Either way, it's a lose-lose situation for Chavez. If he fights Martinez and the other name guys out there like Cotto, Margarito, Angulo, and Williams, then Chavez is in for a world of pain. If he doesn't fight any of these guys, then he'll be nothing more than a coward and a fraud, and the boxing media will view him as such.
One thing is for certain. Chavez Jr. is not his father. Ain't gonna be another Mexican fighter who can top Chavez Sr. accomplishments (however, I think the ref shouldn't have stopped his fight against Meldrick Taylor).
Chavez Jr. has sure found his identity of being a bum world title holder. He's a huge disgrace to Mexico and Mexican boxing. He should crawl in a hole and keep eating burritos for the rest of his life, because he's undisciplined, cowardly, too privileged, and basically had his work cut out for him. If this bum didn't have Chavez for a last name, he wouldn't amount to sh*t.
I agree. If Chavez Jr. (180 pounds) needed the last round to win against a light-hitter in Zbik (165 pounds), then he's seriously going to have problems with fighters who can punch. In other words, basically every name fighter in the junior middleweight and middleweight divisions. Chavez is not ready for Martinez, and Arum knows it. Heck, Arum even told us that Chavez will not fight Cotto next because Chavez is not ready for him. How much more so with Martinez?
Agreed. He's getting KNOCKED OUT!
I agree. Chavez is just that much of a bum. 43 tomato cans have tried. 43 have failed. That's all well and good. Now let's see Chavez against a real fighter like Cotto, Margarito, Angulo, Williams, and especially Martinez. Jesus Christ, I can't believe these Chavez dickriders. They claim to know boxing. Bull****.
Undisputed? Bull****. Stop deluding yourself. Martinez will destroy Chavez Jr. within three rounds like the fraud that he is. You make me laugh. You couldn't even answer me when I asked you what quality opponent Chavez Jr. has fought. I'll answer that one for you. Chavez Jr. has fought bums, part-time boxers, and tomato cans that Sergio Martinez will easily dismantle. Martinez has fought Pavlik, Cintron, and Williams. Those three opponents are bigger draws than ANY opponent in Chavez's record.
Can't believe the anti-Martinez, Chavez fanboy trolls haven't checked in yet
You mean 'TheSmash' and those other idiots? LOL they're so full of **** it's not even funny. Martinez sends Chavez's ass back to Mexico. Plain and simple. Martinez DESTROYED Paul Williams, the previous #3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Chavez will not be able to make it competitive against Martinez the way Williams did in their first fight.
Actually, Martinez was a very late replacement opponent for Williams after Pavlik backed out with Williams forthe second. So the notion that Martinez "only fought Williams after Quintana exposed him" is ridiculous considering Williams was becoming a big name and Martinez was basically a nobody in their first fight.
I agree. Martinez's recent opponents (Pavlik, Cintron, and Williams) all called him out. Had that been the other way around, I'm pretty sure their fights would never have happened.
come on the dude had 1 foot in the betty ford clinic. just stop it already.
if steroidgio martinez were legit he wouldn't be fighting BARKER THE GOAT FARMER.
if floyd or manny fought someone like BARKER THE GOAT FARMER a gigantic sh1tstorm of epic proportions would befall them.
Yup, you definitely have cum in your brain.
That's like saying that if Pacquiao is legit, he wouldn't be fighting old, slow, and beat up guys like Mosley, de la hoya, and Cotto. And if Mayweather is legit, he wouldn't be cherry-picking opponents.
I owned you a few articles back, and I'll own you again, dumbass.
LOL don't mind him. I don't know what kind of mental illness he has, but he clearly isn't fit to talk intelligently. I've bagged his ass several times before too.
Julio "Sugar" Cesar Chavez is the undisputed middleweight champion of the world, he would knock both these bums out on the same night at the same time. Real fans know that Chavez is unbeatable at Middleweight.
Damn, that must be some mighty fine weed you're smoking.
Major robbery tonight. I don't know what sickens me more: the fact that Williams' trainer didn't do anything to improve Williams' defense so as not to get caught by the left hand, the biased judges who gave an unfair score in favor of Williams, or the fact that Williams himself thought he had won that fight.
This is like Martinez-Williams all over again. A rematch is absolutely needed. This is a travesty in the sport of boxing.
Julio Cesar Chavez is the baddest man on the planet.
To suggest Martinez, with his collection of "victories" over cherry-picked cab drivers and 135lb goat-farmers, could hang with Chavez for more than 6 rounds is laughable. Better men than Martinez have tried and failed. Chavez would decimate and retire Martinez; a fact that Sergio is well aware of.
Chavez is the legitimate middleweight champion of the world: Martinez can't be the first, but he can be the next ; you can run Sergio, but you can't hide - 43 have tried and 43 have failed.
Dumb. Ass.
