Margaritto doesnt care if you hit him 4-5 times as long as he can keep coming forward pressuring you and making you fight backwards. Margaritto was decent at cutting the ring off. Canelo is more of a boxer/puncher who like to stand and trade and mix it up
That's true, it's really kinda like comparing apples and oranges, Cotto would do himself a favor if he chose to move and turn him around as he's supposed to do. I simply haven't considered what you said at the moment of starting this topic, but now it feels like 55-45 fight in Cotto's favor. This fight would answer where are both of them now, how much has Canelo really improved and is Cotto really rejuvenated under Roach. I do honestly think he's a lot better now than when he fought Trout and Mayweather, but off course still nowhere near that 2006-2008 version.
Cotto's footwork against Canelo
So I haven't thought a lot yet about who would win the fight or about the advanteges of both Canelo and Cotto are having over each other, but what comes to my mind is people who are saying Cotto has a footspeed advantage over Canelo and that his overall footwork is much better (which is all true), are forgetting that he had the same adventages over Margarito, too. So how significant would be Cotto's adventage in footwork departement against Canelo? Would his footwork be more important factor against Canelo than it was against Margarito?
The thing is both are good punchers and bigger guys than him with a reach adventage, (with Margarito being much larger guy) and neither guy was great at cutting off the ring so on paper has the tools to punish them. In fact that's what he was doing all night in Margarito 2. Now I haven't watched Cotto Margarito 1 in years so I don't recall of what was Cotto's game plan that night but I'll rewatch it soon, so please remind me how he started that fight. In case he started it thinking he could go straight and bang with Margarito instead of using his footwork and giving him angles than it explains it all and the answer to my own question would be that the first Margarito fight doesn't mean anything. But the thing is I don't remember it.
I'd say just like everybody else, that he should turn Canelo all night and give him trouble with his footwork but I just don't remember if he tried it too in the first Margarito fight or not?

Exactly! I appreciated him as a comentator but the way he's jalous of Pac reminds me of Rooney hating on Tyson for decades every single chance he get. They just can't stay rational when talking about people they hate, otherwise they are able to say smart things, especially Rooney, he has a very deep boxing knowledge and is always on point, minus Tyson talk.

Great fight, scorecards were terrible, what a shame. Watching it live on a ****ty stream, I was concentrating more on heineken and talking to my friends than on fight it self, but it looked to me like Cotto was winning. Than I just re-watched it, I can say there were some very close rounds, but after seeing it again I can fully agree that Canelo won it. I had it 7-4 for Canelo, with one round even. Canelo won a lot of exchanges. However very very good performance from Cotto, too.

Whitaker's defense allowed him to transition back to offense quicker than Mayweather, this is why he was able to slip shots in the pocket and get more leverage/ work combinations in ways that Mayweather couldn't. As for the bold, way more is a stretch, although he may have gotten hit more it's only logical considering he was more offensive minded.
As for footwork, look at how easily Whitaker was able to slide out of the corner, he was remarkable at doing that, it's not to say Mayweather's footwork isn't superb but Whitaker has him bested there. Absolutely no shame in that, it's hard to rate anyone higher than Whitaker in that department.
Great post! I'd green k you if I didn't already have given too much of them today, anyway.... first of all Mayweather feet used to be incredible, one of the very best, but Whitaker, along with Pep and Roy Jones are just a bit above all of them and there isn't no shame in that...
Mayweather prefer just to use the latteral movements to escape to the empty, free part of the ring and that's where his mission stops. His defense and offense are not that connected, while Whitaker loved the transition from defence to offense and was a master at angles, so instead of leaving his opponent feets/meters behind him with his latteral movements, he moved just a step or two to create an angle and attack them back.
Mayweather knows how to control the distance, and Whitaker was master at it too. He did it that well that he could do with ease the things the boxers aren't supposed to do in the gym today. He reminded me of Locche, who loved to circle to his left, to the power arm of his ortodox-stance opponents and never be touched by it because of how well he controlled the distance... well Whitakercould do the similar thing, only that being a southpaw, he circled to his left, the power hand of his ortodox-stance opponents and coudln't be caught... off course, he hasn't done it all the time but he could do it often.

You're neglecting Floyd's use of Lateral movement to set up offence ie his leaping left hooks like the ones that put Corrales down multiple times.
You may be right, my bad, thank you. By the way speaking about it he used it more often earlier than he has done these last few years. I remember he surprised me with his left hook against Cotto but beside that fight I can't recall him using it often these last few years if I'm not wrong.

I am just about ready to abandon the game for this reason.
It is getting beyond frustrating that every fight I try to make sits in pending for days and then expires. Reject my fight, but don't just ignore it. Accounts should be deleted if people don't sign in and respond to offers.
I took a break from staging shows because it was getting frustrating going down to the wire getting fights made. My last show I had to find guys that were AI controlled and fight 4 rounders because I ran out of time.
So this month I put my stable on other people's shows. Found competitive match ups on televised cards...3 of my 5 fighters offers sat in pending until they expired thus missed out on their spots on the card. The promoters of the shows accepted the fights, they were even match ups...but my opponents promoter didn't respond to the fight offers.
I'm getting sick of it.
Same here, that's why I prefer to pair my fighters with AI's and free agents. Someone sent me request today to put his fighter on my show and I refused because my show is already sold out so it makes no financial sense to me and I even explained him why I can't accept. I hate all these j*rks making me lose my time.
