5-0 Deric Davis vs 2-0 Jamal Johnson
Maybe so, don't think he needs right now a dominant display of a win to prove he is a top 154 pounder, as Yoenis Tellez is 24 years old with just 10 wins, so it is expected that he will make improvements and get a title shot in a few years. Just think it would had been a good time with this specific opponent to test his ability to switch gears (show adjustments) against a game but faded veteran in Williams.
In this fight specifically, he just sticked with the same gameplan where his opponent had pockets of success and I don't think it was the best move, good thing he didn't just randomly upped his activity where J-Rock felt safe at midrange. He would had gassed more quickly. He closed the distance in round 9th and then unleashed combinations. I didn't see a "Game" Williams, I saw a veteran getting a paycheck and avoiding any risky situation, he was there to survive and that was it.
Ref needs to be fined and suspended , this was not a "aw shucks" mistake it had real consequences that was a life changing win for Roach . The ref allowed a fighter to take a knee , turn his back walk back to his corner and stick his head out of the ring .........That should have been a KD period end of story .
And then went back for a second wiping of the grease
Just can’t make this up

Wake up to hear that Davis struggled, no shock there. Davis has become complacent and spoiled. Davis once again chose to face a 130lb titlist, and assumed he'd be allowed to do what he normally does. And if his opponent ever gives him serious issues, his status as the HOUSE fighter will be his safety net. Last night seems to exemplify why Davis refuses to leave the comfort of PBC island.
He refs all over the world and has done a really good job. That is why I am counting it as a mistake. Wouldn’t be the first ref mistake.
He deserves criticism because he gets paid to get that call right and not cost a boxer a win, especially in a title fight.
No way he knew that would happen.
I guess the check didn't clear or you would be caping harder
Whatever the reason, you take a knee, it should be scored.
as for winning without that round, I had Roach winning 115-113, or a draw. So I think the way 2 the judges scored the rounds was ok.
no real issue with the scoring for me, the judges can only follow the ref in terms of knockdowns etc.. The issue is with the ref, he has cost Roach winning.
Refs are known to give a fighter a very quick timeout.
I believe KD's should be earned, not given.
Beliefs are not rules, doe :lol1:
Didn't watch the fight
Didn't care who won
Looked at the replay of the punch on ESPN
The punch itself wasn't what one would think could send a fighter down.
Tank rolled with it, grazing shot at best....then a pause
Tank looked at the ref and said something
It wasn't a body shot where there could be delayed reactions.
No noodle legs or confusion
Didn't stay in the corner trying to buy time. 2 seconds ?
There was more than enough time for LRJ to finish Tank if Tank was even slightly wobbly.
Some say LRJ should have won even without that rd :dunno: ?

I definitely agree that he didn’t know that would cost a fighter a title I’ll agree to that but to start the count then stop the count , something fughin shady about that especially with his experience
Talk about righting a right decision just to go back and cancel it

Talk about correcting a right to a wrong don’t make no sense
to me , especially not with his experience
Yes sir! It proves to be true each and every time.
As I said earlier in the thread, I'm sure Floyd is somewhere having a chuckle.
Oh for sure in some corner laughing his ass off
But he is the culprit of this preserving the 0 bullchit
C’mon Dunn be realistic ffs

This is a good point. That ref is usually solid. He made a mistake that cost Roach the title tonight.

Tank got a LIVE taste of how fickle fans can be when they don't get what they want. You can tell he's really in this to make fans happy and they boo'd him because he didn't stop Roach. He could barely keep his head up before the interview started.
Roach should have walked away with the W but this is what happens in the sport, unfortunately. Now the world is ready to turn against him and suddenly Shakur "beat him easily" according to "fans".
Great night for Roach and a learning experience for Tank. Now you have to understand why he doesn't mind talking retirement nowadays.

Even if the ref DID call the knee and start the count, the fighter can't go over to his corner for assistance. Tank would have still have to wait until the round was over before he could wipe his eye. He did it again at the start of the 10th and the ref let him do so. This was pure BS. The ref should be thrown out.
Mr googly eyes must of received some kind of envelope lol
