Lacy has enough power to end this fight before 12. Calzaghe is very skilled but I think Lacy will come away with the undisputed super middleweight championship.
longevity and improvement over the years give the over all edge to toney in my opinion, jones was great for a short time while toney has been excellent for a long time.
Jones was on top of the pound 4 pound list for almost a decade. Toney was the man when he first started, then he fell off the map for several years, then made a comeback when he got Freddie Roach in his corner. There was a period in time around '97 where Toney was horrible. You really can't give Toney credit for being good for a long period of time but you can give him ups for making a comeback and taking over right now.
his time passed to early in my opinion. he should have rematched toney, if that happened and he beat a toney that came to fight i would think of putting him at no. 1, but the record of 69 and 4 and counting is just to much for roy and hop, nobody fights like that anymore. james toney has a record like the guys did in the old days when they fought often and for many years. that speaks a lot to me in a time when guys retire after thirty or forty fights.
How can you say his time passed too early when he didn't get beat until after he turned 35? And that was after 50 professional fights! Are you kidding me? Toney's record is impressive but there is a lot more that goes into a record than numbers. Toney lost his fights at a time where he should have been at the top of his game. He would have been one of greatest of all time if he had his head on straight. But he didn't. Toney's style gives him longevity but Roy's in more about speed and reflexes which have deteriorated. Bottom line...Jones beat Toney at a time where both should have been in their prime. Legacy refers to the span of the career, not what have you done for me lately.
the fact that he has the ability to make a comeback, unlike roy is just another reason why toney tops the list.
Roy was dominant for so long he doesn't have to make a comeback to prove his point. Roy never fell off until his time had passed.
Last time I checked Roy beat the other two. Jones is past his prime but in his day he was one of the best to ever lace up the gloves. Just like Ali and Leonard, Roy's will be given more respect once the dust clears a few years after all is said and done. Don't get me wrong, all three deserve mad respect. Jones was the fighter of his era. The other two can't make that claim.
For the record, Brock vs. Vitali was pretty much a done deal back in the fall of '04 before Rahman and King filed suit. He's been more active than most heavyweights and will get his opportunity. We'll see what happens when he does.
Whats up Mr. Unstoppable? I havn't heard from you in a while.
Hey Truth...I know man, I've just been busy with my new job. Finally got a computer out here so hopefully I'll be a regular again. Hope all is well, homie
Yeah I have that show on tape and watched it not too long ago. The name was wishful thinking more than anything else. No one who fought on that card will ever contend for a title.
I'm going to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch it. Most of them are good about picking up Pay Per Views...they even had the Margarito one on last week and the one I go to.
Berbick and Spinks...
My favorite has to be the Michael Johnson fight they show on ESPN Classic all the time. It is fun watching the fro-mullet giggle when Mike cracks his skull. Hahaha...
Yeah yeah yeah...Tarver's had his day in the sun. It will all be over before too much longer. Same goes for Hopkins. Vitali wouldn't be able to land a shot on Roy. Roy would move and potshot his way to victory over a slow oversized Klitchko. And why shouldn't Roy get 30 mil to fight Vitali? I think an 8 inch difference in height and a 60 pound difference in weight is worth that much especially since Roy is a natural middleweight. What's funny is all you haters are hoping and praying that match isn't made because you know he probably would win and you'd have to hear about it until the day you die. Roy is the best fighter of this generation. Funny how you self proclaimed experts won't admit it.
It would probably be very similar to their first fight. I'm guessing a UD for Jones after a long 12 rounds. This would be a very interesting fight although it probably wouldn't be as exciting and live up to the hype.
Jones by KO. I think this fight will bring out more of the old entertaining Roy we are used to prior to the Ruiz fight. Roy takes down Johnson, then Tarver and Hopkins but I'm not sure about the order. I dont think Tyson or Klitchko are completely out of the picture either.
Vitali and Mike are both overrated and contrary to your belief, Roy knows they are beatable. Roy would like nothing better than to go out beating Tyson or winning the recognized heavyweight championship of the world. I think Tarver and Hopkins will definately happen but I assure you he has Mike and Vitali in the back of his mind.
Anytime Toney is on the tv, I'm watching. I think it is awesome that Toney is fighting on a cable network like Fox Sports Net. This should be great exposure for the sport.
I enjoy watching Chris Byrd and even though he doesn't knock people out like the general public likes to see, I think he is a tremendous role model and great for the sport. McCline was definately a game fighter last night and Byrd took his heat and wore him down. Byrd definately deserves a shot to unify the titles against Ruiz or Vitali but it is highly unlikely Don King would make that happen.
