Price can do a Wlad
David Price's 2nd fight with Tony Thompson reminded me of Wlad's 1st with Lamon Brewster. Punched himself out and seemed to lose all energy. If he can sort that out the way Wlad did, and use his size the way Wlad does to keep his chin clean, he can still have a very successful career.
Be serious George
Carl Froch has never ducked anyone for any reason so Groves has nothing to worry about there. What he needs to concentrate on is getting a win that would force himself into a prime position to challenge Froch, which he hasn't done yet. He needs to fight and beat one of the top 10 first: Abraham, Stieglitz, Stevenson, Bika, Oosthuizen, Bute, Rodriguez. Fight and beat one of those guys first and then you would be in a good position to challenge Forch. And I'm sure he'd take it. There would be a lot of money to be made in Britain with a creditable Groves challenging Froch on a top of the bill fight.
mmm, I'm a big fan of George Groves, I think he is way better than he gets credit for, but I am not liking this change in his personality. I don't really think trash talk suits him and he should just concentrate on knocking guys out and letting his fists do the talking. Clearly Eddie Hearn is looking to build up a rivalry between the two ahead of a future fight down the line and I think Hearn needs to be careful. The British public turned against James Degale when he started acting like an arse, It would be a shame to see Groves go down that road. For the most part the British public warm to likeable guys that they can identify with.
Anyway, for the record I think Groves has enough to beat Froch somewhere down the line, but not now, it really isn't a fight I'm interested in just yet and I suspect neither is Eddie Hearn. I would imagine Hearn plans to set up 2 or 3 more big fights for Froch, and then have a domestic superfight with Groves maybe late 2014/early2015 which could act as a handing over of the baton were Froch to lose.
Groves should go after the very beatable Stieglitz while Froch fights Ward. Then at the very least there would be a WBO title on the line for them to meet each other in the next fight after that.
Don't be daft
Boxing really doesn't need instant replays. How hard is it for a ref to count to 10? He said 9 as Malik started to get up, my guess is he figured he was in no shape to continue, and that's a call he's allowed to make. What you need is better refs, better judges and less corruption and bribary from promoters. You need a single sanctioning body that controls what happens rather than several bodies and several promoters all obsessed with one thing only: making money. Those people, as well as TV stations, are the ones who can change things, but they don't care, they like money $$$$$$$$$.
Tell it how it is
You can't argue with Fury. Wilder is 28-0 and was fighting Fraudley. How the heck is that a step up or a step forward? David Price fought Tony Thompson in his 16th fight, what is Wilder doing fighting Harrison at this stage of his career? It's ridiculous.
Great fight, but farce
I'm all for ordering match-ups between top ranked fighters so they actually face each other so I'm glad this is happening. But what a farce! Povetkin has already held the "regular" belt and then lost the unification fight with the "super" belt. So if he wins this, he'll get the regular belt again and have to fight Klitschko to unify the belts again. What a waste of time! Plus, please put Povetkin in the ring with Pulev and/or Fury.
The new Fraudley
How can this guy be called a prospect? Who has he fought? 28 fights and still he's never got in the ring with anyone anywhere near the top 20. GBP say he could fight this guy or that guy, but in the mean time they'll give him another easy fight... What a load of tosh, who's buying into this nonsense? Wilder is a farce, he'll get smashed the first time he gets in a ring with someone who punches back (which was why they put him in with Fraudley, the guy throows a jab every three rounds)!
Ridiculous stoppge
That fight should never have been stopped. Alexander has no power, all flashy fast slaps aimed at catching the judges' attention and scoring rounds, but nothing that even moved Purdy's head. He wasn't doing any damage and he'd never have knocked Purdy out in a month of Sundays. Purdy should have been given the chance to see it through.
