I'm going to have to take Mares. Sure Rigo looks appealing because of his def and boxing skills. But Mares has fought big fights where he wasn't expected to win. He's been KD, got up, dug deep and won. How many times can Rigo say he's done that? I have to give Mares the benefit of the doubt as he has put the work in a deserves to receive credit. All of his fights are tough which makes him perform at the highest level. He wins an ugly/boring fight.

This is so true. I don't know why no one gives Mares props, he is doing the same thing Andre Ward did, but then again, most people didn't give him props either. Mares beat everyone he wasn't supposed to starting Yhonny Perez until now. People need to stop hating on this kid and give him his credit due.

PAC right now is probably an A-/B+ fighter even in his declined state. He can still put good combos together, has a lot of speed/power and "decent" footwork. Rios is a B- fighter at best, crappy defense and no speed. He had a tough time putting Alvarado away. Even though he beat him 2x, he struggled. I think this is a terrible matchup. PAC assuming not too much ring rust, puts him away inside 10 rounds.

Styles make fights. I'm not saying that Rigo won't win this fight, but to say he's clearly better or that he will "tap that ass" is just being blinded by you being a fan of his. I don't know if there is another more impressive resume in the past 2 years than Mares. He can brawl, counter punch, box, move forward or backward. I will argue Mares might be the most well rounded fighter in the game today and that's no exaggeration. I would love to see this fight and I don't think it would be a walk in the park for Rigo. Only two active fighters I would put above Mares regarding toughest competition lately, and that is Ward and Froch, but he is third in my book

It's strange too that not more people on here picked Cotto. I picked him and I don't even like Cotto. But if you watched his fights from Floyd til now, it is easy to notice that his offense has been improving vastly. If you look at Sergio, all he fights are bums and doesn't even dominate them. Looking at Cottos latest opponents against Sergios, Cotto wins hands down. Plus the fact that the only boxer with a weaker chin than Sergio is JMM, Cotto easily wins. I don't know why this is such a shock to people. People need to give Cotto his credit and let's make Cotto/Canelo!

Yeah, some restraint is in order, but MAN, he knocked Peterson down with a grazing shot. Like he just swiped Peterson across the forehead and his knees immediately buckled. This is the same Peterson that took some pretty hard shot when he fought Kendall Holt on ESPN. Holt ain't feather fisted by any means. To see a guy like Peterson get blasted out after getting hit just two or three times is impressive and exciting. Based on that alone I think the hype is warranted. No the hype would be warranted as soon as he out boxes a good boxer. He couldn't even outbox "old" Judah and "can't put it all together" Alexander. Don't get caught up on power, it'll deceive you. Look what happened to Kirkland.

I'm tired of reading comments like these from boxers and boxing fans. It doesn't matter if u love Canelo and hate Floyd with a passion. Canelos best win was a narrow win against Trout. How can u go from narrowly beating Trout to a fight against Floyd is 50-50? Or Canelo will KO Floyd, but he couldn't KO Matt Hatton or Mosley. M Hatton moved up two divisions and Canelo couldn't KO him. How can fans draw the conclusion from this that he can KO Floyd who has actually fought at JMW before and has the best defense and lowest opponent connect rate in recent memory. Not to mention he was never even KD before. GTFO with the Canelo hype. I swear Canelo fans are blinder than PAC and Floyd fans combined.

So Cotto fights several tough fights, gets with a new trainer in Steward and tests the waters against Mayorga and Foreman @ 154 and that's bad? I think after some of the hard fights he was in, he deserved some fights that might help him hone his skills. By the way, you know he already beat Mosley right? I don't really think you know what you're talking about tbh and I don't think you even knew he fought Shane before. You're dumb. Moving up in weight after you lost 3 fights in a row (IMO lost to Clottey) to face Foreman and Mayorga is not testing the waters. It's called fighting tomato cans to avoid losing again and having to retire. Really from going from competition such as PAC to Foreman, how can u defend that decision? "He needed some fights to hone his skills" you say. So from fighting the best at WW to jumping up and fighting hasbeens and neverbeens helped him hone his skills? And yes I'm aware Cotto already beat Mosley. The point is they were both tough warriors who fought the best. Also the fight was close and with them both being washed up, if they refuse to retire the only fight I would want to see from them is a rematch.

