We will never know, that is the problem!
You are right, we will never know what the outcome would have been. As Floyd says himself anything can happen in boxing, it only takes one punch.
But all these posters making out Floyd is scared of these guys, the opponents like Baldomir, De La Hoya, Marquez he fought instead are given the 'cherrypick' tag. Whilst all these common opponents are beating each other and going hell for leather, when they face Floyd he makes them look like amatuers, that's not Floyds fault but he gets hate for it, which is not only unjustified, but totally disrespectful to these guys who are world champions in their own right.
I'd laugh by ass off, but that won't happen.
With it being his Showtime debut, he will want something that will capture the immagination of the audience and this would be perfect!
Would just need to make sure he comes away with the 'W' or there would be some serious egg on his face haha!
You say he's fought nobody but that's just plain rubblish! You don't move through 5 weight classes fighting nobodys.
As i said in my original post, BEFORE fights were made everyone would say 'this is the one'.....after he dominates and leaves the ring looking the same as he walked in they say 'He cherrypicked'
Granted the competition in this era, wasnt like it was in the 80's early 90's but to state Floyd winged his career is silly.
And also on your point of fighting only once a year, i think this is a reason to his longevity and more fighters will soon adopt that startegy when looking for a long career.
I think the reason the fight with Pacquiao didn't happen was nothing to do with Floyd and Manny themselves but quite obviously the history between Floyd and Arum. It's a shame how much power the promoters have in the game today but that's just the way it is unfortunately.
I believe now the 'Superfight' has lost its appeal, as you say 3 years ago it should have taken place. They are both not the same fighters as then but still both top of the pile, even with Manny's farcicle loss against Bradley, again which i believe was instigated by Arum. But a loss is a loss and that would just be another excuse if Floyd and Manny finally get in the ring. That is why I say Martinez is now the only fight that Floyd will get full credit for if there was to be one last swansong.
I'm going to look back in some of the threads before the Mosley fight and I am willing to bet u said something about Mosley beating Floyd. I will post it here when I find it.
It is the same before 90% of his fights. He dominates with ease and gets hated on afterwards.
Even if you watch Floyds old fights on youtube, there have been many fights the HBO team have gone against Floyd, Corrales, Hatton and Baldomir being 3. If you think im talking out my arse go check the vids. The guy gets next to near no credit, maybe 20 years from now we'll look back and appreciate what a talent he was.
