What would be the point of a catchweight that you can miss and still fight for the title? There would be no tangible punishment for missing the weight.
Money, I doubt Miguel wants to miss out on that big payday. I'm not sure if it's even possible but I'm sure the wbc could be convinced to not award Canelo the title, even if he wins, if he misses weight. In that case cotto would get paid and keep his title even if he lost.
This is typical. When a challenger misses weight, the champion has the right to refuse the defense of his title, and still have the fight.
I only used marquez as a comparison because in that fight he didnt get discouraged even after getting KD, he still kept coming.
I think that the main problem was that pac actually trying to outbox may most of the time when he should of been trying to use angels and throw combos.
Pac actually had some success when he threw combos, making may shell up a couple of times, he just didnt do it any where near enough.
I think the problem for Manny was he was becoming more and more frustrated with having to close the distance. He paid for it all night. It also took him a lot more time then he is use to, as Floyd controlled the distance so well. So by the time Manny was inside, Floyd was gone.
What did you think he would look like against Soliman? Tell me. Have you ever even watched Soliman before?
The guy had one leg and he still couldn't take him out.
He obviously beat the count. WTF is up with that? What the **** DID I JUST SEE!? Why would you take someone's 0 because of that!?
He didn't beat the count. Why was he trying to get up on 9 anyways? It is why he doesn't beat the count.
The count was 10.. the refs fingers were wrong though
No, his figures were right. The problem was he counted six on his thumb, and didn't keep it out, so it was a bit confusing. But he was also saying the count.
Doesnt justify Danny fighting Salsa, that was a black eye to the sport. But lucas acts like if he was robbed or something againts Danny. And Danny prooved to be the better fighter. He took Mathysses best shots and outboxed him for the majority of the fight.
Mathysse vs Broner sounds more interesting and if he wins then he is lined up to fight for the titles. Danny needs to fight a top fighter next though. Peterson at 140 is acceptable, Guerrero or Alexander at 147 also are good fights
So he shouldn't mind fighting Lucas again.
This is all on Oscar. He couldn't keep his life together or his business. It is not like he made it hard for Haymon and Schaefer to do this. And lets be real for a moment, GBP didn't matter without Schaefer and Haymon. So really, I can't feel bad for Oscar on this one.
spoken like a true floyd fan......
I am a Floyd fan. I am also a Manny fan, and was a big fan of Oscar growing up. None of this changes how poorly Oscar has handled everything here.
Like I said, keep doubting and he will keep winning. He will do this to a top 140 guy. He has already won at 140 on 2 weeks' notice, he was the underdog and dominated the fight rather easily.
And if he does it, great for him. And if he gets his butt kicked, we will get all the, "he'll be back" threads full of excuses. :D
Great win for Crawford, yes he is naturally the bigger man but I don't think that had as much effect on the fight as people are saying. The fight was not rough neither guy used his strength or size to push the other back, it was a clean fight in that sense. Gamboa lost because he was not using defence at all. If you watch the fight you will see every knockdown that occured Gamboa was ridiculously open for the shots.
It clearly had an effect.
Hey great post man. No one forced him to take the fight. He looked like a million bucks early on so I can't accept that as an excuse. He just faced a guy that could adapt and switch it up tonight. I'd give you green but I'm all tapped out for today.
It is not an excuse. It just doesn't say much about Crawford's performance. It was thrilling, that doesn't mean it proved anything.
Umm, Crawford don't fight at 140 yet. But hey if you wanna keep setting the goal posts back Crawford will be reigning 140 in the next couple years.
Correct me if I am wrong, but all the talk tonight was about him moving up. He also came in at 152 for the fight. I don't expect him at 135 for much longer.
OK, keep doubting and he will keep winning. Arum isn't putting this kind of stock in him because he is a fluke. Bradley said he was better than almost any pro he had ever sparred against. Take that for what it's worth but this guy is the goods and he won't be going away anytime soon.
Never said he was a fluke, but the idea that this fight shows he is a future P4P guy? Yeah, I don't see it. If he did this to a top guy at 140, then we are talking. But that has to happen first.
Russell indeed was missing a lot of shots. But he was landing too, but with a lot of pitty-pat crap. Didn't have power to them, just pitty pats that landed. Loma landed the clear hard work. But he took off a lot of rounds.
I think if Loma was busier and more aggressive, he could've gotten Russell out of there. Instead, Russell looked like the aggressor for a lot of rounds (which was kinda ridiculous).
Did you miss the punch stats? Russell was hitting air all night.
Kamegai is giving this a fantastic effort, but you have to feel he will break before this is over. The shots of him in the corner do not look great. But I'd love it if he proved me wrong and pulled this off.