I have to give Floyd credit. I didn't think there was any chance he would take this fight due to fear of a robbery due to Canelos popularity. I still tho, can't understand why Canelo Nd GBP would make this fight right now. Floyd said he still has 5 fights left. Why wouldn't Canelo fight 2 more fights to get a little more experience, then make the fight. I thought he lost to Trout and the show time announcers had Canelo only winning by a point. The judges give him too many rounds in his fights. Too bad GBP cant see this and they bought into his hype. No doubt Canelo is good but hes not ready for the best of the best. I think it's too early and Floyd embarrasses him. (And no his size and power won't be a factor since Canelo hasn't had a KO in a while, and couldn't KO a way smaller Matt Hatton. Floyd by UD with Canelo only winning maybe 1 round.

No way did Trout win that... not even close... All he did was fight scared throwing pattycake punches because he was petrified of Canelo's power. I know people say the object is to hit and not get hit blah blah... but he was literally throwing any pitty patty punch he could to stay away from Canelo.. And as soon as he risked engaging he did the stanky leg. I totally disagree. Trout did fight back. He boxed and moved nicely. Canelo did improve his defense dramatically and I will admit I was very impressed by his speed. But no way even if u scored it for Canelo, did he win 117-111 as the judges had it. They fought in Texas and so Canelo was favored. Point is Canelo didn't show enough to prove he is ready yet. If he beat Trout in the same fashion he beat Mosley, then I would be all for this fight, but he didn't and hence I'm not. Bernstein 114-114, Farhood 114-113, Paulie 115-114. That's 1 draw and 2 1 point wins for Canelo. Take away the KD and its 2 draws and a loss.

Being honest, Canelo doesnt have much chance because hes too young and hasnt fought top tier opponents. If Canelo is to have a chance, keys for Canelo is defense, pressure, and jab. His defense has dramatically improved but he needs to put all of his focus in training camp trying to improve it. It doesn't matter what he does in the fight if he keeps getting countered with overhand rights all night. He needs to put pressure on Floyd and keep it up all fight. The problem is that Canelo is a pure boxer, he doesn't use pressure that well. He needs to stalk Floyd and keep up a good pace in the fight staying active throwing a lot of punches and combos. The one vulnerability Floyd had is the jab. Cotto was landing it at will. Canelo needs to throw it often, double up on it, and combo off it. But it needs to be his main punch since he will have the most success with it. If Cotto was able to bloody Floyd's nose with it, maybe Canelo can do more damage since he's bigger. Edit: And the body shots Canelo wants to focus on is pointless. Floyd's weakness isn't his body, it's his head. He is always in great shape and had great stamina. He can box effectively without running. The body shots need to come but not be the main focus. Cotto was landing the jab easy and Mosely staggered him with an overhand right. His head is his weakness not the body. That's why he does the shoulder roll, to protect his head not his body.

I think Sergio and GGG will actually fight soon. Let's face it, Sergio is getting older and can't keep fighting against bums for much longer. Fighting on PPV against Cotto will make him want to have more PPV fights. And while I don't like Cotto post-Pac fight, he has regained a lot of his old form and will put glass jaw Sergio to sleep. After he gets put to sleep by Cotto, he will be desperate to make one big PPV fight and retire, and a fight against an HBO glamorized GGG would sell.

You have terrible logic? What did Ortiz to get the Floyd fight? Floyd is nothing special all you have to do is beat Berto to get to him. Floyd is a great boxer but fights guys who have bo chance or washed up legends like oscar and shane. Alvarez is a tough fight for Floyd just wait and see. That's the point. No one is saying Floyd shouldn't fight him as there are limited opponents ATM. But to actually consider Canelo as a tough challenge let alone pick him to win and by KO as many blind fans have, is ludacris. Canelo is good but he's still unproven. His best wins were mediocre performances against good not great fighters.

