pacquaio knows Floyd cant hurt him so he is going to rush in and pummel. Floyd will try and run but many will force him against the ropes. He will try and slip puches and weave but will eventually weave straight into one of mannys short lefts and down he goes.
Floyd is much faster, but many doesn't need to be as fast because he has short powerful punches. And he has accuracy - the most underrated skill in boxing. He can land. This is going to be awesome.
5000 replies, and I still think many is going to smash floyds face! Mannys not afraid to make this into a knock em down drag em out fight, and that's what Floyd has been scared off all these years.
I thought of this today: What if Floyd is outboxing manny for 7 or 8 rounds then manny finally gets to him. Puts a good punch on him and knocks him down. Floyd is hurt. He amanges to get up and get to the corner. Cant continue 'shoulder injury' goes to the cards. He wins.
It was once said that people get what they want, in the manner they deserve.
I will believe it when both of them are in the ring, and the bell sounds.
Also, everyone is pointing to the JMM loss as proof that Paquiao is not as good as mayweather. Well he did also beat him three times and draw him once. I also believe in that loss he was winning handily before getting caught with a sunday punch. Boxing fans need to stop assuming someone is a bum because they lost. Pac and JMM are both good fighters, if they fight several times the same result is not going to happen each time. I think Pac has been dodged for this long because he is quick enough to hit may, and hits hard enough to hurt him. Either pac catches him and wins by ko, or may puts on his runners and wins a decision to a chorus of boos fromt he crowd. Only two outcomes I see.
If they are fighting at 147 the ring championship will be on the line. There is no way of having a non title fight for the ring belt. It is also the only belt that the fighters don't need to pay to fight for. It is awarded. It is the closest thing we have to a real championship.
Manny world class attributes are his short quick punch, his timing and his accuracy. Accuracy, I find, is the MOST underrated skill in boxing (The reason Joe Louis made 25 defenses) Manny also packs enough power to hurt a man but its his ability to place it on the button that makes this an incredible fight. Manny, even if he loses badly, WILL get to Floyd at least once, so we shall finally see if mayweather is the great champion he claims to be. Manny has given many electrifying performances in the ring and has proven himself as a great prizefighter. He has been in many all out wars, and can also box handily. He has been lineal champion at many divisions.
Mayweather is an incredible tactician whose world class skills are defense, movement, and counterpunching. He has a fair amount of accuracy himself. Like Wlad Klitschko, he is the long time and great champion who is just getting to his best before date. Most fans I know are starting to want to see him lose. The way to beat a defense first fighter is to have enough accuracy to hit him, and enough power that he stays hurt when you finally do. Manny Paquaio is the only man in the last however long that could possibly fit this bill. Floyd doesn't have real power so obviously his path to victory is weathering whatever storm there is and outpointing Manny. He should be able to outpoint manny easily, but doubt if he could put him away. if he wins or loses he will still be considered an all time great.
What a fight. Obviously the whole world cant wait to see it. Finally a fight worthy of a world championship. This is the greatest sport on earth. How is it possible it has lost market share to a more realistic version of the WWF?? Its about GD time that they started making some decent fights instead of running themselves all out of business.
OMG go. I have always been a boxing fan since I was a child, had been to a couple lower level fights...meh. Then I ended up going to Hopkins and Kovalev. Now I'm 10 times as fanatic. There is no other sporting event that comes close to the electricity of a major prize fight. Nothing. And that one was only like a 7.5/10 . Paq-May is a 10. If you have the chance go
I don't know why anyone would defend these sanctioning bodies. They are a big reason why boxing is in trouble. There is only one true world championship in each weight division. This is not represented by any belt but is actually a title like king of England, or chairman of the board, that is handed down from one man to another according to a clear and identifiable set of rules. You either are or you aren't. There is no 'shares' of it. There is no 'unifying' it. You have either won the right to be called champion or not. The belts are just minor prizes that can be won.
Basically all this belt nonsense and 'unified' and 'undisputed' championship garbage started so Don King could make championship money from Tyson four or five fights before he challenged and won the real title from Spinks. This lead to 25 years of total confusion about who was the real 'champion' at any weight class.
Go for it. But dont listen to what anyone says on here or anywhere else either. motivation comes from within, not from guys on the interent. A great man once told me 'don't worry about what anyone else is doing, worry about what you're doing'
I think these guys are starting to realize that by not fighting each others fighters they are causing damage to the sport of boxing, and basically allowed the UFC to take over without a fight, and actually helped them get to the top by having their lame feuds instead of making fights. Now that theyre not making as much money they are realizing that they need to work together so they can all make money instead of petty nonsense. I think the cold war days are over.
Hey guys - aurora Ontario here. The gauze regulations allow only 10 yards in Ontario where fighters in other jurisdicitons routinely use 40 or more yards. The guys don't want to fight here because of potential hand damage. I did catch bahoeli vs carman for the crappy Canadian hvywt championship (what a barn burner) those guys didn't seem to mind, but I guess once you're fighting for money instead of peanuts the game changes.
