10-9 Simms.
Pretty cagey round but TS looking to land more.
2.Even second. They are waiting on each other and no-one is getting into a rythym.
Simms moving backwards all of the round looking to catch Alcine coming in.
3.10-9 Alcine. landing straight rights for the first time and Simms looking wild with single shots.
4.Alcine 10-9. Scrappy and uneventful so far.
Lots of tying up, holding, foot tangles . . .
5.Even 5th. Crowd booing.
Two counter punchers looking to counter punch but not punching much so mainly just looking at each other . . .
6.9-9 Alcine's round but docked a point for hitting on the break?!?!?! Didn't see that, harsh.
Better body work from Alcine. Simms hasn't atken a forward step so far.
7. 10-9 Simms. Threw more punches and landed some decent ones. He threw a combination too!
Better round. Referee warns Simms for holding hence better round.
8. 10-8 Alcine. Point docked from |Simms for holding . . . 6 rounds too late IMO.
The body work by Alcine and Simms' inactivity might make for a good ending to the fight.
9. 10-8 Alcine. KD for Simms looked soft, like a slip.
Still holding any time he can
10. 10-9 Alcine. Agressive and landing more.
11. 10-9 Alcine. Simms looks like he wants a bum-bum with the Canadian, he's holding all the time. Ref deducted a point earlier but it hassn't stopped him at all.
12. 12th round. Meh. Alcine again. Simms went orthordox and ate the jab most of the round. There was less holding opportunities when they were both righties.
IMO Alcine clearly won the fight but will Simms' hometown advantage have a say . . . probably.
Ref should've followed up on the point deduction for holding but didn't mention it again even though Simms did it just as often.
Rubbishy fight like.
I had it 117-108 for Alcine.
2 rounds to Simms and 2 even.
Simms looked all out of ideas.
He won't have a chin if he goes up to heavy-weight. Thats my opinion. Once he steps his game up and takes on some big known names in the heavyweight division, he will hit the canvas.
We'll find out after after his next fight.
Why? So, he can beat more heavy weight bums and avoid boxers like klitschko? Haye is not a heavy weight boxer material.
He's moving up because he is big at Cruiser and has the power to transfer to Heavy. He could easily be the best Heavy out there in a few years. He's very young, packs a punch and has lightening hands for a Heavy.
He has stated that his goals in boxing are to win the WBC Cruiser and then the WBC Heavy straps and retire.
Hopefully he was talking shit as that's a poor goal. He should be aiming to unify in the long term.
I take it the shows this weekend and next will be on itv???
This weeks is but not sure about next week. ITV couldnt confirm the AAA fight would be shown when I e-mailed them a few days ago. Might be related to Sentena/Warred.
Arthur's fight must be shown. Would be gutted to miss that one.
I'm a fan of Froch mainly because of the exposure he got on the BBC early on.
A lot of people are interested in seeing him fight, a fair few to see him KOed due to his cockiness.
