Then you must have never watched his fight with Jameel McCline, where he was dropped by a perfect shot by Jameel, beat the count and went to war with McCline. He was beating the larger McCline all over the ring and was close to putting him down in the final seconds of the same round. The round was scored 9-9 because Brock actually won it even with an early knockdown.
Yeah, I saw it. Jameel is no Wlad, though.
I'm not a fan of his either so what does it matter? Yeah, I would like to see if he can play with the big boys or if he will drop just like Wlad does when he gets popped.
the punch he put brock down was nothing more than an average shot
brock was leaning and off balance and got caught, he got up cause the punch wasnt even hard to enough to really hurt him, it just woke him up and without the KD he probably would have fought a pussy ass fight all the way through.
That's the way I remember it too.
Nope. I am more of a Joppy fan than Tito. Believe it or not buddy. I actually picked William for the upset in that fight, no matter how crazy it sounds.
I actually did the same thing.
I could go on and on all day on this topic. But I will stick to just a few things.
First, we need a commissioner. I am not talking about a dumbed down version per state either. I am talking a unanimous commissioner who has the right to revoke any boxer’s privileges world wide. Laugh if you want, but my first choice would be Oscar De La Hoya. He is probably the most honest and sincere person in boxing today. Let’s take the best we have to make this sport the best it can be.
Second, we need to be more consistent in judging. Start having judging classes so we can judge every fight the same (or on the same scale), or at least close to it. Let’s take the opinion of the judges more out of it and make judging more of a science. For example aggressiveness equals 50-60 percent, the cleaner shots give you 15-20 percent, power punches make up another 15-20 percent, and so on etc….
Let’s take all of these self employed assholes out of the game by making a governing body to the sport. Incorporate boxing so that assholes like Don King can go fuck themselves in Cleveland again.
Like I said I could go on all day, but the easiest way to see how to be a great sport is to look at the greatest sports and see what they are doing to be so successful. Take the NFL for instance, which is the greatest league in the United States by far, and use the foundation they have to become a strong league. It would be fun and fans would start believing in the integrity of the sport once again.
The sad part is that if boxing refuses to do this then their days are going to be over during the next 25 years or so.
the biggest i guess would be
Hopkins beating Tarver by UD12 - schooled the youngster
Winky Wright and Jermain Taylor - Draw - Winky may have had it won.
Pacman beat Larios in UD 12 in Manila.
just go to www.fightnews.com and scroll down to see all the latest.
I saw the Hopkins and Taylor/Wright fights.
Who aired the Pacman fight? I missed it.
Shit happens. Other sports have bad calls. If you only have one fighter to root for then i can see why this decision pisses you off. See you, alrato.
I don't root for Toney. I think he is arrogant and silly for not staying at Middleweight. He would have been one of the greatest fighters we have ever known at a lower weight. It’s the call that matters and it keeps happening. I refuse to be a part of it anymore.
I dont know man, by serious money you are talkin in the $millions, and I dont know who would put that kinda money on a crappy crap shoot fight like this.
I just think the judges are seein things differently, i guess im takin the glass half full approach.
I was thinking the same way you are about 6 months ago. It all went downhill fast for me though. Just tired of it. Unless they come up with a syatem that shows the scores to the fans after each round then you can count me out. There is just too many loopholes for someone to get paid off right now.
oh no doubt i agree with you that boxing is goin in the wrong direction, that it has somewhat killed off the casual fan, and is now getting close to doin the same with the hardcore fan as well.
This crap has been happening too often, at least 1 out of 4 or 5 big cards this year.
Im just trying to understand the rationality of Toney/Peters, cuz i cant make myself believe that a few BIG GAMBLERS can buy off judges that easily.
If anything, the WBC is being bought out.