For those of u who don't know the game Lucas has excellent boxing skills an he used them last sat. He started off parrying Lamont's jab with his own right hand. Then he adjusted by slipping to his left under the jab in position for the left hook while staying covered with his own right hand. He also used the jab ala Floyd as a blinder to land the right hand body then left Which not only put Lamont down early but kept him buzzed. Don't be so gullible. Rewatch the fight. STUDY what Lucas does. Watch his footwork. Watch him adjust. He took away Lamont's jab. He's legit. Not just a bomber. Yes Lucas can box. But to say he is an excellent boxer is exaggerating. He threw some of the wildest shots I've ever seen in the first and second round of the Peterson fight. In round one when Peterson was moving, he was missing wildly. He even missed so bad he knocked his own self down. Do you remember that? Judah and Alexander are clearly not the best in the division. Lucas even knocked both of them down. Even with the KD point advantages, he still couldn't outbox those two B level fighters to a win. (And even if u think he did win, the score was so close that it still proves he needs more work.) The problem is fans today look at boxing in the same way the did baseball years ago. It's too boring so we need more home runs, and in this case brawlers. In the end that mentality ruins the sport. Yes Lucas is good, but he is receiving way more praise than he deserves simply because of his power. Plus he can't cut the ring off. But it's gonna happen just like with Guerrero. People are going to overhype Lucas to fight a bigger fight before he's ready and he is going to get schooled. Guys who can box and have movement beat him all day everyday, ie Bradley, JMM, Floyd.

Schafer and company are already laying the ground work for why they won't fight Canelo, and making out that the public whoop this up everytime some great comes along.... the reason why the fans, the public bring these names up????? IS because Floyd will NEVER fight the best of the best, IN THEIR PRIME, win, lose, or draw. He's always very strategic as to WHO, and WHEN he fights, named guys... He made Mosley & Cotto wait more than 10 years, well past their prime. He always found reason to blame Pacquiao, and still to this day he won't fight Manny, and now says, manny has business to finish with JMM & Bradley... also says Manny isn't as marketable. OH PLEASE!!! A Mayweather/Pacquiao fight would sell out in an HOUR. Manny already agreed to all the demans of Mayweather, and Floyd balked. Now he throws the Canelo name around. Listen, if Floyd wouldn't fight Pacquaio, if he wouldn't fight Sergio Martinez in Sergio's prime, he certainly will never fight Canelo, but he will spin things to protect the image control, and give you the look he'd fight Canelo. NEVER happen, and just because Canelo would stalk him down, take away his heart, then knock him out. So quit talking about Canelo. I wouldn't fight Canelo either if I were Floyd, but for different reasons than you say. First if I'm the P4P champ, I don't care who u are, you are coming to my weight class which Canelo refuses. Second, Canelo is popular which leads to a possible robbery just like with Bradley/PAC, which is risky. Third, name someone Canelo actually beat to earn a shot with Floyd? Besides narrowing beating Trout, who else note worthy has Canelo beat to challenge Floyd? The two biggest matchups Canelo had didn't materialize, and that was a fight with Ortiz and Cotto whom both Floyd beat. You have no base to stake your claim that Canelo will KO Floyd who arguably has the best defense in all of boxing, especially when Canelo couldn't even KO Trout. Hell he couldn't KO Matt Hatton who moved up 2 divisions, so stop it with the nonsense. Agreed Floyd cherry picks. But Manny is the king of catch weights and fighting guys coming off losses, ie Margarito, Mosley, Cotto, Clottley. Sergio is also turning into the next Lucian Bute with all the tomato cans he's fought lately. Stop hating on Floyd and hugging Canelos nuts. Well they already started by saying Mayweather wants the Canelo fight at 147, that's a smokescreen right there, why would he want him to come to 147? I don't agree with many of Floyd's opponents, especially Guerrero, I don't know why everyone and the media liked that. But to be honest, if you are the P4P champ, if someone wants to fight you, they need to come to you. Why should u move up? I don't blame Floyd if he is demanding this.

Canelo has a better chance then Shane Oldsley, Quittez, Guerrero, and this washed version of Cotto today of beating Floyd.. Not saying Canelo beats him but his odds are higher then those washed up WW and former LW, LWW no threats.. Floyd wants Canelo at 147... Even playing field huh? Better chance, yes. Can he win, no. It won't even be competitive at this point. If Canelo is good enough to face Floyd, what's the rush. Floyd has five fights left in him. Canelo can fight 3-4 fights against good competition, which he hasn't yet, then still face Floyd. If he is ready to face Floyd now, (which he is no where close IMO) he should have no problem winning a couple more fights against other fighters who are not on Floyd's level, which no one is, in preparation for a showdown. Really, that's the only chance he has.

I disagree with Mathysse, and if he comes into the fight thinking this way, it'll be a long night. Peterson managed to pull off a draw with V.Ortiz when he was getting beat up. I remember the determination he had that allowed him to come back and earn a draw instead of a loss. Alexander on the other had, loses focus. He got gift decisions against Matthyse and Kotelnik. If Lucas barely beat an unfocused Alexander (he won in my book) what will happen when Peterson turns it up during the tail end of the fight? Prediction: Peterson wins UD if he fights slick. If he decides to fight toe-toe which is stupid IMO, Lucas wins by TKO late.

