BoxingScene.com has been advised that the WBA has ordered former champion Alexander Povetkin (26-1) to face Luis Ortiz (20-0) for the WBA "regular" heavyweight title. Wladimir Klitschko is the super champion.
Povetkin previously captured the "regular" title when he defeated Ruslan Chagaev in 2011 and defended it four times before losing to Wladimir Klitschko last year. Ortiz, a decorated Cuban amateur, recently signed with Golden Boy and will be fighting for his world title.
Ortiz is ranked #2 while Povetkin is ranked #3 by the organization. Ortiz is scheduled to return the ring on April 3rd against an opponent to be determined.