How many people put money on Sam winning a decision? Hell, every poll I saw was either Toney by decision or Peter by knockout. This fight was fixed through those judges and there is no doubt in my mind. Two of the three were paid off and that’s exactly what it took for Peter to win it. 116-111 after the point deduction? Shit that’s enough for me. I’m done spending my time and money on the next coming of the WWE. I can’t stand wrestling so fans that are like me will start dying off very soon, if they haven’t already. Sorry to be so spiteful about this, but I think after all the years I have invested in boxing that I deserve the right to publicly complain. I thank this forum for giving me the right to do so.
ANY/EVERY up and coming boxer would die to get a title shot or big fight here in LA, Vegas, NY or other big cities.
Watch how fast that changes and has changed under our very own eyes. How many friends do you have now that are casual fans? I bet not nearly as many as you did say 10-20 years ago. That is what this sport has become. Boxing is 1st rate to serious fans but not even on the radar to the casual fan. The casual fan doesn't even exist in America anymore. People with too much money has ruined that. Most Americans think boxing is fixed. Just ask them. And they're probably right. I used to hope that wasn't so, but it is.
I dont know man, alott more people in American can relate to Toney better and pay to see him then they ever will for Peters, no matter how big he punches (didnt seem that big on Sat nite).
America doesn't matter anymore in boxing. Most Americans could care less who wins and there are only a few fans left here. The market has switched to oversees where many fans are piling in to see their country get their own stamp on the game. There is nothing left in America. Not to put American fans down, because they are great fans, but there are just very few left.
That sucks that you're done with boxing. There HAS to be something done about judging, they can't keep doing this. If they didn't do anything about it, boxing would lose fans REALLY fast.
I was not just the average fan. I had to know everything that happened in boxing. I am just tired of this crap.
I still dont see how/why Peters is more marketable then the BIG MOUTH, controversial, fairly famous Lights Out Toney.
If this is all a conspiracy to help further the career of Peters, it makes no sense. Peters is NOT an American, which is who/what we need to push forward now in the heavyweight ranks(Toney would make sense, have him be the American hero that saves boxing from the Soviets) since that sorry ass Rahman couldnt do it.
Peters is not the quality of fighter to be the next Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis or anything, so why throw away a decent, true somewhat old Toney, for a new guy who I doubt will ever be a biggg name.
?? enlighten me guys
It's about money. Someone had serious money on this fight and the judges had to be in on it. It's a disgrace. It's happening way too often lately too. Every now and then is a blemish, but this has become atrocious.
You will be back :boxing: they all come back muhahahahahah
Nah, this has officially done it. I'm tired of being a puppet in the stands. Too many times this sh!t has happened and I guess this was just the icing on the cake.
It's a shame too because I really love boxing, but unfortunately too many people who care more about their own pocket books have ruined this sport, at least in America. I guess they are going after money oversees now. A massacre to a great sport has taken place under our noses for years, yet we just cling on as everything is going to turn around. But instead boxing has become an alter ego of fake wrestling. All I can do is hang my head low and be embarrassed about it.
Take care and god bless.
:o
bye bye pussy!
A pussy would be someone who felt the way I do about the current state of boxing and didn’t have the balls to voice their opinion through words and actions.
So long and God bless.
The spelling of the word contender by the thread starter sucks a bit too. :D
He just has fat fingers.
:D I just can't help myself against this asshole. :moon:
That's just too high for hopkins to go. These Heavyweights with belts right now are just too big. Hop would have had a shot against Toney, but Toney has no belt.
i boxed for 11 years before my injury and thats when i gained a few pounds..im loseing weight though but back to the subject
ebo elder is a c- fighter and thats @ 135..this tournament is at 147
A few pounds my ass!
Sorry but I couldn't resist coming out of retirement for that one. :D
Hey Dino, show us your :boobies:
:asshole:
While I am fond of the heavyweight division, I don't really consider Marciano to be a true heavyweight given his short stature, which, at 5'11" 185 lb, he would even be considered small for Cruiserweight in this day and age.