Canelo has no chance at beating mayweather now or before the contract is up... he's not at that level... he'll never be at that level... not smart enough or fast enough to beat mayweather... in the one true fight he has had in his career, he won a controversial decision against trout... not saying that he didnt win but it definitely wasnt impressive... trout isnt half as good as mayweather... canelo has a LOOOOOOOOONG way to go... he needs to think about fight more talented, bigger fighters... maybe thatll help him with experience and he might can win 4 rounds against mayweather I agree. I actually thought he lost against Trout. Point is, he may gave offense, (not enough tho IMO since he couldn't put Mosley away), but he doesn't have good enough DEFENSE to avoid all of the counters and overhand rights Floyd throws. Every fighter is accused of gassing out when really they stop throwing cuz they are eating too many counters and the same goes if this fight ever happens.

Of course GB is "negotiating" for a fight but the question is Floyd even bothering? Mark my words Floyd would never fight Canelo. If he ducked Pacquiao what more Canelo? I agree he will NEVER fight Canelo, but not cuz he's scared. Simply because we all know some judging in boxing is suspect and the winner could be determined by a popularity contest. Floyd is scared to lose his 0. He won't take any fight where the judges could pick a popular fighter as the winner. He learned his lesson with the split decision in the De La Hoya fight. If it were to happen, which it won't, Floyd wins every round. Canelo is a B+ fighter atm. He gets hit too much.

I don't think this fight will be a close one. The Viking Warrior hasn't been the same since he left the super six. I think it's an easy UD for Froch. I really hope Froch takes on Hopkins next, at any weight as he already agreed to move up to fight him. That's a good challenge for him and it would be an interesting fight where he could win. Ward outclasses him again in a rematch.

As much as I love Mosley, he needs to retire after this fight. Why would a future hall of famer want to be a stepping stone for other fighters? That is all he will be when he continues because he will. And sadly, I'm not sure he can even beat the guys trying to come up like the Garcias and Khans at this point.

I'm going to be honest. I've watched Broner for some time. Ever since his gift decision against De Leon, I feel Broner has grown into potentially being one of the best in the sport. That is until his fight against Paulie. He has now shown his true colors. Broner isn't smart enough inside and outside of the ring to be one of the best. He narrowly beat an opponent that he should've beat easily cuz he was messing around. Broner has some of the best physical skills to date, but doesn't have the mental skills to match. Why else would you call for the fans to pick your next opponent in a deep division, but then have many people not like him because of his shameful antics. He put himself in a position to have to fight some of the toughest guys out there because now some people want to see him lose. And to be honest, if he puts out another weak mental performance like he did against Paulie, he definitely will lose.

This guy's trolling for a reaction. Don't fall for it. If that's what you think I'm doing, go ahead and believe what you want. And you guys will be the same guys who bought into the hype with Ortiz and Mosley being too strong for Floyd. Buy the Lucas/Floyd fight if it happens but don't come crying to me when Floyd puts on a boxing clinic on Lucas because he isnt ready yet. And no, power isnt the equalizer, good boxing skills does, which Lucas is lacking. And FYI I'm not a Floyd fan, just speaking the truth.

I'd rather see Rios/Alvarado 3 than this garbage. On a side note, PAC isn't ducking anyone. The last two guys that beat him declined a rematch and Rios is a bigger draw than Alvarado. But it's still a garbage one-sided fight.

I love this fight for two reasons. 1. A win will put M.Garcia in line with the top tier opponents and I think he is ready. 2. Juanma can finally retire once he gets KTFO

No, I mean juanma KOs mikey in 6 with his signature sledgehammer right hook. Or he breaks mikeys nose and makes him quit on his stool. First off, Mikey's defense is solid where Juanma's is not. Only thing Juanma has going for him is his warrior heart. But he got laid out against Salido twice and even by garbage Concepcion (which he still won of course). No way he can withstand Mikey's offense. I don't think it even lasts the distance. Only chance Juanma has is by improving his defense, but he's too stubborn to change his style.

Broner makes Mayweather seem like a class act.

Idc as long as GB doesn't feed him a steady diet of bums like JCC and Canelo, assuming he signs with GB. Just stay away from the pantyhose!
