Who would brag about having a fiance that is not only a stripper, but cheated on you as well? Well over 100 people probably already hit that and he is bragging about it on the internet? I swear i think hes seriously joking now. Think about it, how can you take someone seriously that wants to go into MMA and when they tried to box, they was knocked out by a fighter that only had 1 win, 13 losses and all 13 by knockout.
haha good post!
He's 2-3 in his last five, with one of those wins against someone fighting up three weight classes.
which is why he maybe shouldn't be looking to take on one of the top contenders but looking to erase memories of the 3. he's still good enough to easily deal with most in the division.
I don't know if people are taking what is said on the internet too seriously. Most of the crap that is talked about other races/nations/religions comes from silly kids who don't know better, or is done in an attempt to wind people up and create banter. No doubt it sometimes goes too far but rivalries are what make sports great. The atmosphere at Cotto-Margarito for example will be 10 yimes better due to the clash of 2 great fighting cultures who have had a historic rivalry.
haha - bhops charm is his complete disregard for class. hes a tru philly cat. philly's the only place where they keep a judge for improptu court hearings in the football stadium, where they also frequently have "asshole" chants for opposing teams and cheer on-field injuries to opposing players, its the murder capital of the us - overall and by gunshot. its gritty, filthy, tough and reflective of b-hop as the streets are what molded him into the survivalist phenom that he is. b-hop should come home to philly where his complete lack of respect for his opponents is part of what makes him so appreciated. i would really love for him to get the home-coming and support that has often eluded him but that his legendary career deserves...
Why didn't he get all this support from his fans in Philly for the Calzaghe fight? Would he definately be able to get a big turnout for a sort of farewell fight? Genuine question, just asking because here in the UK the media portrays him as having few fans due to his boring style.
Yeah maybe he should have a retirement fight against a second-tier opponent. But TV spots are hard to come by. Nard doesn't want to train to make a few hundred thousand on an ESPN fight. And HBO are not paying for anything other than a fight with a top guy.
That's a fair point, but at the moment he doesn't even appear to be trying to set anything up. I'm sure he could sell a Tito rematch or even something like a Clinton Woods fight, to show Tarver how it should be done and create another USA-GB fight which could sell.
I'll take that
and you can be sure Woods would take it like a flash, it would certainly be his last chance of a big money fight...
I'm sure the fight would sell with the USA-GB and Hopkins vs another 'white boy'.
philly cats dont have money to fly to vegas. the pound is extra strong right now and makes it easier for brits to fly here.
at the same town, english and welsh fans are much more hardcore than american fans imo- at least on the grand scale. for instance, the mayweather fight seemed like it was in manchester there were so many manchunians there!
bernard's style (especially post-tito) has made it harder to gain fans since he is not a volume puncher or ko specialist. it takes a true fan of the sweet science to get and appreciate his style, especially since after Tito he didn't really produce the devestating breakdowns of fighters that used to end careers like the promising Joe Lipsey...
I'm fairly sure that a flight from Wales to Vegas is still going to cost a lot more than it is from Philly! You're right it takes a true boxing purist to appreciate Hopkins and he can't count on the hardcore support of the British so unless there are tens of thousands of knowledgable boxing purists amongst these mean streets of Philly (which i would doubt) I guess he would be struggling.
I think Joe is the better fighter but Lewis maybe accomplished more.
Ryno is correct in mentioning Wilde though, perhaps the only Brit with legit claims on being the all time best in his division.
The Prince won't come back. He'd need to make a huge effort to shift the lbs and he has plenty of money and doesn't need to. He'd only be able to make it back to British, maybe European/Commonwealth standard so what would be his motivation?
Might not be a bad move, he does seem a little bit porky at cruiser and if he could keep his punching power he'd be a dangerous proposition for any LH although I'd worry about his lack of speed seeing him consistantly outboxed.
Calzghe's hands are completely fragile thee days, he's not past his prime in terms of speed and he has improved as a tactical fighter massively in recent years but his power is massively diminshed.
I think this would be very close as i think Winky actually beat Hopkins. However it would be a very ugly fight and I'm glad there's no chance of it happening.
I want Margs, and any other fighter to make as much as they can in this game since they do not receive a pension. People called Floyd a coward, and for what? You see my point?
Floyd did not take on the main contenders at welter, that's a fact. I think anyone who calls a pro boxer a coward over the internet is a bit of an idiot but it does remain a fact.
