who is the better draw? oscar in his prime or pacquiao now? DLH sold out the 30,000seat Home Depot Center against a no name opponent easily. i think he could have gotten 70k at Cowboys Stadium..what do you guys think? (keep it clean guys lol)
I get what the TS is saying but you also gotta look at the opposition. The biggest reason they've fought the people that they're going against already had a built in audience. That's why you only hear about manny and floyd talking about fighting only guys that are draws, no? They dont want anything to do with anyone that doesnt have a solid name. You're going to tell me that Cotto and mosley and hatton don't bring anything to the table? Yeah right! I guess there's exceptions like the clottey fight but someone brought up the mayorga fight as a comparison for oscar. Oscar fought guys that no one really knew on hbo ppv for his whole career! Floyd and manny are looking for guys that'll also bring somewhat of an audience. Then ts is talking about oscar not getting his highest ppv without floyd. That may be somewhat true but at the same time oscar was still the main reason because oscar had been doing very well on ppvs for a while at that point. So pac and floyd still have yet to meet their own high point. And without fighting each other I don't think they're repeating their success they had with fighting oscar.
When floyd and manny start making OTHER fighters into ppv attractions then this discussion would be a little more interesting imo
OK and?
The question is Pac now and Oscar in his prime. And, now Pac and Oscar are bigger than Oscar ever was...
Oscar in his whole career has 4 PPVs where has a million and more so far Pac and Floyd have 3.
But, if you take there equation out, so no Oscar, Floyd or Pac.
Oscar has 2 PPV events where he did a million or more-Tito(1.4mil) and Hopkins(1mil)
Floyd has 2 PPV events where he did a million or more-JMM(1.1mil) and Mosley(1.4mil)
Pac has 2 PPV events where he did a million or more-Cotto(1.2mil) and Margarito(1.15mil)
And, it is safe to say that Tito was a bigger draw than what JMM, B-Hop, Mosley, Margarito, and Cotto ever were. Just take that into account.
Look how close that is... And, Pac and Floyd are still going to numbers where he would do more million buys. And, if they ever fight each other it would break Oscar-Floyd numbers.
They're bigger now than what Oscar ever was....
+1 agreed, i think people are misunderstanding the TS's question and not looking at the facts.

I think this is a stupid question....Pacquiao or oscar de la hoya the golden boy? The guy who can come back and sale millions off his name...tell me your kidding?
I think Pac is, IMO....
I think right now both Pac and Floyd are bigger than Oscar ever was.
Oscar > Floyd > Pac.
this put us on very upset in my village but it is the true.
If you compare the bigger draw now, meaning this present time, yes Pac and Floyd are bigger than Oscar cuz Oscar is retired already.
If you compare their career, Oscar beat both Pac and Floyd.
You have to remember that advancement in technology, better marketing/advertising of fights. Also, there are more homes that have cable and dish tv compare in the 90's.
Oscar's first ppv was in his 18th fight against Ruelas(corrections if i am wrong). Floyd's first ppv was against Gatti, his 34th fight(corrections if wrong).
Pac's first ppv was against Morales on his 42th fight. Now for somebody like Pac who came across from the Pacific Ocean and accomplish what he did, that is amazing. And i am not being bias when i say this but it is hard for a non-American to make it big in boxing here in the US. Even if Sergio Martinez is 25 years old, it will be hard for him to what Pac has accomplish.
FALSE
Money vs Pac would sell more than possibly any other fight yet, I believe it.
They are not bigger draws now in general and I don't see them ever being. His name is synonymous to boxing. Oscar is one of a kind stop trying to compare him to others.
Oscar name is not synonymous to boxing GTFOH, Oscar is an after thought.
they didnt need a gold medal but they needed the man who won the gold medal to get there, and dont say that i asked right now, because something needed to happen so they could get to where they are right now, and they fought oscar
OK, and?
Still right now they're bigger than Oscar ever was. Does it really matter how they got to the point to be surpassing Oscar? As long as they're surpassing Oscar.
And, that is all fine and dandy but he still not a bigger draw than what Floyd and Pac are right now. And, they didn't need to win any gold medal to accomplish that.

Everyone is saying Pactard this and pactard that. And, that Oscar was a bigger draw but nobody is showing any proof.
Right now, as in right now both Floyd and Pac are bigger draws than Oscar ever was. Ok Oscar made them, fine but that doesn't take right now they're bigger draws than he ever was.
BTW, I also like that Oscar made Tito, Mosley, and Hopkins... I mean let me give you a list of all the million PPV buys they had.

Oscar was the main reason the biggest PPV fight occurred, but to say Floyd wasn't a main factor in generating that much PPV is a joke. Oscar couldn't do 2mill with any other opponents besides Floyd - fact.
Very true, and I agree people don't want to understand that though.
Floyd can surpass that by fighting Pac
I agree.
and Floyd would be the Oscar of the Oscar-Floyd match and Pac would be the Floyd of the match in terms of PPV draw.
Here is where I disagree, both Floyd and Pac would be the Oscar in that match. That is why it would surpass the Oscar-Floyd fight. Yes Oscar was the headline for The World awaits but Floyd was also a factor in the buys like you mentioned.
However, going in to that Floyd was doing less than 400k while Oscar already had a few fights doing more than 900k.
Now going into the Floyd-Pac fight you would have both superstars doing more than 900k PPV buys. Which is quite different from the Floyd-Oscar situation.

Bigger draw-DLH or Pacquiao | BoxingScene Community
