many arguments here are idiotic!!!!!
Lets put it this way, PacMan is Filipino and his fan base is many thousand miles away back in Philippines, most of whom cant afford to buy tickets to fly to watch PacMan fight. Oscar is American, a very large portion of his fans is in America.
Weve all seen both PacMan and Oscar fill out stadiums in America, I give this a tie with a slight edge to PacMan. However if we had to pick a fighter who would most likely fill a 500,000 seat hypothetical stadium in Philippines (with both fights happening at the same time and place), I highly doubt that Oscar could even fill 10,000 of those seats.......PacMan however would easily fill his (provided tickets are affordable to the poor).
Oscar was and still is one of the biggest things boxing has ever seen. Manny is definitely getting there, but Oscar is a whole different level of superstar.
I mean, dude was so popular he made a latino pop album that ended up being nominated for a Grammy.
They called him the golden boy for a reason. Oscar single-handedly removed the Heavyweight's grip on the publics interest in boxing in the late mid-late 90s.
Without Oscar no one would care about Floyd or Manny. Theyd be putting 4,900 people in Vegas on BAD.
Floyd and Manny may sell more PPVs 10+ years later, but Oscar was the game changer that made that possible.
Manny had couple of songs, movies and a political career himself. The guy is highly respected and known in Asia. In terms of popularity, Asias billions certainly beat Americas millions.
Quit it with the hypothetical situations, when tickets are sold dirt cheap, who wouldn't go to a fight? DLH in his prime could have sold out Azteca Stadium (110,000 capacity, and this is a real stadium.) against Chavez .
Believe it or not, most people are not boxing fans. Some athletes though transcend the sport itself in their home country, for America its Ali for Philippines its PacMan. Oscar hasnt gotten even close to this in his home country.
Put it this way, PacMan would be able to match Oscars attendances IN AMERICA but there is no way in hell Oscar would even come close of matching PacMan in Philippines.
Until we see a big American Heavyweight become a cash cow. All the athletes in America will go towards playing in the NBA or NFL.
Boxing just doesnt have the appeal anymore for these big guys.
The rest of the world has simply caught up and passed the US of A, ey.
So far there has been absolutely no proof that a professional NFL player could hack it as a professional boxer of high standards or even just make it as a professional boxer. Just name me an an ex NFL player currently holding a title belt in boxing......just one.
Boxing is one of the most tiring and brutal sport around. In the NFL you have all these paddings and all these rests/commercial breaks. It has been said that in a typical 3 hours NFL game, there is only 11 minutes worth of actual play.
Rugby players are far and away more suited to combat sport than NFL players, and especially NBA players. This is why your starting to see more and more rugby players switching over to boxing/combat sports.
Rugby League is well suited to combat competitions like boxing and MMA, more so than NFL. I watched two ex rugby league players box two nights ago, Anthony "The Man" Mundine (ex Dragons rugby player) defended his WBA Internetional Middleweight belt and Garth "The Hood" Woods (ex Rabbitohs rugby player) who won the Australian Contender series against former Kenyan Olympian boxer Kariz Kariuki.
Woods would be good in boxing and perfect for MMA. A though competitor, a great chin, great punch, great at dirty boxing and can wrestle. At the moment he is unpolished and a straight up brawler, having just taken up boxing less than a year ago. Give this guy time, more opponent and he might challenge for a wold title.

The fastest rugby player is South African. Habana and he does 10.2 in 100m. While there are many NFL guys who can do 10.2 Also Habana was outsprinted by an American in the rugby world cup.
No the fastest guy isnt Habana, the problem is that there are two rugby codes both of which do not have a standard testing method. Also you have to watch out for the difference between the quickest and the fastest.
Habana versus Ngwenya, well what can I say. Habana was on the last line of defence and so ws facing the opposition goal posts, he was simply wrong footed and also had to turn and chase which is a major disadvantage in any football codes. They make a big deal out of that simply because America is a minnow country and usually dont score too many points and dont have too much highlight reel against Southern hemisphere countries.

Dwain Chambers, former Olympic level sprinter tried out for the Tigers (who are not very good esp compared with a soutehrn hemisphere team). In a foot race Dwain came last.

One Rugby League player who has gone on from rugby and made an immediate impact is Anthony Mundine, who is currently champ in several weight division and who first fought for the IBF supermiddleweight after only 10 professional fights.

Another South Sydney Rugby League product might make waves in boxing. At the moment he is unpolished, technique not proper but has a great chin and heart. Still only has 8 pro fights but has recently won against a former Olympian to get the Australian Contender prize. Watch out for Garth Wood in the future.

