Come on, guys. I tried to tell you this was Hopkins' next fight. It simply HAD to be given the options available and just by listening to Bernard talk.
This was easy to see and should surprise no one. No one else is ready to fight until late in the year.
I also think Taylor has a very good chance in this fight...60/40 in favor of Hopkins.
Wow. I nearly fell over the chair when I read this. Too soon for Taylor but how can you pass up a shot to be undisputed champ of the world? Win or loose it's great for his experience and WHEN he looses, he'll come out a better fighter. Ah man if he proves me wrong, pffffffffff
Hopkins finds a way to avoid a revenging Tito!
I knew it! Hopkins has found a win / win scenario in a landscape filled with looming risks.
If Hopkins were to fight Tito in a rematch, and lost, he loses his legacy (as it was built on the Tito win).
If he fights Johnson, Tarver or Calzaghe and loses, he blows his legacy based on the fact that he avoided deeper waters visited by his contemporaries, in favour of bullying welterweights coming up. Like some kind of mutant who's been held back a few years in school, but still expects respect for beating up his class mates.
If he fought Sturm, and lost, he loses his legacy based on the fact that Sturm was beaten by De La Hoya, who was beaten by Trinidad (Tito = Hopkins legacy, you get it).
If he fights Taylor, and loses, everybody gets to usher in a good looking, young, American world champion. Hopkins, keeps his legacy on the age difference as well as the need for new blood in a sport going stale. Most importantly, it means Hopkins isn't obligated to fight Trinidad again.
It all makes sense now!
P.S. Just kidding :D
They don't care who he beats, they care about how he beats them. Not too many people like the performance he puts on in his fights, so they're always going to hate on him..
So, will Hopkins receive more credibility after Taylor fight than he got winning with Eastman?
Probably not. Everybody will be talking about how Taylor can win but if Hopkins beats him easy then the same people will turn around and say that Taylor wasn't ready which he isn't.

After ko'ing Tito, I'm not sure Hopkins has a credibility issue.
I think Hopkins will win on points but i suspect Taylor may make him work for it. I`m very surprised this fight is happening as now Hop has 20 defences why fight this guy. i mean, yeah Taylor is probable regarding the second best middleweight and the only person apart from Sturm that Hopkins hasn`t battered but really, a pointless excercise!
Hopkins by dec! Something like 116 - 112!
Bernard Hopkins is doing the right thing. The boxing community continues to talk about how good Taylor is, so Hopkins is saying I am so great I can even beat young and hungry stars at 40 years old. I can't wait for the fight. :boxing:
Prediction: Bernard Hopkins by a close UD.

Bernard Hopkins is going to make him look normal. Taylor is going to make a terrible mistake through the early and middle rounds, which is, not pressing the action enough, and Bernard is going to make him look foolish. In the later rounds, a tired Taylor is going to try to pull something off, and Bernard Hopkins is going to drop him on his way to a comfortable decision.. 118-110

Im looking forward to this, its good to see a champion taking on the main challengers to their title. I hope if Hopkins wins this he will fight the winner of Trinidad/Wright to really cement his position as the best Middleweight in the World.
There might be some talk about Taylor being "naturally" bigger. I do not think that will be a factor in the fight. Hopkins is far too slick, and will slip Taylor's jab and counter with hooks. At first glance, one might think Taylor will want to keep B-Hop in the center of the ring; I however do not believe this. Taylor's only shot at winning this fight, is to let his hands go and be the agressor against Bernard. Even at that point, he is playing with fire. I do not feel Taylor is ready to fight B-Hop at this point, and needs at least 2 tune ups. Hopkins would win by either late knockout, or decision.

THIS IS GREAT :fing02: , Bernard is going to fight the guy we all think can be the next great middleweight. Bernard is not running from challenges this year, if he beats Taylor that would be incredible.
hopkins will win. the kid ain't ready. if he moves back in a straight line like he did against edourd he'll be in trouble.
i agree. at 40, Hopkins has shown cracks in his "armor", but Taylor hasnt shown he has even developed "armor" yet. By armor I mean how airtight their skills are, Taylor does many things well, but if he does move straight back (God forbid, into the ropes) Jermain will be in a lot of trouble.