Talk about fighting for the wrong side here. Doesn’t this make all of Rocky’s accomplishments even more amazing considering he was much shorter and lighter than most of his opponents and he would not even be heavy enough to be a heavyweight today?
In October 1951, Rocky Marciano, with a 37-0 record, built largely on easy opposition, he met up with ex-heavyweight champion, Joe Louis, who by this time was 37-years-old, balding and fighting for the very last occasion. Sadly, Marciano beat the great champion, stopping Louis in the 8th round. However, despite losing, Louis had his moments in the fight, connecting frequently with his still powerful right hand to the head of Marciano, who looked dramatically smaller than the 6'2' 213 lb, Louis.
The bold says it all. This is a biased writer and it shows throughout the entire article.
I am not going to waste my time going through the whole damn thing like this as I am sure most people can see an amateur is writing this.
Actually, Tarver did get some respect from me about how he acted after he lost to Hopkins, but the whole Roy Jones win (and how he got his 15 minutes of fame) was just too much for me. I believe that you need to act like you have been there before and Tarver did not do that when he beat Roy. He has shown some class but he has also shown some very immature and very unprofessional ways of dealing with things. That’s just my opinion anyway.
It’s a shame, because if he knew any dignity at all, well the boxing world would have been a better place. Too bad for him and even more important, too bad for all the boxing fans around the world. Because they (the fans) deserve better. We all deserve better than how Tarver chose to use his 15 fucking minutes. So all in all, screw him, because he got what he deserved, in the end. And it is the end of Tarver.
Is this a fucking joke? In no way was Rocky the best of all time, but good lord. He was probably about as overrated as Ali, if there is such a thing.
With this writer, or so called, writers view anyone can be overrated. Hell Forman lost to Ali and Ali lost to Frazier, who by the way was manhandled by Foreman. They must have all been overrated because they lost, or came close to it on a few occasions.
If you ask most people who was greater between Ali and Rocky, they will tell you Ali, so I don’t know how that makes a guy who finished his career undefeated, overrated.
Talk about running out of things to write about.
It doesn't make Rocky's accomplishments even more: Marciano usually fought guys that were considered "Top guys" that were around his weight...the guys that were over 200lbs, which were not that many , were not "top" fighters, at least not that I know of. {if you can tell me the fighters that were noted as in their "Prime" and were "Top" guys over 200lbs, please state}
We can still go on what he did, and that is to beat everybody that was put in his path.
I still think it is hard to judge him among the "Greats" of the Heavyweight division when you are talking about some of the bigger guys over 200 pounds.
If he would of beaten a few, maybe even one, legit, big, Prime, Heavyweight over 200lbs, it would be a bit easier, but he wasn't in the right time.
When talking about "Size", it usually can make the difference, but sometimes a "Great" fighter can come along that isn't the same size and beat the crap out of the bigger fighter; you also have to remember that sometimes size can work against you.
You’re talking in circles. If size of a fighter doesn’t matter, in your opinion, then why would you want to see Rocky beat guys over 200 pounds before you would call him legit?
There is just too much hate and biased opinion coming from the people trying to discredit Rocky. It’s pretty damn blatant and evident too. Who cares what origin Rocky came from? I don’t give a rat’s ass.
The point is that it really doesn't matter what size Rocky was. He finished his career 49-0 with 43 knockouts. That's pretty damn amazing. I am not a fan of his nor do I take any pride in any of his accomplishments. Hell, I never even saw him fight live. I have only seen the old films, as have most of us here.
The bottom line is that no one should even try to take anything away from Rocky. He was tough and the people loved him. He fought everyone in his time so what the hell else matters?
Winky was really trying to just touch-n-hide.
I would not go that far. Winky, for the most part, was coming at JT. His punches were not as hard, but they were clean.
I don't think he could have. Winky has a very good chin. Taylor may have dropped him a few times, if his eye didn't swell up from those headbutts, though. Winky is a warrior and he can take a lot of good shots. With his defense, I just don't see anyone knocking him out.