Please name me one rugby player faster than Habana.
Name me a rugby player having a sprint competition with a AF player?
Also please explain how being able to run faster = a better boxer.
Artest > Both Klitschkos
Very much doubt it, muscles and height isnt everything. What most here are forgetting is the most important thing in boxing, that is the ability to take a hit and hit back, heart and determination. Basketball isnt the best sport for a switch, something rougher like rugby is perfect where wrestling is mandatory and taking huge hits whether it be through a tackle, a sneaky punch in a scrum, or a stomp to the head on a ruck.
Having that mongrel about you is something very important, sadly ive seen very little of this in the NBL.
NFL players are much stronger, faster than rugby players
That is an opinion. One fact though is that last year a semi pro American Football team played with an amature Rugby League team (both teams American) in a half and half challenge (see below). The first half was played under American Football rules and the second half under Rugby League rules. Overall the Rugby League team won, they were able to score a TD in the American Football half and kept the gridiron players scoreless in the Rugby League half.
I have no doubt in my mind that there are many Rugby players that are stronger and or faster than many American Football players. Case in point the many times Worlds Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski also played Rugby Union before switching to MMA. However it would be very rare to see a professional rugby player carring as much fat/excess baggage as some of the guys in American Football.

Most 2nd half tackles seen the Knights (American Football) players on their backs to allow the Axemen (Rugby League) lots of time
I can see many more rugby (especially rugby league) players switching to boxing. The rugby salary cap, cross sport training and the growing exposure of boxing in Australia/Pacific Islands will only increase this.
As ive said previously, to be a good boxer and MMA fighter you need to have heart. Former Rugby League player showed this for his win against Kariz Kariuki for the final of Australian Contender.
You can have all the muscles and the meanest looking mug, but if you dont have the heart to fight through pain/adversity then youll never be a good boxer.
Wood wins with broken hand

Garth Wood, boxing
Painful success...Garth Wood scored his Contender victory with a broken right hand. Picture: Justin Lloyd Source: The Daily Telegraph
MIDNIGHT refuses to toll on Garth Wood's Cinderella story, which took a quantum fairytale leap after doctors confirmed he won The Contender final with a broken right hand.
X-rays yesterday proved Monday night's shock victory over Kenyan giant Kariz Kariuki drew on more guts and determination than were initially evident from Wood's blood-soaked shorts.
The 31-year-old has revealed he felt his right hand "go crack" after landing a trademark overhead bomb on Kariuki's dial.
Incredibly, the mishap occurred during just the second round of a fight the injured Wood dominated from start to finish.
"I knew exactly when it happened, I felt it go crack and it started to hurt," he said.
"But what could I do? There was no way I was going to stop, because I'd come so far and was really dominating him early.
"I didn't even bother telling my trainer. There was nothing anyone could've done. It wasn't like they could unwrap my gloves and ice my hand during the fight.
"All I could do was get on with it and try to ignore the pain."
Wood conceded that he "backed off" in the third round because of the pain, but nevertheless finished a clear winner.
"Kariz is pretty lucky I reckon because during the first two rounds I reckon I was on track to knock him out," the former Rabbitohs and Tigers utility continued.
"That was my aim and I reckon it would have happened had I not broken my hand."
Although his hand had swollen to "the size of a football" later, Wood's adrenalin masked the pain for the next 36 hours.
"Straight after the fight I had to see a lot of mates at the after-party and I was on such a high that I sort of forgot about it," he said.
"Then (on Tuesday) I had a heap of media commitments and television, so I didn't get to really ice it. By (yesterday) morning I was in agony. I couldn't even drive to the doctor to get X-rays."
The scans immediately confirmed two breaks at the base of Wood's right index finger, and he was ordered to Prince of Wales Hospital to see a specialist last night.
Wood will now have surgery as soon as possible in a bid to quickly resume boxing and prepare for his reward - a prize fight against Anthony Mundine.
"After so long in the wilderness, I've realised this is what I want to do with my life," Wood said. "I've only had eight fights and I've won The Contender
"I reckon I've got a lot more improvement left. I believe I can go a long way."
I am usually not one to believe allegations like this where there is no substantial proof. However, I believe Roy in this case. Having your hand wrapped two hours in advanced is not normal. Neither is saying you will be DQ'd. All fighters have the right (At least in North America) to force his opponents to be re-wrapped if done illegally. Also Danny Green was never a huge puncher, and Roy has faced better punches and never has been laid out from a glancing shot in the first fukking round.
What is or isnt normal is not relevant. Both sides should have signed the wraps which they did and both sides must have checked for how it was wrapped which they also did. Why didnt Roy cry foul prior to or during the fight? Danny Green has always been known as a hard puncher and a boxer with plenty of heart. I guess on the night Roy simply underestimated an overseas boxer, his show boating style isnt the best idea when going up against a hard puncher like Green.

