Its like any round in any fight between two such styles. You score it in accordance with how you perceive boxing.
If you go for the guy who is aggressive and throws more leather then you give it to Hatton.
If you go for the guy who lands the cleaner shots then you give it to Mayweather.
This is and always will be a contention in boxing.
Mayweather could not possibly have underestimated Hatton. His performance shows clearly that he must have prepared for this like no other fight.
He was getting better and better as the fight went on and looked like he could have maintained it for fifteen rounds never mind 12.
In previous fights i have seen him in he has looked to get tired at times, but not tonight.
Although i think Floyd would win this fight at any weight after seeing this i don't think Ricky should fight this weight again.
his two worst performances have come in the welterweight division. Floyd can move weights because of his shear speed and defences but when you are a brawler that does not have exceptional punching power you just can't hurt the bigger guys.
I think RJJ gives Benn the same kind of treatment he dished out to James Toney.
That said you cant get careless against Benn because its when he is hurt that he is at his most dangerous.
Roy Jones would have to be motivated for that fight and not get cocky, because when Benn hits em they usually stay hit.
Hey doesn@t anyone here rate Ricky Hattons Body shot. I think he has more knockouts via body shot than most boxers in the world today.
If he doesn't knock you out with it then he retires you on your stool from the constant pounding. Ask Kosta Tyzu.
OOPS. Sorry everyone. Now i see more of the thread and quite a few have mentioned it.
I go for Roy Jones. He fought an at the time unbeatable James Tony to the point that it lookked like a mismatch.
He beat Mike McCallum who i consider one of the best ever and most untalked about great boxers in the middleweight division.
He beat the legendary Bernard Hopkins with ony one hand good enough to fight with because he didn't want to postpone.
All that said i have great admiration for Floyd for moving through the weights and and going for the best every time.
Its not his fault that these guys dont have the stature of the great middleweights that Roy fought.
He is right to some extent. There were less versions of each belt up for grabs in Haglers day meaning that there was more chance of 2 big fighters clashing.
Also here in the UK since sattelite and cable tv became big, many fighters go unrecognised.
In the old days when we had just 3 channels the whole of britain got to see the likes of Sugar Ray Leanard, Nigel Benn, Thomas hearns, Chris Ubanks, and they became household names. People knew who they were even if they didnt follow boxing.
All that changed once the big fights went to sattelite, and the likes of Roy Jones jnr, Joe Calzache, Bernard Hopkins are unknown names to most brits.
I remember this one time back in the Eubanks, Collins, Benn days i was in a pub watching the WBO title fight between Collins and Eubanks and everyone was raving about collins being the best middleweight because he won the fight.
It never occured to them that The WBO was the weakest title at the time and that the best middleweights was holding the WBC, WBA and IBF belts.
I pointed out to this guy standing next to me that Collins would be no match for Roy Jones Jnr, and he said "Who is Roy Jones, If he was any good he would allready be there" !!!!
This is after the Toney Jones fight, and after Roy Jones has been declared P4P the best boxer on the planet.
this is why you sometimes here Brits make too much out of British boxers. Unless they are hardcore boxing fans who will dig into their pockets to watch pay per view, they are local ITV fights only watchers and they just simply don't know what the hell they are talking about.
I am a brit btw.
Well I was one of the brits who said that Floyd Mayweather would be worn down by Hatton's relentless pressure, but he is such a class act that he Ricky could not hit his body or his chin.
I have never seen a boxer that could defend both body and head like that.
He was just as good inside as he was standing off.
He was the full package tonight and proved he is the best pound for pound on the planet today.
I hope he doesn't retire just yet.
The brittish commentary team were harping on about Ricky not being a true welterweight which is true but based on tonight the difference in class is too big for Ricky to win this fight at any weight
Floyd was a real gentleman after the fight and i think would have been no different even if he had lost.
One thing Floyd mayweather did during the fight i don,t know if you all noticed but he defended his body every bit as well as his head.
Nearly all of Ricky's trademark body shots hit Floyds elbows.
I have never seen any boxer do that before. It was like he had four arms to fight with against Ricky's 2.
Accurate punching and no part of him available to hit, even close up. How are you supposed to fight against such a supreme athlete as that.
I was one of the brits who thought Mayweather can only win on points or by cutting Ricky, but he has shown tonight that he has power as well as speed.
I think he must have taken this fight a lot more seriously than he let on because the tactics were perfect for spoiling the plans of any brawler.
He reminded me of Roy Jones junior in his prime tonight.
