In the last few months, every Australian fighter has called out Anthony Mundine, including Michael Katsidis, Danny Green and several others. The latest to challenge Mundine is IBO welterweight world champion Lovemore Ndou who slammed Mundine for accepting a fight with former rugby league player Garth Wood. Wood only has 8 pro fights to his credit.
"At the end of the day he (Mundine) doesn't get the respect that he deserves," Ndou told AAP. "Win or lose, as long as you are fighting good fighters, you will still maintain your respect. If you beat up nobodies and make noise like he's making and claiming he's got no challengers, that's ridiculous, you know what is ridiculous? Mundine is supposed to be a three-time world champion and now he's supposed to fight Garth Wood, an eight-fight novice. Does it make him look any good?"
Ndou is prepared to move up by two weight divisions to challenge Mundine.
"He doesn't have to worry about going down to junior middleweight, I will fight him at middleweight," Ndou said. "I'm looking at trying to unify the title and get someone else who is holding another version of the welterweight title, but apart from that this is the year I'd like to beat up Mundine and I believe I'm the one who can shut him up."