damn this is fukked up./.this is why fighters dont wanna leave america
Many overseas fighters also do not want to leave their country. In most instances it is the overseas fighters who must accomodate the American officials, American rules, American governing bodies. In most of these fights it is the American fighters who have home ground advantage, they do not have to leave their homes and change their routines by much. There have also been MANY fights with odd decisions.
Roy Jones Jr fought in Australia, Australian officials are just as competent as Americans, and the fight was overseen by Australian officials who would have looked for and detected instances of cheating. If cheating was found the officials would have stopped the fight. The only thing RJJ's camp would've had to do is point it out to the officials, the officials would have checked it and acted upon it. The officials would've have to deal with any crowd backlash etc.
The fact of the matter is that RJJ NEVER mentioned it while in Australia and never mentioned it to the officials. He went home and cried to momma to protect his ego.
what i find strange about this whole situation is when they asked danny green about roy's accusations he didn't want to comment about it!
I guess some fighters have enough sense to not put boxing into disrepute. What woule he have said? "the wraps I used were legal"? Its basically a case of RJJ's word versus Danny Greens word.
Picture of empty boxes doesnt prove anything and does not prove whether Green used an illegal wraps during the fight. Also, RJJ must provide everyone with the actual pictures before anyone from the Green camp can comment properly.
what are you guys on man? seriously you expect Roy to say something while he's still over there? let alone in the ****ing ring inside the arena?
YES, no one wants cheating and RJJ should have complained during the fight. Australia isnt a dangerous country and have hosted some of the biggest and best events in sports. If RJJ is worried about any organised crime, someone should have told him that Australia's organised crime isnt very organised and are more interested in offing each other.
they not gonna give a shit about what happens to him yo they probably was treating him shitty the whole time and probably put him in a shitty dressing room, they wasn't showing this legend no respect
I have absolutely no doubt that Roy Jones Jr was treated allot better than Danny Green. He would have been driven around in a limo, stayed in the best and most exclusive Hotels and pampered like a King. Australians are typically not the showoff types like the Americans.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/danny-green-ignores-the-razzamatazz-of-the-ring/story-e6frf9if-1225804415410
-If ever there was a bloke who understood how little showbiz means to success, it is Green. He runs the streets alone, trains among reserve-grade rugby league players.
-There is no driver as Green dodges peak-hour traffic on Wednesday morning trips to the Parramatta Stadium gym.
-No razzamatazz as he spends the next 90 minutes in a whirl of furious exercises, treadmill runs and old-school antics. Green challenges monster Parramatta prop Fuifui Moimoi to choke him, demands conditioner Hayden Knowles karate-chop his neck, too.
-Jones recently whinged when there was no chauffeured limousine to take him from Sydney Airport. Green is more concerned about finding $2.75 in his centre console for the M4 toll. "Yet people are always telling me about the glamorous world of boxing," he said. "But it's bulls---, mate. Doesn't exist."
-Green drives a 1974 Falcon and will not play AC/DC "without Bon Scott". And when he and Hyder fall to the floor wrestling on Wednesday morning, Green immediately attacks the mouth with his dreaded "fishhook" manoeuvre.
-Then there was a moment at midnight on Tuesday, when a group of schoolboys using a room opposite were still partying in the hallway, screaming, laughing and randomly ringing doorbells. "Then they buzzed mine," Green said. "So I've opened the door in my shorts and asked what the bloody hell was going on. "There was about 20 kids. They all went pretty quiet." That's where it would have ended for most athletes. But not Green. He was back in bed less then five minutes before rising again, crossing the hall and banging on the door to apologise for being so harsh.
Pink couldn't even KO Mundine and he's going to do that to Roy Jones Jr on a shot that barely even landed? **** outta here son don't play my boy Roy Jones Jr like that man he paid his dues
And you think Danna Green hasnt paid his dues? The guy has busted his as$, trained hard and trained even harder when all people could talk about was how he was going to loose. Green didnt KO mundine but has KOéd 25 fighters from his 28 wins. Green has always been regarded as a hard puncher.
Most people went for Roy Jones Jr to win this fight, I went for Danny Green. Why? because I kned that RJJ likes to showboat and keep his hands low, I also know that Danny has a hard punch and will most likely see an opening and land one good one.
The fact is that Danny has worn that same wrap and the brown material that secures the wrap/glove against many if not all of his opponents. He wore the same thing against Mundine. Danny has also used that same wrap and material to hold the wrap in place against his last fight agaisnt Julio Cesar Dominguez, this fight was held in AMERICA. It was also inspected and passed by the boxing regulatory body in America.
Green doesnt seem to be hiding this fact or even aware of it. Both the bodies regulating boxing in America and Australia also seems to have passed it without much issues.
Everything indicates that Roy Jones Jr just cant accept his loss. He needs to move on now.

Yep.....inexperience by Mundine.....he was whooping Ottke's ass up until the KO..... but he got careless and sven got a bit lucky.....punch hit Mundine sqaure on the temple.........
Mundine went up against Ottke after only having had 10 professional fights, same as Garth Wood going up against Mundine after only 8 professional fights.
Garth Woods has plenty of guts and determination but at this stage has allot to learn in boxing. His style is very unusual and would be a danger to anyone.
Mundine loves to play it safe now that he has the top spot, however he has allot of skills.
Mundine promised to fight the winner of the Australian Contender. From the looks of it Garth with his very unusual style is more of a danger to Mundine than just about anyone. Ever since Garths win, Mundine has been trying to back track on his words and either delay and or avoid the fight.
