Even though Cotto is my favorite active fighter, I didn't see the improvements to change the outcome of an eventual fight against Margarito. I hope he shows me otherwise.
I agree, the first fight was close, we need a rematch to settle things once and for all.
We might have watched different fights. To me it was close for the first 2 rounds. After that it was all downhill for Cotto, in my opinion.
Trinidad. The way people expected his fights and the feeling after he defeated oponents was incredible. Awesome times. I would also love to see Camacho in his prime sans the drugs.
Maybe he'll use the same excuse to losing to Pacquiao: "I had a bad day!" Honestly thoug hope to see him back fighting elite boxers and giving PR awesome saturday nights again. lol
Heard he may go after Elio Rojas. I know the Lopez nuthuggers are gonna defend that fight. But why go after a guy who is recovering from a shoulder injury instead of a guy like Caballero who's healthy and ready to fight? Let alone the fact that Rojas is a Don King fighter who has never fought on HBO like Caballero has and therefore HBO won't put up the same amount of money for that fight like they would Caballero. Lopez is just shook. No other way you can put it.
Everybody knows uncle Bob is the one picking opponents. None the less JuanMa should fight Caballero and stop making excuses about popularity and money.
The reason why the Bob Arum excuse is weak too is because Lopez says out of his own mouth that he doesn't want to fight Caballero and that's why that shit don't fly.
And thats perfectly understandable. I dont think that at this point in his career and being in Top Rank he is able to make that type of decisions. If he did have a choice he should stop making excuses and fight Caballero. Until that he is gonna continue looking like he is afraid of Pelenchin (maybe he is, I dont know).
I don't believe Cotto has the slimest chance to win a decision in my must humble opinion. It is not that Manny can't win a decision, he certainly can, but Paquiao has the boxing world on fire. Sadly it benefits more people if Paq wins than if Cotto wins.
I don't get why people are saying Cotto is gonna get jobbed here, he's under the same promotional banner as Pac and a mayweather-cotto fight is almost as lucrative as a pacquiao-mayweather fight.
Although it is true that Paq and Cotto are both under Top Rank it is quite obvious (to me atleast) that the bigger plans and the must money are with a Paquiao victory this Saturday night. Just the fact that Arum has been reported to be trying to set a fight between Paq and Mayweather in the Cowboy stadium and the fact that if Paquiao wins it would be one of the biggest, if not the biggest achievement in boxing history, may be a lil hint as to why it is difficult for Cotto to win a decision on Saturday night. Just my 2 chavos prietos.
I'm going to be at a wedding but the mayor of my town is throwing a party in the town square showing the fight on a big screen. I'm going to do whatever it takes to go and watch the fight. It is going to be a phenomenal night
im mexican and i say margarito has to fight cintron first!!! and if he wins he can fight cotto!!
I agree with you 100%. To me there's no bigger fight for Cotto than to fight Maragarito again!
Also people were praising him for his courage and determination for taking such a huge risk without having the title on the line. I'm trying to find out what went wrong!?
Do people forget that quickly that Pacquiao himself said in an article that he had agree to fight Cotto in a non title match because he understood that it wasn't at the WW limit? He also added that it didn't matter to him because he knew that it was going to be a war and a memorable figh. Which leaves me with the question: Why the sudden change of heart?
This fight will show how much Miguel Cotto has improved under Emmanuel Steward.
I hope thats the case. Let's see if the old dog can, indeed, learn new tricks.
To the people using the "Caba doesnt bring the money or recognition to the table" need to stop making excuses. How can we be ok with JuanMa basically chickening out of a fight against Caba using every type of excuse possible and hate on Mayweather for doing the exact same thing? To me it is blind fanbyoism. Im a JuanMa fan but he needs to fight Caballero plain and simple.
I really don't find having catch weight belts to be a good idea in terms of making boxing a more popular sport as I read. Is just another way for organizations to make more money. Would people give the same credit to a boxer who wins one of these belts than to win the one that's already establised? Would the tought of winning any of these new belts make boxers feel the urge to make more catch weight bouts? We will see....
Mayorga needs to blast Cotto with uppercuts because he is still a sucker for that punch. His stance didn't improve in the Foreman fight like Steward claims it needs to. He looked like the same fighter to me in that fight. If Mayorga doesn't land that punch like he should, I don't see him beating Cotto even if it goes the distance unless he pressures Cotto so much that Cotto gives in and gasses. And yeah, if Cotto can't win this fight then it will prove the people right on here including myself that he's overrated as fuck. Even more so than previously thought because Mayorga is a stepping stone.
Cotto not only needs to beat Mayorga. But he needs to do it in impressive fashion like De La Hoya did or it will make it look like Floyd fought the right guy.
My good sir, how can a fighter with such a great list of opponents and beating some of the elites he fought, be called overrated? There's a good chance he loses, there's always a chance of losing in the sport, but if that's the case it has less to do with Cotto being overated and more to do with the fact that Mayorga has a better night thatn expected.
