Arum really needs to retire and let the younger generation do the talking. I'm not sure why he's still working. The guy is filthy rich and is 80. He must crave attention.
Definitely the May/Cotto fight was better IMO. It felt like Pacquiao slacked off this fight because he didn't respect Bradley's abilities as much. I think if Bradley actually had some power Pacqiao would put a bit more effort into it.
Boxing needs to go high tech. What they need is to implant the gloves with accelerometers and contact detection. Boxers will whine about the gloves feeling different. But I'm sure they can make it in a way to be unintrusive.
They can also set up special cameras to do hand and body tracking like with XBox Kinect. Would make things interesting. Then they can reuse the data to make videos more realistic. :)
Although I believe it's plausible that Arum set everything up. And it does look like it was a win/win situation for both of his fighters. But do people really believe he has this much power? Don't you think the FBI or whatever would be on to him in such an obvious scam? It's not like LV is still run by the mobs (or is it)....
People seem to forget the two basic formulas of punching (or any other impact):
Kinetic Energy = 1/2 Mass x Velocity^2 (squared)
Force = Mass x Acceleration
Look especially at kinetic energy. You get a lot more results by increasing your speed than your mass.
That's ironic.....Manny's camp wanting to have anyone tested before a fight is laughable. 7 days before and a day after should be good enough. Right?
Except they actually had some evidence for the request and not just baseless conjecture...
Dumbass divisions were put in place to protect the health of fighters. I know some of you guys are obsessed with Pac because you believe him to be superman or super drug man whatever. But if Pac is hospitalized or put in a coma ...I bet you will all rethink this. Why do you think this does not happen regularly? Not because fighters are cowards but because its not allowed for most. You ask Allowed?
Well commissions are not creating belts for weight classes in between weights and allowing fighters to win divisions in that class. Only for Pac.
And the only thing dummies see is...HE DA MAN...lol
Many fighters would do the same thing given the opportunities.
So then if Pacquiao manages to stop Margarito you will have to admit he's a real badass to be able to take on someone that can potentially put him in a coma :lol1:
Ok mr Alt with four posts..lol
YOur dumb or just dont know the sport if you believe that every heavier fighter beats every lighter fighter or vice versa. Spare me the dumbness.
:haha: Are you too dumb to realize I was replying to your exaggeration about Pac ending up in a coma ;)
Also I'm not an alt. I just don't spend my days posting on a message board.
I don't think Bradley is just talking about the commentary but the fact that the crowd was cheering everything little thing Pac did and ignored stuff he did. Which is somewhat the truth. But I still thought he lost by a small margin.
the agreed upon 5mil fine will limit liability because it's agreed to for a fail test which will cancel fight you can't then turn around sue for something you already agreed to be payed for.......
No that's not how it works... unless there is more to this agreement than stated in the article, the fine would only be imposed on the failed test for each fighter. Lost revenues from a cancelled fight would be a battle between TMT/TopRank/HBO/Showtime. In no way would the fine have any bearing on how much damage they can sue for. Additionally it would have no bearing on what any boxing commissions can penalize the boxer for.
30 million???.......i thought it was 40 million.....you can tell when these threads are written by one of scumbag bob's fluffers because just like their mentor they can't get the lie right
Errr... you can tell when people are just blindly defending floyd at all cost regardless of what the truth is...
"If I offered him $30 million, he should be happy," Mayweather said. "If I offered him $30 million and I didn't give money on the back end, why should I? He's with Arum right now, and they're having problems. It's obvious he must not be getting money on the back end."
espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/7626619/floyd-mayweather-jr-says-manny-pacquiao-not-one-sharpest-not-getting-50-50-split
Here's both sides of the story
Most likely if there is a positive result for PED's, this fight would get cancelled.
Pacman:
Pacquiao is guaranteed $80 million by Top Rank, but would lose out on some of the PPV sales, merchandising, tickets, etc.
