Pretty fitting to be playing it now
My grandma has actual VHS and BETA Max footage from the event....how do you wonder...her husband, my grandpa, at that time was the Chief of Police for Manila, and was actually in charge of putting together a "non-corrupt" group of officers to be Mr. Ali's security. One of the greatest feelings of pride in my life came when I saw the footage of Ali walking/jogging from his dressing room with his gloves resting on the shoulders of my grandpa....
ur saying delahoya was drained coz pacman beat delahoya badly. Pacman also shut out, tko, destroyed Cotto, mosley, clotey, margarito. I guess they were all severely drained too right?
Even nacho beristain said delahoya was fine. Pacquuio was just too fast for him.
They all ate the same spinach balls DLH had in training camp....:boxing:
What fighter(s) would you have loved to see fight in this era and specifically why?
Ali vs the Klits....obvious reasons
Prime Roy Jr. (SMW) vs Andre Ward....Relfexes and athleticism vs. all-around fighter
JCC Sr. (140lbs) vs. Pacquiao (140lb)...Guaranteed action
Tito Trinidad (147lbs) vs Mayweather (147lbs)....Would like to see if Floyd could keep Tito off him for 12 rounds.
Zarate (118lbs) vs Donaire (118lbs)......little guys can fight too right?
i think it's more like saying "i hate san antonio because they're boring". it may not make sense to you but other people prefer offense rather than defense.
Yeah...you could say that....
And personally...I love the **** out of the Spurs....they are proof Fundamentals wins on a consistent basis...minimal flash + hard work = 16 seasons of 50+ wins in the last 20 yrs. Even the Lakers can't say that....(Sorry Mak)
it's not that, it's just I kinda' don't understand it when people say he's the most exciting fighter or whatever. and i guess he is exciting...because i can't say he's boring. but a lot of people i talk to like him for that reason alone. i mean, yeah, we need that element in the sport..but if that's all you're going off on i think your argument is invalid. there's too much hype sometimes around certain boxers which in turn doesn't allow others to shine..others who downright deserve too. that's all i'm saying. we should appreciate other things just as much.
that's all..
Getting back to this rebuttle....
Why do people like Lebron James? He hasn't won shit....has always failed on the biggest stages...gets paid a ton of money...yet by basketball standards...is fundamentally horrible. Yet people flock to him and pay some dam good money (82 games a year) to see him dunk on fools, hit buzzer beaters and block shots from behind....why...BECAUSE HE IS EXCITING.
Has nothing to do with boxing...but the comparison is similar to your reasoning about the "Exciting being the only factor"

His record during the decade was 23-1-2 (20KOs). Now whether those wins and kos came against aging fighters, past prime fighters, prime fighters, shot fighters or whatever fighters.....Pacquiao was the underdog in the majority of those fights....and only recently the betting favorite....yet he performed above what his doubters and critics stated.
Exciting fighter yes....technically flawed yes....answered your poll and gave reasons why....yes.
16 titles
3 sets of back to backs...something the Spurs couldn't do once
dont be sorry....
I was wondering how long it would take you to get in here after turning on the "Bat Signal".....
Can't deny the Lakers are probably the greatest Dynasty (Pacquiao = Lakers / Floyd = Celtics....like that one?)
Game 7 had us shitting bricks....especially after Ron Ron hit that 3 in the 4th.
I tried to make it down to LA for the riots...needed a plasma.
just as i think it's silly to like pacquiao solely because he's exciting, don't you think it's silly to hate mayweather because he's too technical? or are you the type that purely watches action movies because you need huge explosions every few minutes to keep your attention?
again, just saying, he get's too many points for just hopping around a lot and throwing a million punches. there's more to the sport than hoping and expecting a KO.
oh and lets not go into why pac has the adoration of his fans. please, let's not.
Who the hell hates a boxer who is "too technical"? That's like saying I hate Michael Jordan because he won 6 rings....just doesn't make sense....or just PURE HATE.
I just heard in the news Mexico lost to Uruguay. (0 - 1) and France lost to South Africa.
Daym....Mexico Loss is a shocker....not surprised at France losing, their team went to shit.
please, due tell.
Exciting fighter, gives fans what they want to see (or tries anyway), a breath of fresh air from the norm (asian fighter) and has shown infinite improvement
i cant even tell u, basketball sucks. i just know that the spurs are boring and the suns run up and down the court all night. the nba is super rigged.
Co-sign....they were pushing Kobe vs Lebron so bad this year for the Finals....that diddn't happen so they rigged the Orlando / Boston series for the next best thing (business and ratings wise).
My take -
For Floyd to win.....he needs to stay defensive the WHOLE time....Pacquiao will be looking for any type of openings to put a dent in that armor (a'la Clottey).... Counter Manny's right hooks with his own Straight Right over the top....tie Manny up when he gets too close, but be wary of Manny's uppercuts/hooks to the body....keep the fight close to the ropes, if Floyd keeps his back to the ropes, he can catch Manny coming in, while Manny is throwing punches to his body or tie him up and turn him.
For Manny to win....Keep the fight in the middle of the ring, keep the distance between them to mid range (dart in and out), jab to Floyd's body coming in and shoot that laser left to the head, followed by a combo of choice (3-4 punches) and get out.....keep the workrate at 70-80 punches per round, MAKING Floyd counter those punches....turn Floyd when throwing the right hook.....LISTEN TO ROACH BETWEEN ROUNDS.
Other things....
1) Will Floyd be able to HURT Manny?
2) Will Roach / Manny be able to "counter-adapt" once Floyd adapts to Manny?
3) Whose footwork will be quick enough to let that fighter plant just long enough for that bomb?
great example, mayweather is the spurs and pacquiao is like the suns. what team would u rather watch???
I'd love to see them face each other in a Playoff setting...no excuses...oh wait they did....what happened again????
:lol1:
That did not happen, he used angles and was right in front of him the whole time using mostly upper body movement.
He even backed Glen up a few times in the fight.
Chad did box more effectively....but there was this "aura of fear" (or maybe it was caution) that night coming from Chad...credit though...he stuck with the gameplan and got a W.
I think old man Glen pulls it off, he will take the totally untested and unproven Cloud to places he has never been mentally and physically.
Whether he is ready to go there we will see, but the notion of him being a real challenge for Dawson based on anything he has done at this time is laughable and a product of nothing but imagination.
Funny thing is...the only fighter capable of giving Chad all he can handle....isn't even in the LHW division.....he's a SMW...and his name is Andre Ward......
I wouldn't be surprised one bit. I don't see whats so great about Cloud. I think the fact that there's nobody at that class makes him appear to be better than he is. Like a big fish in a dried up pond.
If Johnson was 2 years younger, I wouldn't even hesitate.
Clouds only hope is that Glen is old as **** now. And it still might not be enough.
Few things are certain in life....water is blue, crack is wack and Glen Johnson does not age.
Dang, I was at the staples yesterday for the game... They showed Flioyd and the crowd booed and started chanting Pacquiao, Pacquiao, Pacquiao!!! That sucked for Floyd
Ouch....should've busted out the camera phone and uploaded....wonder if Mak can verify.....more than likely he was there too....
Paulie has been in there with some hard hitters....Cotto, Hatton, Khan.....and none of those guys was even able to "buckle" Paulie.....he's my p4p best chin pick as well....
I would give Pacquiao an Honorable Mention....fought the 3 amigos, never went down and never SERIOUSLY HURT.....Cotto gave him hell, walked thru and actually welcomed the punches.....was letting Clottey hit him and diddn't even buckle.....
Interesting takes....
regarding Cotto beating P-Willy: P-Willy took some hard shots against Martinez...I doubt that Cotto has more boxing ability and power than Sergio...but we'll have to wait and see.
regarding Cotto beating Kirkland: I will say that Kirkland hasn't been TRULY TESTED yet...but hey...the man has been in prison for the last what...12months? JrMW division is just getting heated up for his return...
regarding El Perro beating Cotto: I doubt El Perro walks thru Cotto's punches and walk Cotto down the same manner in which Margarito did. Cintron showed that a jab is key to slowing down Angulo.
Ever since he fought Malignaggi, people have been going nuts about him!
Are people forgetting that he got KTFO by an unknown club fighter?
This guy will exposed once again, when he faces a decent puncher. Until then, you're all welcome to join my army of Foremaniacs and appreciate a TRUE rising star. :fing02:
Love how you blast Khan....yet are all over Yuri's nuts....
Let's see...Khan was KOd by Prescott...yet is now under the tutelage of Roach....obviously Roach sees something in Khan, GBP has Khan under their banner, so GBP sees something in Khan.....what you choose to remember and hold onto is that he was caught with a lucky shot. Give Khan a few more fights, and he'll be unifying the JrWW division....
Now onto to Foreman....what fights have you seen other than the Santos fight to classify Foreman as a "rising star"? He has very good boxing instincts, good technique and good stamina.....has HE been tested yet? No....Yuri actually reminds me of a JrMW Paulie.....virtually identical stats....
I fear the same. Cotto's not that big, people made him out to be a big welter, when he's not. Margarito, Clottey, Cintron, even Quintana were bigger.
Cotto, IMO, was a avg. sized WW......Marg, Clottey, Cintron even Quintana could campaign EASILY in the JrMW division.....BUT bigger doesn't mean better....the old addage "A Good Big Man beats a Good Little Man" gets thrown out the window here.....
Cotto was outboxing Margarito (not hurting him) for the better part of 6 rounds...plaster or not...Cotto gassed out....and plaster doesn't help your chin.
Against Clottey...Cotto again gassed out in the later rounds, and was fighting with that bad cut....and was still able to pull out the W.
Cotto already beat Quintana.....
Cintron would be a hard fight...tall, lanky, decent jab...but knowing that Cintron gasses out himself in the later rounds, it comes down to heart with these two.
