Body builders use it to cut fat and add mass in a short amount of time. That has no benefit to boxers as they want to maintain flexibility. They aren’t packing on muscle. It’s banned in boxing because it’s a short term fix for boxers who struggle making weight but can be harmful when taken in huge amounts.

And the amount that was found in Canelo was shown to have little effect at cutting any weight. He would have had to have taken roughly six times the amount to have any effect which again makes no sense to do that far out from a fight. The best fighters learn and adapt. First fight he obviously respected GGG’s power and wasn’t going to get reckless early and trade as he didn’t want to get caught with something big. I think he realized he could hold up to GGG’s shots.
Reynoso said in fight 2 they realized the key was to keep GGG moving so he couldn’t load up on his power shots. Canelo moved and turned him often even if a counter wasn’t there. Why he tried to bait him on fight week to come meet him in the middle of the ring and knock him out. They had a better game plan.

GGG was the naturally bigger man. He fought at middleweight the majority of his professional career while Canelo came up in much lower weights. He won the MW title against Cotto at a catchweight. Canelo had no issues making 160 while it was well known GGG had struggles cutting down to 160 in his 30’s. GGG was also a much heavier puncher at MW who was knocking out guys his size and bigger regularly. Canelo is a more counter puncher that can trade but was never a big KO artist like GGG. Fight night weights don’t tell the whole story.