Top Rank would be the loser on their side because of the $80 million they would still have to give to Pacquaio weather the fight happens or not.
Mayweather:
Mayweather guaranteed $120 million to himself (meaning the first $200 million the would go to Mayweather Promotions and Top Rank for the purses)
If the fight gets cancelled, Mayweather would not get the $120 million, but he also wouldn't have to pay it like Top Rank would have to pay it.
------------------------------------
Placing a $5 million cap is not realistic because because that's pennys compared to what this fight is worth.
USADA doesn't have the authority to ban fighters in boxing, it would be the Nevada State Athletic Commission who would penalize the fighter. But then again, it's up to the other states to uphold the penalty if they want to.
That doesn't make any sense. If the fight is cancelled, why would Top Rank still pay Pacquiao? And no fine in the world can put a "cap" on how much you can sue for damages or lost revenue. Top Rank themselves can sue Pacquiao for lost revenue, fine or no fine.
That was pure ownage.... He must feel like a comete moron after the visuals
Except that the visuals didn't prove a thing.... fight night weight != contracted weight. If the contract was 150 fight night weight Manny would agree no problem.
Floyd is dumb. He just gave burglars an easy way to access his community. Just get someone that looks like him and rant like a ***** to the guards. Seriously, he should be glad the guards are doing their jobs to secure the place. Why bother living there if you don't like the inconvenience. He's so rich why not just buy a house somewhere else and hire his own security guards.
You have no leg to stand on. Your logic and out look was flawed and pointed out as such. Stop making excuses for the obvious.
Umm what is flawed logic? Please explain. My argument is that there is no proof that any of these so called "weight drained" fighters are at that much of a disadvantage that they would have made a difference regardless of weight. What evidence have you brought other than a few quotes that is just Roach's opinion? So he wants his fighter to have all the advantages. That just makes him a dick, does not make him correct.
Do you really believe that Cotto would have won if he weigh 1 or 2 extra pounds at the weigh in? Is this your honest opinion?
I think some people are drinking the Ellerbe kool-aid here. The $5 million agreement would be an automatic fine. It wouldn't prevent any boxing commissions from suspending your license, nor would it prevent either promotions from suing for any lost revenue. If anything this would create a $5 million MINIMUM.
rather than being an english professor and commenting on the structuring of the sentences pay attention to the points he is making. ok sir.
Right. Because only english professor can write proper sentences. If you want to make your point heard, then maybe write it clearly instead of being a lazy moron.
Besides I've read what it said and most if not all of it is nothing but baseless conjectures and opinions. Really show me one claim that isn't just hearsay or an opinion. All I see are arguments that someone weighing in a few lbs less takes away everything you've trained for in the last several months. Or that being "over the hill" somehow makes someone who was once an elite fighter into an amateur over night. Even though they still have years of experience and months of training.
If all it takes is a few lbs to dominate then all that proves is that Manny was either at their level or better.
woow little thing?
what dope was u smoking that night?
i like them some
So Pac only did big things? Never missed a punch? Not sure I get where you're going with this. The crowd was clearly biased and cheered every time Pac lunged forward whether he missed or not. I'm not even saying Bradley won here... just telling it like it is.
EDIT: On second read, I think your English skills are lacking. Look up what "every little thing" means....
I wouldn't say it was a great performance. He was definitely in good shape and dominant, but his tactics were questionable. It seemed like Manny slacked off a bit due to lacking respect for Bradley's power. He probably thought he can win at any time without putting much more effort into it. Maybe if Bradley was a bit stronger he'd try a bit harder, who knows. He was definitely an idiot for leaving it so close.
Are people actually upset that Pacquiao is coming in UNDER the weight limit? WFH? Wouldn't that just make it more impressive if he wins? It's like being allowed to use gun but choosing to use a knife instead.
