listen up dummies cause you're about to get some education.
the maximum middleweight limit is 160 lbs.
the maximum jr middleweight limit is 154 lbs.
the maximum welterweight limit is 147 lbs.
the maximum jr welterweight limit is 140 lbs.
That means if JMM wants to fight martinez at 160 lbs, he can weigh 135 lbs and martinez can weigh 160 lbs and JMM can still win the title at middleweight.
when you use "160-155 lbs" to describe a middleweight bout, it's basically because most middleweights weigh around 160 to 155 lbs. however, it's possible for a one boxer to weigh 153 lbs and the other to weigh 160 lbs and the middleweight title will still be on the line for both.
what "160-155 lbs" really means is that the maximum limit for middleweight is 160 lbs and the maximum limit for jr middlweight is 154 lbs.

you need not reference what this fight's weight difference is because I'm clearly not talking about this fight I'm talking about pullcounters claim that there is no limit as to how low a fighter comes in to a fight as long as he doesn't exceed the agreed limit so I asked him, and this is outside of Pacquiao-Margarito (this is a general question which is why after a while I just used numbers and not names to make my point) I asked him if it was possible that someone at 135 while weighing 135 could fight a champion at 175 who outweighs him by 40 pounds for his title and he basically said yes as long as the guy who weighed 135lbs doesn't exceed 175 and that is absurd
you might ask why did I come up with such a crazy scenario? I'll tell you, because he said there is ZERO limit to what the difference in weight between 2 fighters can be as long as they don't surpass the maximum limit. he made my scenario possible by saying there is ZERO limit in what the weight disparity will be, that opens the space for me to make that scenario and I did and he said it wouldn't matter which is pure bullsh1t because it clearly DOES matter, no commission would even entertain that thought meanwhile you have this idiot saying that it's possible..
there may not be a MANDATED minimum but there is an invisible line in difference of weight where A FIGHT (not tomorrow's fight, but any fight) just can't go down, my example was 40 pounds, I said if a 135 pound fighter attempted to make a fight with a 175 pound champion it wouldn't matter that there is ZERO minimum weight limit like pullcounter says because no commission would let that happen anyway, he's basically saying it's possible when it's clearly not because no commission anywhere, anytime nor anyplace would allow it and 40 is a drastic example they wouldn't even let 30 pounds and I don't even think anything more than 20 pounds and I'm talking about weigh in weight not fight night weight
my bad for the long rant, I try to cut down on that but I just want to solidify my point, I'm not arguing that there is no mandated minimum weight limit I'm simply saying you can't weigh TOO low compared to your opponent
If you're so worried about fighters being outweighed by as much as double digits. Then should the heavyweight division put a minimum weight and maximum weight wherein both fighters should not exceed in order to protect both fighters well being?
I mean, you've got fighters in the heavyweight division outweighing opponents by as much as 20-100 lbs.
David Haye weighed in 218 lbs vs Valuev's 315 lbs. VALUEV OUTWEIGHED HAYE BY AS MUCH AS 100 LBS! NOW, IS THAT FAIR?
Lol, catchweights become a problem when they come to define a fighter's legacy. Do you realize casual boxing fans will call Pac the 'greatest ever' 100 years down the line because of 8 titles in 8 different weight divisions? Do you think it's moral to praise a man for false achievements? Yeah, I get it. Guys like Bernard have done it. IT STILL DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT. It's like that old saying, "if everyone jumps off a bridge, would you too?" If Pac can't make the weight of the Jr. Middleweight division, he shouldn't force Margarito to come in a catchweight. When Sugar Ray went up, he didn't call for catchweights.
u know nothing dude, when sugar ray fought for LH title he fought in catchweight, even now he doesnt have credit for that title. so does pacman if he win
If JCC Jr. at 160 lbs. beats Klitchko, which he easily could, then JCC Jr. is HW champ.
There is no minimum weight limit.
nah... according to the "slave contract" you have to beat both brothers to be the HW champ.
will u idiots shut up with this minimum weight limit ****???!!! this isnt the mma and this damn sure aint the amateurs and golden gloves n ****!! if u dot kno what ur talking about gtfo.
pac can weight -5lbs if he wanted to.
since when do you know what the rule book says? what commission do you work for to talk about what is and what's not in the rule book? THIS IS JUST YOUR OPINION!
it's not fukkin opinion dude. there's no such thing as a minimum weight limit. get in here benny and tell this guy.
I come back online and everyones pissed that Pac is so light?
I mean I personally think it's not smart to be so light.. but to be mad about it?
Theres no minimum weight.
Floyd weighed 150 for a 154lb title.. whats the problem?
Roy weighed 193 for a HW title?
In my humble opinion, Pacquiao's distrations in not working-out in the same level as previously while his body cannot take anything more than 150 shows that they elected for him to opt for his SPEED to compensate his relatively lesser-than-ideal conditioning.
So Pacquiao at 144 meant they're banking purely on his SPEED.
Sure it is a risk as Pacquiao's ability to absorb punches could be compensated. Thus I think that Roach is going for the KAMIKAZE attack on the early rounds.
Pacquiao's stamina is the "last resort" for him to box and outbox Margarito if he can't take him down on the early to mid rounds.
benny, please tell this guy there is no rule in boxing that says this.
since when do you know what the rule book says? what commission do you work for to talk about what is and what's not in the rule book? THIS IS JUST YOUR OPINION!
I didn't make this thread because of you. you are not teh center of boxingscene. sorry to inform you.
If you saying you didn't then f*ck it you didn't but that wasn't my main argument with you anyway it was you telling me that it's possible for someone who weighs 135 to fight someone at 175 for a title as long as the 135'er doesn't exceed 175 and that is simply absurd, YOU claimed that there is no minimum weight limit so that situation is technically possible and I said you're wrong and even Benny agreed with me it wouldn't be possible technically or any other way you want to twist it

