To anyone who belives that Danny Williams has the ability to be in with the big time Heavyweights just look at the Sinan Samil Sam fight for the European Heavyweight title in 2003. Where he got knocked down humiliated and stopped in the 6th, by a fighter now just ranked in the top ten of a very poor division.
This would be great to see, Calzaghie really needs to fight someone decent, and Clinton really deserves a big payday, which he would get against Joe. However with Calzaghie i remain sceptical of him fighting till he is actually in the ring, i just hope this won't turn out like the Glen Johnson fight which was delayed and then cancelled.
I hate to say it seen as im a Tito fan and wanted to see him K.O Delahoya in this fight, but i think Delahoya won a close decision. I remeber loosing a lot of respect for him after seeing his performance in the last 3 rounds though.
I dont believe that Gatti would pull out of a fight either, however i can believe that main events put lots of pressure on him not to fight Floyd as they feel they can make more money by carrying on his title run.
The fight i really want to see is Mayweather against the winner of Hatton/Tszyu, which would truly sort out who is the best at 140.
I find this quite surprising, as if Floyd really wants to become a superstar as he keeps saying, he needs fights that will make him known to the mainstream. Therefore a fight with Gatti more than anyone else at 140 (except maybe Kosta) will give him more media covererage.
Is there another reason other than money as to why he's not taking the fight. Do u think he's actually scared of fighting Gatti?
I think he'll just have to fight a nobody in summer and then wait for the winner of Hatton and Tszyu. Unless he decides to move up to 147 where there are more options open to him.
I remember hearing something like this story before that Tyson didnt want to fight Foreman, however in my opinion i think he was too powerfull for a 40 year old Foreman, especially in his peak.
It did seem a bit suspicious that the trainer was asking for the bottle he specifically mixed because you wouldn't mix water with water as it says on the Legendary Nights programme.
However Pryor was willing to take a rematch with Arguello in which he beat him up worse and finished the fight earlier than in the first, so it doesnt seem as though he needed whatever the solution was.
At 140 i only see Mayweather with a chance of beating Tszyu, however at 147 Judah, Mosley and Delahoya would all have a good shot. Even though i am from Manchester i still hold little to no hope for Hatton in the summer.
I hope Calzaghie fights either Lacy or moves up to challenge Johnson, Tarver, Woods or even a rematch with Reid (however we all know thats not going to happen)this year.
He really needs to make a move, after his series of one sided title defences people are beggining to consider him a joke.
Im looking forward to this, its good to see a champion taking on the main challengers to their title. I hope if Hopkins wins this he will fight the winner of Trinidad/Wright to really cement his position as the best Middleweight in the World.
Out of the two id have to say Foreman as the only time Ali looked as though he was in any trouble at all against Liston was when he claimed he couldnt see during the first fight, the knockout in the second also looked very dubious, the fight had barley started.
Overall though i dont think there is any question that Fraizer pushed him to the limit like no one else at the time could.
I definatley agree with Ruiz and Byrd being the most boring champions around today. Hopkins is not that bad however if Hopkins Vs Winky is signed i won't be dying to see that one.
Kosta did look very dejected and usualy once fighters begin to talk of retirement it's not usualy long till they actually do so. I think he will most likely retire now, however id still be interested to see a rematch perhaps on neutral ground in the US.
Im really glad that this fight is finally on, Gatti deserves his big payday and Floyd needs to impress in this fight to bring in a mega fight at 147 with Delahoya.
Do you think that this will be Gatti's last fight, presuming he looses?
Gatti is a crowd favourite and as such a fight with him would raise Mayweathers public profile. This would set him up for a big fight with the winner of Tszyu/Hatton or even fights at 147 with Delahoya, Mosley or Judah. This is why i find it strange that it was due to Floyd that the Gatti fight fell through.
I dont think that Taylor is quite ready for Hopkins yet, Hopkins should take the fight against Taylor and then possibly the winner of Trindad/Wright and then retire, however he seems to be after Sturm. He has allready said that he would not fight past his 40th Birthday (which is in January) so that would probably allow for another two possibly 3 fights.
Im really glad that this fight is back on, June will be a really big month in the Light Welter division. However it could just as easily fall through again but i remain optimistic.
Theres some pretty big fights coming up soon, im most looking forward to Pacquaio Vs Morrales, as well Trinidad Vs Wright, Castillio Vs Casamayor and Gatti Vs Mayweather.
I would have liked to see Amir as an Amateur for a while longer, at least until after the world championships. He is still very young and there is no need for him to have turned pro as soon as he has, after the next Olympics he would still have only been 21. However he's with Frank Warren and you can hardly say that he's known for overmatching his fighters so im sure Amir will be eased in on a slow learning curve, just hope the public don't loose interest in him like they did with Audley, by the way whats happened to him now? It'll be interesting to see how Amir develops as a pro.
In their prime i think it would be one of the easiest UD's in Roy's career Tito is just way too one dimesional for Roy. Tito always has a punchers chance but i don't think that Roy would even let him get close to landing a big shot. Tito at 160 also dosn't look that strong and looks smaller than a lot of the natural middleweights so at 168 im not sure he would be able to do much at all.
Id have to go for Calzaghe purley based on the the fights both of them have had with Omar Sheika where Lacy boxed to a comfortable descision victory while Calzaghe knocked him out. The only thing that may cost Joe is years of fighting lower level opposition which has made him sloppy, however i gotta belive he'd be up for this one and get the win.
Theres no denying that all 3 are great fighters but to rank them in order i'd have to say
RJJ (IMO until the 2nd Tarver fight he was the best P4P for a decade)
DLH (Purely for the fact hes a great boxer)
Tito (Allthough he's a great fighter and one of my favourite fighters he's just too one dimensional and can't compete with a good boxer)
Lacy is just way to big for Trinidad, he has good power and a great chin. Im not even that sure that Tito is that powerful at 160 so at 168 i don't think he would be able to do much damage, especially not to someone with a chin as good as Lacy's. Lacy weould knock him out at some point preferably sooner rather than later then Tito dosn't take as much punishment.
The reason no one wants to fight Byrd is cause he's not a big draw and very awkward to fight. Pretty much the same reason that Winky was avoided for so long by many top fighters.
If Hatton wins then i'd expext him to meet the winner of Mayweather/Gatti sometime later in the year in a big PPV showdown. I think that its very likely that we will see the winners of both fights (most likely Mayweather and Tszyu) and the loosers of both fights fighting each other later in the year. However this all depends on TV companies and weather Hatton would be willing to go to America.
I would like to see open scoring however it would probably ruin the suspense if it was done every round. Maybe they could announce the scores after 4 rounds and then again after the 8th and not again till the end. Or perhaps just to announce them half way through the fight. However im not so sure it would reduce corruption as we see the full score cards anyway which are usualy discussed in depth after the fight especially in close fights.
