daaaaaam. this fight should have stopped after the first knock down. he landed another 10-15 clean shots on a defenseless fighter. could have easily been a fatality. the ref was still counting while the medics were in the ring treating the boxer.
Whitaker was never a big puncher but he KO'd Hurtado in a pretty nasty manner. And I remember when Butterbean KO'd some stupid wrestler at Wrestlemania who tried to box with him. That was a KO so harsh it was hard to cheer for.
All those left hooks...ouch.

It doesn't look like this guy had very much training in boxing. lol. On the second knockdown (he never should have got up from the first) he looked like he was a child reaching out for some candy before his head snapped back from that boulder that slammed into it.

LOL, I played Hurling a gaelic sport sort of like hockey but much tougher, I got smacked in the head with the hurley (the stick) and knocked out
I was vacant all day afterwards. I went home put a Pizza in the oven and would have burn't the house down if my sister hadn't returned. I didn't even remember putting a pizza in the oven or notice the smoke. I was fucked.
lol.
So yeah I can cut this guy some slack. Dangerous shit I think,
man, thank God for your sister! lol. the brain is a very important part of a fully functioning human being.
Wiki:
There is actually very little known about what exactly causes a knockout but many agree it has to do with minor trauma to the brain stem. This usually happens when the head rotates sharply, often caused by a strike. A common misconception is that a knockout is caused by compression put on the carotid arteries in the neck restricting blood flow, but this is in fact how a choke out works. A basic principle of boxing is to defend against this vulnerability by keeping both hands raised about the face.
A fighter who suffers a concussion and becomes unconscious from a strike with sufficient knockout power is referred to as having been knocked out or kayoed (KO'd). Losing balance without losing consciousness is referred to as being knocked down ("down but not out"). Repeated blows to the head are known to gradually cause permanent brain damage, with Alzheimer- or Parkinson's-like symptoms, and in severe cases may cause strokes or paralysis. This is commonly known as becoming "punch-drunk". Because of this, many physicians advise against sports involving knockouts.
There are also many boxers whose speech has slurred heavily too (many local unknown fighters as well). Boxing has to be the most brutal sport in the world because of all the blows to the brain.
Why don't more fighters take a knee as soon as they get hurt. Wouldn't that be the logical thing to do--unless the fighter has been hurt so badly that the brain rejects logic all together.
Yep, but it's not the worst
1.Auto racing
2.Sky diving
3.BMX riding
4.Freestyle motocross
5.Luge
6.Bull riding(is that what its called?)
7.Surfing(SHARKS!)
8.Horse racing(would'nt be nice to get stomped on!)
9.Mountain biking
10.Fencing
Yeah, those sports are definitely dangerous too. Any time death is a possibility, the sport is dangerous. The thing about boxing is that thousands of blows to the brain is a CERTAINTY and with most other sports a possibility.
I've never been knocked out, but I reckon sometimes because you're "Not with it" you carry on standing.
Interesting question though. The closest I've been to being knocked out was in a car accident where i rolled the car on its roof, the firemen were laughing when they pulled me out from the car because I pulled the handbrake so the car wouldn't roll, even though the car was on its roof. The brain does strange when you've had a bang on the head.
I can imagine it takes a lot for a boxer to volunteer taking a knee in a fight. It's not something they train for, its a guaranteed deduction in points on the scorecards, and like you said they may not be able to think straight at that particular moment.
I remember my friend got his "bell rung" playing football in high school one time and he immediately started scooping and playing with the dirt on the field where he lay like he was a little kid.
lol. that was the last time i saw mike in a video game.
also i heard they discontinuing fight night for ps3/xbox360. i cant afford either system right now but back in the day the ONLY reason i bought the ps2 was for fight night online. i remember i came home from work one friday and played the entire weekend online until monday morning. i stopped only to get sleep. went back to work with a blister on my thumb. lol.that was my game.
motherfuckers on fight night online cheat hard as hell though. they either have the controller setup for buttons instead of analog sticks which its easy as hell to mash and get combos off or they'll keep kneeing and headbutting right at the bell which they don't take points for.
true, alot of cheating sometimes. back on the ps2 fight night, people would disconnect their online connection right before the get KO'd so the loss wouldnt be on their record. i hate when people depend on glitches to win. even still, that game was fun as hell. its too bad they discontinuing it.
It was a fatality!
Yeah, I know Benny Paret died. I was speaking about the fight between Johannson vs. Machen that "themanchine" posted. I was saying that this fight could have been a fatality too. Go back to the statement that you responded to and check out that KO above the statement. The ref was waaaay late on this fight too.
Mercer / Morrison.
but i was left gawping at the telly after Lewis turned Hasim's face inside out.
lewis could of knocked out an elephant with that 2 piece. lol

wow that video is actually a bit distressing to watch..... sad stuff
yeah it is. fans get upset with "early" stoppages but the boxers have to be protected to some degree. when a boxer dies, it puts things into a totally different context.
I don't think so because Robinson had said he studied hours of footage of Fullmer's fights and noticed that Fullmer had a bad habit of dropping his right hand on the way in, he timed that left hook to perfection.
A mention should also go to Mike McCallum knocking out Donald Curry with a beautiful left hook.
Yes, it was definitely a perfectly calculated left hook.
Curry landed a nice left hook before taking a nicer one himself.

As far as 1 punch KO's go. Not many can beat Marciano vs Walcott 1 and Robinson vs Fullmer 2.
It looked like walcott was VERY concerned about getting hit. to move straight back like that rather than throwing the jab and getting off the ropes. BOOOOOM!!!!http://youtube.com/watch?v=M9msELiZKyU
I think Fullmer forgot all about Robinson's left hand after taking those two consecutive right hooks to the body before he was dropped by the left. http://youtube.com/watch?v=2jeZIyjxss4
Although there were some worse ones already mentioned, I would have to say Ruddock vs. Dokes was right up there.
It was a scary KO. Dokes was already out cold and the ropes were holding him up. The ref was coming in to stop it but Ruddock cold cocked him once more with a left hook.
Dokes actually needed help to start breathing again after that KO.
yeah, you right. Dokes was out cold but the ropes held him up. Ruddock got some serious leverage with that last left hook that he landed. Ref was late on this one too.

Emile Griffith knocking out and tragically killing Benny Paret.
Yeah, I have to agree, those blows were serious. I imagine the gloves were much thinner back then.