Thank you. I can't rep you enough.
If Anything, Pacquiao is even handicapping himself more weighing in at 144 for the 147-154 Super Welterweight fight....while Margo weighing it at 150 (perfectly in the SWW) while potentially ballooning as much as 160-165 at fight night.
I come back online and everyones pissed that Pac is so light?

Yes. I agree. It wouldn't happen. No commission would allow it, and no promoter, manager, trainer would risk the health of his fighter doing it.
However, in this fight it's only five pounds, not twenty or forty. As you said, the problem with this fight is not the weights they chose to come in (well, Marg didn't really choose to come in at 150) but the whole situation regarding the title, division and bureaucratic nonsense it's being done for.
you need not reference what this fight's weight difference is because I'm clearly not talking about this fight I'm talking about pullcounters claim that there is no limit as to how low a fighter comes in to a fight as long as he doesn't exceed the agreed limit so I asked him, and this is outside of Pacquiao-Margarito (this is a general question which is why after a while I just used numbers and not names to make my point) I asked him if it was possible that someone at 135 while weighing 135 could fight a champion at 175 who outweighs him by 40 pounds for his title and he basically said yes as long as the guy who weighed 135lbs doesn't exceed 175 and that is absurd

Ok mr Alt with four posts..lol
YOur dumb or just dont know the sport if you believe that every heavier fighter beats every lighter fighter or vice versa. Spare me the dumbness.
:haha: Are you too dumb to realize I was replying to your exaggeration about Pac ending up in a coma ;)
Also I'm not an alt. I just don't spend my days posting on a message board.
Dumbass divisions were put in place to protect the health of fighters. I know some of you guys are obsessed with Pac because you believe him to be superman or super drug man whatever. But if Pac is hospitalized or put in a coma ...I bet you will all rethink this. Why do you think this does not happen regularly? Not because fighters are cowards but because its not allowed for most. You ask Allowed?
Well commissions are not creating belts for weight classes in between weights and allowing fighters to win divisions in that class. Only for Pac.
And the only thing dummies see is...HE DA MAN...lol
Many fighters would do the same thing given the opportunities.
go respond to benny's posts. thanks in advance.
I'm just saying if you have an opinion about what I said talk to me about it don't go make a separate thread like I can't put 2 and 2 together and know that you're basically indirectly dissing me and my opinion
I didn't make this thread because of you. you are not teh center of boxingscene. sorry to inform you.
So then if Pacquiao manages to stop Margarito you will have to admit he's a real badass to be able to take on someone that can potentially put him in a coma :lol1:
