I'm really looking forward to this documentary tonight.
Keep all your thoughts and opinions in regards to the documentary in this thread..
I have this sneaking suspicion that I will tear lil a lil ***** for this one...
Discussion to come.....
Just caught this on HBO earlier today and wow...what a great documentary. It's made me (a fairly new boxing fan) wanna seek out a career DVD set of Tapia's fights. Dude was a straight up BEAST and seemed so friendly.
That ending though... :(
What's the verdict around here on his book "Mi Vida Loca: The Crazy Life of Johnny Tapia"??
Is it worth picking up??
Anyone read it?

Wow, just finished watching this now.
Absolutely awesome documentary on the great Johnny Tapia.
If anyone hasn't seen this yet its a MUST view, seriously. It's in the video trading block if anyone wants to download it.
It was good, I think I expected a little more based on all R he stuff I read, but I guess an hour probably couldn't capture it all. I once read that his uncle used to pimp him out, make him fight older cats for many as a way to get paid. They said he was a teenager fighting full grown men. Very good nonetheless, thanks the memories champ!!!

Good documentary, like others said felt a little rushed, but great to see those old fights.
Had a chuckle when they talked about the dude who killed his mom. Narrator says died from a hit and run, then Tapia says he got ran over a couple times:lol1: seemed like Johnny had some inside info
Sad how bad his habit got doing blow. Always thought about how he would have had an easier time if he wasn't doing obvious lethal amounts of it.
He was still the man anyway. It's just you don't see people literally overdosing on it that often like he did.

saw this last night it was great i didnt know a lot about Johnny so i read up on him after the documentary was over this could have easily been a 3 hours long the guy lived a crazy interesting life
I have just found the torrent and I'm currently downloading it so I don't know if the torrent is fake or not, but I don't think it is. So anyway, anyone who wants the torrent link hit me on PM.
He was a beast at his very best in the ring.
Obviously outside he was superman also, but I mean he was simply a Great Legendary fighter.

Damn, missed this. Hope to catch the replay. I once met Johnny Tapia standing outside my local A&P. Was super friendly and easy to chat with. Two things stood out: I asked him about Prince Naseem Hamed and he said, "man that muther****er doesn't wanna fight me!" And when his wife came out he instantly said, "ok gotta go!" and walked off. Good guy, great fighter. May his soul find peace.
HBO needs to make more documentaries like these. I wouldn't mind seeing documentary on Hector Macho Camacho to be honest. His life was just as tumultuous.
I didn't know he had found his dad, that was pretty cool to see.
Johnny's half-brother, son of his dad was in prison for 14 years for second-degree murder and drug trafficking. After Johnny's death, he married Johnny's widow, Teresa. They divorced this year.