Granted Margs is not taking on his main contender in his next fight but Clottey is still a decent contender and unless Margs goes through all of 09 without going for Williams it's far too early to be criticising him.
Good post, I can ride with that. But isn't it comical how Margs fan are justifying how less of a fighter Williams is and even say he is begging Margs? True fans aren't questioning Margs, it's fans questioning Margs fans logic. The thread starter is a Cotto fan so go figure lol. I'm all for Margs getting a pay day. What if that payday is less than the 4 mil Goosen offered Margs. Hmmmmmmm...
Is that 4m going to go away though?
No it isn't and it can only get bigger if they both keep winning, whilst picking up even more along the way.
If we're sitting here in a years time and there's no signs of the fight happenin ghten we can start to question Margarito.
I will definitely be watching, maybe on a stream or maybe I'll download the next day. I don't think its on Brit TV, but I wanna see the fight.
think it's on Setanta abadger.
I love you too.
I'm actually really looking forward to this fight, its one of the best style contrasts you could ask for, plus its a rematch. The first fight was close enough to merit the rematch and to be honest I could see either guy winning. Calderon can clearly be hurt and Cazares should be more comfortable at the weight this time, but so should Calderon, so it should be a good one. Basically I think Calderon has the class to prevail but that if he got caught even a bit more than Cazares could easily get the victory. Just the kind of fight I like.
good assesment, but isn't Cazares having problems making weight again?
Why would you want to see a Shane-Margs fight anyway eben if it was only a pay day. Would you order tha ppv?
I'm not advocating that fight, just trying to look at how Marg might see a lot more than 4m coming his way if he holds tight and doesn't risk it all against Williams straight away.
I do hope the fight happens some time next year and I think it will.
What if the next fight is for less than 4 mil? Anything thing can happen. Margs could lose to Clottey and Williams can lose...The thing is Margs can lose to Williams again, and still make money. Shane did, Dlh did, many fighters have.
then if that happened he'd have made the wrong decision but we'll see. I think. I think he beats Clottey for a fairly decent pay day then either goes for Mosley (as you say) which would probably be for a lot more and if he were to take Williams and the 4m now and lose that would ruin the Mosley fights chances of happening (or being so big) then he can always go back and look at Williams after Mosley if he wants.
Joe Calzaghe-
Possibly the best fighter to come out of GB. Simply because of his style, trainer and love for the sport. However after 10 years of fighting bums, hes using his win against Jeff Lacy (which got him in the spotlight) to fight hasbeens and maybes. Don't get me wrong, people will always discredit his wins, Jeff at the time would destroy Joe? But now he was a bum and always was a bum. Bernard Hopkins would annhilate him, but now hes just an old man hasbeen... Joe imo is not no 2 lb for lb material, he to me is ranked 5 - 10. He still has a lot to prove into he retires, retiring undefeated is not as important as enchacing your legacy IMO. His slapping style gets criticised a lot, but it can't be all that bad to win 45 fights against some top competition. Like I said, people will always discredit his wins: "Fight Jeff Lacy hes the new Mike Tyson", Joe does so "WTF Jeff was an over-rated bum". Then the same for Mikkel kessler being an over-rated euro bum and Hopkins being an old man. Hopefully he beats Pavlik to enchance his legacy, but people will prob have a reason to discredit that.
.
You've kind of overated him and underated him almost in the same breath. Joe is the best we have of the current crop and perhaps the modern era (close with Lewis and Hamed) but there have been plenty better.
Not worth top 5 p4p? 10 years a champion, cleaned out his division and linear champion at 2 weights? And all at 36. In my view that's the best out there other than Pac Man so 2 is the correct spot.
You are right. I just thought that he would want revenge first rather than fight a man he beat lol. Nobody is calling Margs a chump. If he thinks he can make more fighting Clottey, and you guys never cared about titles until now because Margs is champ, fans are asking why he isn't fighting Williams. Did Margs fans think that Williams fans, and fans in general would be quiet on this topic? lol
Firstly, I'm not a Margarito fan at all, just giving my view as a boxing fan.
I agree with you Margarito - Williams is a much more appealing contest, but it doesn't have to happen straight away. Why not fight in 2009 with them both having picked up another win or two, building the hype, giving both a couple of paydays (remember Marg has just been through an extremely tough bout with Cotto so is entitled to a break from superfights) and then making it more of an event when they do meet.
Patience, I'm sure it will happen!
