A middleweight fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez will likely get ordered in December. The World Boxing Council will hold their annual convention in December, and WBC President Jose Sulaiman considers the convention as the right moment to order that fight for early 2012.

Chavez Jr. (43-0-1, 30 KOs), 25, is already scheduled to defend his title in November, and Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs), 36, will defend his WBC Diamond middleweight title on October 1 against Darren Baker at a venue to be determined. But after those fights, the WBC will require that both champions face each other in the ring.

"That's what the regulations say and that's the position of the WBC. The next defense of each is voluntary, and then the following [fight] is a mandatory, "said Jose Sulaiman, WBC president. The convention would definitely be the right time to order the fight," Sulaiman said.