That's three curse words right there.
hahahaha you guys need to get your heads out of where the sun don't shine. Jr will not fight Martinez. You talk about Martinez fighting bums, come on man who the hell is Zbik, Duddy, and the other 41? I bet Jr will vacate the belt before fighting Martinez. Sulaiman should impose the same for Spice girl, making him fight a ranked mandatory challenger.
I agree. Chavez's record fails in comparison to Martinez's. If Chavez vacates the belt before fighting Martinez, then he's going to be labeled a coward and a fraud. If Chavez decides to fight the best in the light middleweight and middleweight divisions (which includes Cotto, Margarito, Williams, Cintron, Martinez, Angulo, and even Pavlik), then Chavez is in for a world of pain. Either way, I see it as a lose-lose situation for Chavez.
At some point in the not too distant future one of these cans will just beat him. If he makes the mistake of fighting one with some punching power he could be in trouble.
Just about any fighter with punching power will defeat Chavez. Seriously, why do you think Chavez-Alvarez hasn't been made yet? Simple. Alvarez can punch. Alvarez is an unproven fighter in my book, but he still destroys Chavez like the fraud he is. Not to mention real contenders like Angulo, Cotto, Martinez, and Margarito. How long can Chavez Jr. keep ducking these fighters?
Martinez isn't man enough to fight a real challenge. 147lb goatfarmers and part-time janitors/ cab drivers only.
You got cum in your brain or something?
Wanst the WBC Dimon belt created as a trophy type belt for major fights and it wasnt defendable because it was like a trophy???
I swear, men!!!!!!
Why are boxers stupid enough to keep paying this sanctioning fees and ****??
The Diamond Belt gives whoever possesses it the immediate right to face the holder of the legitimate world title belt. And that's what Martinez is trying to do. Personally, I think it's just a money-making scheme, but you can't deny that whoever holds a belt these days gets a certain amount of attention regardless of how valuable that belt may be. Needless to say, Sergio Martinez is going to pry that WBC middleweight championship belt from Chavez Jr.'s cold, lifeless hands.
It's pretty clear that Martinez didn't really feel motivated to train going into his fight against Barker. He's more flat-footed compared to his past fights. That, and the fact that Barker gave 100% in his training, results in surprises like this. Still, a 50% Martinez knocking out a 100% undefeated middleweight 7 years his junior deserves respect.
Chavez needs to stop eating burritos and face the reality. He had a 20-pound advantage over a B-class fighter in Zbik and still DIDN'T manage to knock his ass out. In comparison, Martinez weighs just about the same as his recent opponents and he clocks them into submission. Chavez had better brace himself. He's gonna become taco meat come March next year.
Quillin vs Chavez Jr.??? Then, if Quillin wins, Martinez can fight Quillin instead of Chavez Jr. & everybody's happy:)
That's probably not going to happen. Roach trains both fighters.
seriously??? lara that had a draw with molina??? just stop it...
I agree. If Martinez fought Williams that night instead of Lara, the fight would not have gone the full 12 rounds. Martinez beats Lara hands down. Also, if Roach is so convinced that Martinez's boxing skills are sub-par, then why is he not setting up a Pacquiao-Martinez matchup?
chavez can't even beat paul williams of today...dam bumb..i dear him fight sergio win or lose i'll respect him but him and canelo is the champs...why is paul williams fighting all these tough people and the champs keep fightin bumbs..**** boxin and hbo.....paul williams could beat chavez..i wanna see it....got 50,000 on paul
You're an idiot. If that had been Martinez fighting Wiliams that night instead of Lara, I can assure you Williams would get knocked out with one punch. Again.
JCC Jr will fight a way out, even if he agreed to the fight there's no way Arum will let it happen.
If Chavez thinks he deserves that belt of his more than Martinez does, then Chavez has to secure a fight with him by any means necessary.

You're an idiot. That's all I have to say.
I think the floyd/martinez fight could happen for one reason. Floyd would get the massive, lion's share of the revenue.
And honestly, floyd vs anyone would sell, but against canelo, you could argue that canelo is bringing in the fans and therefore should get the %%.
Against Martinez, the $$ would be secured for floyd for a massive percentage. The gate/ppv would be atg as martinez is easily marketed as a threat (4 straight KOs of larger men).
It really makes sense for Floyd to take this fight.
Good point. Plus, a handful of folks who pay to see Mayweather fight usually want to see him lose. If done right, Mayweather-Martinez could really make a lot of money for Mayweather.
You're such a dumbass for thinking that Chavez actually has a decent chance to win against Martinez. Martinez ****ing DESTROYED Paul Williams, the previous #3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. What the **** makes you think that Chavez has any tools to hurt Martinez? Where the **** is Chavez in the rankings?! Get the **** outta here, you ****ing delusional piece of ****.
