Orite, have been following the forum for a while but havn't posted until now.
The problem with Floyd is that he makes it look TOO EASY! he makes his opponents look like amatuer fighters, and this is where all the hate stems from. Floyd is cherrypicking, Floyd is fighting another guy who's over the hill etc. Casual boxing fans love to see toe-to-toe battles and will say 'But Floyd hasn't been in any wars, he cant be deemed as great'...But as Floyd himself says 'There is nothing cool in taking punishment' and why should he, for the fans? If i was in Floyds shoes and had the same talent i'd do the same, and im sure if you are all honest so would you.
When you look back before his fights you never heard any of the excuses....Mosley was going to KO him, Hatton would pressure him and bully him, Corrales was too big and would KO him....the list goes on. After the fight is done it was Floyd cherrypicking. No, the realities are that Floyd is lightyears ahead of any of this generation in talent and skill.
Sure it would have been great if Floyd was in an era with Leonard, Hearns, Chevez Snr, Whittiker but he wasnt and that is something Floyd can do nothing about. He might not have kept his '0' in them era's but you can guaruntee he wouldn't have looked out of place.
I've got laugh when people call him a coward and question his resume, someone who is a 5 weight world champion regardless of who he fought is not a coward. Now, for him to cement his legacy I reckon Martinez has to be the fight he takes and I reckon its a toss-up. Floyds lack of power at 154 could be a major factor in the fight but if he boxes smart he takes a close UD.
The only problem is if he outboxes Martinez , it'll all start again. The reality is folk will want him to keep fighting till he drops his '0' and until then they'll continue to say he's a cherrypicker and a coward, when in reality he was just too good in this era.
(And before i get the usual hate, i am also a massive Pacquiao fan)

We just have different outlooks on that statement.
IMO PBF biggest downfall is himself.
Floyd's biggest downfall is that he didn't fight Manny in 2009 and is sticking around for the sake of his own financial interests instead of trying to fight the best and remain relevant.
This. You can also add the time when he "retired" after Hatton. That's when the problem really started.
I'm going to look back in some of the threads before the Mosley fight and I am willing to bet u said something about Mosley beating Floyd. I will post it here when I find it.
It is the same before 90% of his fights. He dominates with ease and gets hated on afterwards.
Even if you watch Floyds old fights on youtube, there have been many fights the HBO team have gone against Floyd, Corrales, Hatton and Baldomir being 3. If you think im talking out my arse go check the vids. The guy gets next to near no credit, maybe 20 years from now we'll look back and appreciate what a talent he was.

Inventing something doesnt cut it, but as a fully fledged bumsniffing floydiot, something so obvious wouldnt put you off. You wont find something that does not and cannot exist.
before pacquiao floyd was one of my favourite fighter after RJJ and tyson..
But after the castillo fight floyd don't wanna give us the fight we wanted to
see and when we wanna see it..
when pacquiao burst in the scene last 2001 with Ledwaba.
fan's were like Ummmm.
Let's see him fight Barrera after, let see him fight JMm, let see him fight
morales..tune up was larios 1 of the top 10 super feather..
then the Oscar vs pac fight Circus..after DLh got demolished..Nah that was
luck.. i wanna see him fight Hatton Lineal title holder at 140...
after hatton, now let me see him fight a prime 145 Catchweight for no reason cotto...after
that nah..let me see him fight at full 147 lbs clottey...
after clottey it would have been better if he just fought Margarito at 147...
so were not gonna hear that Cw king Bs..then Oh we wanna see him a
young hungry fighter then there's bradley ..dominated him but got robbed..
he just need to step on the plate .. Us fans were the reason they are
rich....
Corrected it for you.
The Hatton fight was his last noteworthy fight and was a great performance. Not everyone said 'this is the one' before his fights since his comeback, I havent been happy with one of them personally, well maybe Cotto, but even he was past his sell by date.
Floyd's comeback has been garbage on the whole. He said he was coming back because he wanted to fight Manny, yet has erected every single barrier possible to ensure that doesnt happen whilst simultaneously fighting once a year against sub par opposition and taking millions out of the sport.
He seems to care about only money, and thats fine as long as you arent claiming to be the best ever, yet not fighting anyone worth fighting and not fighting the guy you came back for.

I never understood folks problem with that statement. Can you tell me why that bothers you?

Floyd Mayweather said he is not fighting to prove who is the best....thats his biggest downfall, cherry picking and not fighting the best and them claiming you are the best

You say he's fought nobody but that's just plain rubblish! You don't move through 5 weight classes fighting nobodys.
As i said in my original post, BEFORE fights were made everyone would say 'this is the one'.....after he dominates and leaves the ring looking the same as he walked in they say 'He cherrypicked'
Granted the competition in this era, wasnt like it was in the 80's early 90's but to state Floyd winged his career is silly.
And also on your point of fighting only once a year, i think this is a reason to his longevity and more fighters will soon adopt that startegy when looking for a long career.

I think the reason the fight with Pacquiao didn't happen was nothing to do with Floyd and Manny themselves but quite obviously the history between Floyd and Arum. It's a shame how much power the promoters have in the game today but that's just the way it is unfortunately.
I believe now the 'Superfight' has lost its appeal, as you say 3 years ago it should have taken place. They are both not the same fighters as then but still both top of the pile, even with Manny's farcicle loss against Bradley, again which i believe was instigated by Arum. But a loss is a loss and that would just be another excuse if Floyd and Manny finally get in the ring. That is why I say Martinez is now the only fight that Floyd will get full credit for if there was to be one last swansong.
That's Floyd's excuse for not wanting to get in the ring now.

Strongly disagree. The reason the overwhelming majority of boxing fans dont like him is because he talks too much and fights too little. This is a guy that fights once a year against not great opposition and has the nerve to call himself better than Ali, Robinson etc.
He gives nothing to the fans and nothing to the sport that is any good. Fighters like Floyd only seem to do damage to the sport and its image.
All take, no give and thats why he is often rightly derided.

Nah the hate comes from his trash talk and the fact that he's the biggest star in boxing. If he dominates that means he handpicked a crappy opponent, if he struggles then that means he's not so great after all. It's a catch-22.
