It really doesn't matter what ethnicity the guy is, he's not a journalist. It's all opinion with no substance. I'm a journalist, and to assume that sort of responsibility, you have to report. This guy just shoots his mouth off.
And not that it matters, but I'm Mexican, and I respect Pacquiao 100 percent. I think he got gift decisions over Marquez, but the guy has earned his Pound-for-Pound spot. I like the Hitman, but he isn't the better fighter.
This non-writer is belongs in the blogger column. He probably has never seen a newsroom or picked up an AP Style book.
So those who are troubled by his writings...don't be. His "work" is as credible as Mayweather Sr's boasts.
Margarito might be good but i can't pick him since I don't speak spanish so well.. That chin would come in handy though.
Got to admit, i chuckled when i read this. I guess you would need to communicate with someone who gots your back.
And you hit it right on with Wlad. the man's chin isn't great, and if you see any of his fights, he panics whenever a jab grazes his chin. His eyes get all wide.
The first time i saw JMM was against Johnny Walker "Black" on FNF ESPN2. Fight lasted 60 seconds, he was my boy after that, and he's been my favorite fighter since...even when all these haters were questioning his heart. Always in Morales and Barrera's shadow, and i stood by him till the end. Now Marquez is the Man.
Paulie Malinaggi wins this one by tko. The guy is garbage. Everyone gave him way too much credit for the ass-whooping he got from Cotto. But the only thing worse than his fighting ability is his mouth. How can anyone forget that annoying career defining interview after Hatton: "im betta than bein stopped. im betta than that, im betta than that," said Malinaggi, in the most annoying new york accent imaginable.
Hopkins...fighter of the decade. no question. the only person he rivals is roy jones, and even though he lost to jones early in his career, he faced higher quality opponents and lasted well into his 40's. Jones played it safe most of his career and was still ko'd by guys hopkins beat.
Calzaghe also never faced the very best of his era...hopkins did. Easy, the fighter of the decade.
For those who would like to know, tickets go on sale this Saturday, tickets start at $25 and will be televised by SHOWTIME.
Damn bro, thanks for looking out. I live out in the SF Bay Area, we don't get many fights out here. The last card out here was the hbo Kirkland vs Julio one. And tickets look reasonable. Thanks.
Margarito.
I'm Mexican-American, and a die hard boxing fan. I always rooted for Margarito. I love seeing my Mexican fighters triumph. But after the whole wrap business in the Mosley bout, i'm no longer a fan of his. I drove from the SF Bay Area to LA to see his fight with Mosley, and it's probably the most dissapointing fight I've ever seen live. If my fighters lose, i don't mind as long as they went out with dignity. Margarito - allong with the fight - lost his dignity.
I remember Junior Jones and Paul Ingle as a child. It was one helluva fight. Great action througout and a dramatic ending. Been looking for it for years, still cant find it. It was on the undercard of Lennox Lewis vs Michael Grant. If anyone can find it, watch it. It was great.
sorry Eddie Croft (former top featherweight contender, kickboxing champion)
I actually met and wrote a story on Eddie Croft. He went to my junior college years ago. He's a great guy. He's still training fighters out of San Carlos/San Mateo area. Nice to see that someone remembers him. He fought some hall of famers in his day - Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales.
Im from Daly City,Ca. It's a couple miles south of San Francisco. Here's a list of some boxers the Bay Area has produced.
Pat Valentino (San Francisco - fought Ezzard Charles for the Heavyweight title in 1949. He lost by 8th round KO. Also drew twice with former light heavyweight Champ Joey Maxim.)
"Irish" Pat Lawlor (San Francisco - Fought and beat Roberto Duran and Wilfredo Benitez, both of whome were well passed their prime. Notable losses have come to John David Jackson, Terry Norris, Hector Camacho, Joe Calzagh, Vinny Paz and Librado Andrade.
James J. Corbett (San Francisco - Knocked out John L. Sullivan in the 21st round to claim the Heavywieght title in 1892. Was later knocked out by Bob Fitzsimmons for the crown in 1897. He later challened the man Jack Johnson conquered, James Jeffries, in 1900, but lost in the 23rd round. He landed a return bout with Jeffries three years later, but lost in 10 by tko.)
*More to come
I remember reading somewhere that early on in his career, Floyd Sr. from Jail told his sons handlers never to put him in with a southpaw ever again. He's had trouble with Judah and was stunned by demarcus corley, both of whome were southpaws. I've always thought this and i havent seen any evidence to convince me otherwise.
I'm not trying to defend Margarito, but Trinidad was never this scrutinized when his hands were wrapped illegally in the Hopkins fight. None of Tito's previous ko's were ever called into question, especially after he nearly decapitated William Joppy, which was his last fight before Hopkins. Tito is still a hero, Margarito has been disowned...and he should be disowned. But the media has always liked Trinidad, which is why i suspect he was never a target after his "scandal." I just think if your're going to punish a guy, don't give others fair treatment.
Someone else has probably noticed this, but if you go on boxrec.com, they name all the fighters who have fought or held the WBA super championship. In doing this, they have tarnished the great reigns of many terrific fighters. If you look up Eusebio Pedroza's marvelous career for example, it will say that he was the WBA "Ordinary" champion. The "Ordinary" was thrown in there to distinguish it from the "super."
I don't understand why fighters just trash all the titles and just go for the Ring Magazine belt. Ring doesn't charge sanctioning fees like the other bodies, and Ring has never stripped a champion. The major organizions are always coming up with garbage reasons to strip and award other fighters with thier trinkets.
Kessler is saying he is unable to land a big fight with the names he mentioned. Kessler is a good fighter, but so are the other guys. The main reason he can't land a big fight here in the States is because he pulled out of the Edison Miranda fight. He enraged american promoters when he made outrageous demands for the fight (which were met. look it up.) and pulled out anyway. If he can't land a big fight here in America, it's really his own fault.