Besides last I heard there is no such thing as a minimum weight. Both fighters can come in at any weight that doesn't exceed the limit.
all fighters say its the LAST lbs that kill you, if weight is not a problem why are team pac always so adamant on the issue even with marquez they try to blow him up same what mayweather did but unfortunately for pac marquez carried hes speed up with him. SO if u are arguing with me that weight makes no difference on the boxers performance - my dad once told me dont argue with fools.
What people say and what people do are far different. Michael Jordan dropped 38 points while he had a fever. You really think shedding a few lbs will bring someone from 100 to 0?
I'm not defending Manny for taking the advantages here. My argument though is that I don't think it would have made a difference. My opinion is that Manny won with speed and tenacity. He would have won against those "weight drained" fighters regardless of a few lbs.
Whining about HBO commentary is weak. What about the people that saw it live? They all still thought Manny won comfortably. Mayweather Sr included.
Even if Manny took the first few minutes off, what did Bradley do? Hop around and punch his gloves?
Here is where your logic is flawed. Roach told Shane that he couldn't fight Manny at 147 like Oscar did because he wasn't Oscar. Also Pac fought Cotto at 145 AFTER he fought Oscar at 147. Cotto was considered to be done after Margarito beat him and he had that tough fight with Clottey. Roach still had the fight at 145 and wanted Mosley prior to agree to a 142 catch weight. So according to you,if Manny was either on Cotto level or better at the time. Why would he need a catch weight to beat a fighter that was already considered to have taken a vicious beat down and wasn't the same? Why wouldn't Roach let Manny fight Mosley and Cotto at 147 since he was so dominate over Oscar at 147? Fact of the matter is that Roach wanted an edge to give to Manny so don't say a few lbs don't matter because if they didn't than Roach would have had Manny fight everyone at the full WW/JMW limit. Pac is closer to 140 than 147 but he fought JMM at 144 like Floyd because they thought that JMM would not be affective because of the Floyd fight. Why do you think they were saying Marquez is going to get KO'd and then after that Pac performed bad? They clearly underestimated an opponent that Pac has NEVER had an easy time with in the ring 2X prior.
None of this proves that the catch weight actually worked in his favor though. Just because they asked for it doesn't mean that it was effective. Do you see the difference? All it could have given him was a mental edge.
People have this bias that someone heavier than you always have a definite advantage, but a lot of the time this isn't true when the lighter person is much faster than the bigger one.
I'm not even defending Manny for taking the advantages here. I think he's a ***** for doing it. But people are overlooking the issue here. Manny won those fights not because of weight issue, but because they are all slow plotting fighters that he out sped. When faced with someone with patience and skill in JMM it shows that he wasn't at much of an advantage regardless of weight.
So it did worked in Pac's favor if he was given a mental edge right? This is according to you.
So what? Trash talking gives a mental edge too. Should that be banned?
Keep thinking that. Nobody in Pac's position would agree to it, NOBODY
But he will agree to go fight somebody for way less i mean way less. And also the time he turned down the Mayweather fight to go fight Clottey and visionquest said he didn't even get paid for that fight. So Pac wants to fight Mayweather so bad that he turns him down to fight for way less money and one fight he didn't even get paid for it that makes perfect sense lol
May 5th cant wait !!!!!!!!
Errr, Floyd is probably also making less money not fighting Pac... takes two to make a fight.
If two people are equal business partners and contribute to the profits equally, they should have equal earnings from the business. It's irrelevant where they come from or how much they've made in the past.
You can file lawsuit for almost anything there is nothing that can prevent any one from suing but it will significantly weaken any legal recourse if there is an out clause
I'm still not following this line of reasoning. The penalty is for failing the drug test on each fighter. Meaning the failed fighter would need to dole out $5 million out of pocket.
The promoters and networks and MGM would sue for lost revenue due to the fight not going forward and wasting time. They are not suing the fighter for failing a test. These things are not related.
I have never heard of anyone suing the fighter themselves for failing a drug test.