Yes I was there. They were booing him because I don't think either man landed a punch in the first round. Stevenson was clearly carrying him until about the third when he decided to land something BOOM! He does have this punch hits harder than kovalev. That's all hes got over him though.
You are right there are not many real boxing fans in southern Ontario. They do a very poor job of promoting it over here. I know a few of my friends are fans, but other than that people are amazed to hear that the light heavyweight champion of the world is from and fights in quebec.
Yes I totally agree. Yes, Golovkin looks really good, and could really be something to behold on the middleweight scene, but it seem slike in this situation they are really trying to make him into this massive superstar when he really hasn't fought anybody at the very top level yet. I understand making money, and I understand HBO is in s tough spot and needs to maximize the few fighters they have, but this is a bit of a stretch. Let the kid do something before you start talking about 'unbeatable' and 'dominant' and mentioning him in the same breath as SRR. Really.
I think ten years ago when UFC was just catching its wind that's when the 'coldwar' was at its peak. Sooo stupid. By trying to limit the other promoters, people like al haymon have now limited himself.
I do agree that boxing is a business, and sometimes 'ducking' is done strategically. For instance, everyone wants and has wanted to see Stevenson Kovalev for years now. I believe the fight will happen. But if it happened when it was supposed to, then what? nobody would have cared about kovalev vs Hopkins or pascal. Beterbiev would still be years away from contention. The winner of that fight would have been fighting cans for a couple years anyway waiting for a challenger, and ruined the action in LHW division.
I'm not saying Cotto is better than GGG, I'm saying Cotto won the middleweight championship of the world and has not lost that title in the ring or retired. So GGG may look better but he is not the champion until he beats the champion. I'm sure they will fight fairly soon. In boxing things take months and years to materialize, not days and weeks.
it amazes me too, because there is money to be made. Toronto is the biggest bandwagon city in the world. The raptors are number one now that theyre good, but a couple years ago the scalpers were basically giving the tickets away at union station. When GSP was around ufc was HUUUUGE! Now no one cares or knows anything about it.
I used to really hate mma, but now I sort of understand it. I have always preferred boxing over ultimate fighting as a better show, and makes for much more interesting contests. Also I find some of the things done in MMA to be savage, like hitting when down, arm twisting, knees and elbows. People need to accept MMa for what it is - the world WRESTLING championship. Boxing is the fist fightting championship of the world. That is essentially what we have here, like in the 1800s, both a legitimate boxing and wrestling world championship.
I know the biritsh fans are supporting their man whole heartedly with Fury, but I just cant see it with this guy. Everyone goes on about his speed and his movement and he switched to southpaw! Oh wow. WHO CARES? He looks sloppy as can be to me, and the reason hes only been in with third tier guys is because he would lose to anyone above that national level. His handlers know this and that's why they want their Wlad shot, so he can get paid before he loses to someone. Every time I watch im fight I'm hoping he will show some great improvement and appear to have elevated his game. No sir, he looks just as sloppy and uncoordinated as always. That chisora II fight I've never seen someone look worse in a domanting victory.
There is a class of fighter like Pulev who I believe would be much improved if they ditched the old trainer and got a real top level trainer. I used to think fury was one of these but the more I see him I realize even emmanual stewart wouldn't have been able to help him.
Wow so paquiao got KOed once by a guy who had his number and he still beat him twice. At least he has guts. Mayweather's 'defense' is mostly RUNNING. I once saw a fighter RUN like Floyd against RJJ and everyone BOOED. Yet when TBE does it it's masterful. Paquiao will walk Floyd right down and throw as many punches as possible because he knows Floyd has no power and he is not scared to get hit. He is the only guy accurate enough to hit him with his head movement. Manny is a master of hitting where the head is going to be, not where it is. If he tries to run many will still be able to hit him easlily because though he doesn't bounce much he is very accurate and can cut off the ring. I wouldn't be surprised to see him rush mayweather at the bell. One thing is for sure - he WILL get to Floyd at least once so we will finally see Floyd in real trouble and unable to RUN. WHAT A FIGHT!!!!
Jennings should be quiet, he looked terrible against perez and knows he will start losing at the top of the division so hes' cashing out now. I thought wilder looked impressive. Not that he looked perfect or great or anything, but he clearly worked on his footwork and movement and defense as well, he elevated his game. He is making a serious effort to become a real professional prizefighter. Jennings never looked like that to me. He has 0 chance against wlad, wilder if he can continue to work on his game could theoretically in the future at least pose some sort of challenge.
I don't know Bika too well but it looks like hes lost every time hes fought at the highest level. Looks like another soft touch for Stevenson. I was at Stevenson Shuhotsky and let me tell you his punch might be as good as ive seen. The sound of it landing the 3 or 4 times he really hit shuhotsky was awe inspiring, like nothing ive seen. I swear on the KO the doctor was in the ring before the ref even started counting. He was out for many minutes. He has a legitimate world class one punch power, I don't know why he's afraid to fight anyone on his level.
