really? never heard of this fight how did he fight him?
it was at the garden, jones was a good fighter with a decievingly patchy record. clay got hurt in the first from a right hand, hurt jones in the second, and after failing to stop jones in the forth (as he had predicted) jones came on and won the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth rounds. clay dug his heels in in the nineth and tenth to win a close decision 5-4, 1 even. it was'nt a popular decision and there was debris thrown into the ring afterwards. jones wanted a rematch but never got one.
Didn't Ali himself said that his third with Frazier was the toughest fight of his life, he gave everything he had and if Frazier didn't quit in the 14th he had no gas left in the tank?
Did I heard that or it was just a dream?
yes your right mann
the George Foreman was also a tough fight, but ali pulled it off

Exactly (beside Frazier didin't want to quit but his traineer gave up the fight), that should cut off any further speculations.

the liston and foreman fights were not ali's hardest fights. the guy who gave him the most trouble was doug jones, who he fought in 1963, cassius clay (as he was then) barely escaped with a 10 round decision.

I thought it was Antonio Inoki! It was his most frustrating fight and almost bored him to death:p Seriously, there was more to it than being an early MMA spectacle. Ali scouted Inoki a few days before the fight, and got scared as hell when he saw the grappling that Inoki was doing. :boxing:
Is it the reading or understanding what you have read that is the problem here? I have backed up my opinion each and every time I have responded tough guy.........
you criticise me and my list,
and you have yet to formulate a better one. That is all I am saying.

It is hard to trust your credibility when you do not have the balls to defend a fighter.
and all you do is rip them apart. There are many people like you on these forums, easy to talk smack.
Get worried when they have to back it up.
Post your "supposed" list of heavies that outweighs mine, and will not be "rejected" like you say.

with all do respect, I was responding to your statement of Liston and Foreman being paper champions. If you would like to divert my question with a thoughtless jab, then I would like to drop a right hand over that thoughtless poke and ask you, how are Liston and Foreman paper champions.........Rockin'
I don't usually give history lessons.....
Other than beating a scared to death Floyd Patterson to win the title, who did Liston beat? No one. Other than his title defense againt a still scared to death Patterson, how many defenses did Liston make? None. After the second loss to Ali did Liston was basically never heard from again.
Foremans career looks alot like Listons. Big win over Frazier, great win over Frazier. After that?
Slip your lazy right, land devestating left hook and still champion!

To Mike Hunt
Yeah, Liston and Foreman only paper champs? dude, I dont believe that you have any clue as to what you are saying. Foreman wins the gold at the olympics ko's frazier. Ya, you may be right, he only looks tough on paper, lmao And Liston, that guy was feared by everybody, he was a murderous puncher. But i suppose that liston could not even punch through the paper that his title was fabricated on. Get real dude...Rockin'
The question was who gave Ali the hardest fight, I said neither.
Liston quit on Ali in the first fight and may have taken a dive in the second fight. Real impressive, whos clueless?
Did I hurt your feelings or can't anyone have a different opinion than yours?

Would you like to name some heavyweights who are not either:
"chumps". or "Paper Champions".
I cant wait to see Tyson's name in the list. A true paper champion at its finest.

Who did Liston ever beat? A scared Floyd Patterson twice? One title defense for Liston, two at the most? After his lose to Ali Liston was basically never heard from again.
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting to be labeled great.
Neither one.....He exposed those chumps as paper champions.

who gave Ali a hardes Fight
Liston
or
Foreman
Neither one.....He exposed those chumps as paper champions. Ali's hardest fight was clearly the first Frazier fight. Called simply 'The Fight' it lived up to the hype and has with stood the test of time.
Liston didn't really compete...
Foreman gave him a tough one, but Ali knew what he had to do to win...
Frazier is the winner here...Ali just had to fight it out with him in three tough fights...Lost the first one, won the second, the 3rd was pretty much even until the final rounds...
