BEcause Ali has a different style to Pacquiao he's not Greater??
If Muhammad Ali got into the ring, hit his opponent once, and then proceeded to run out of the ring and catch a flight to France or handcuff his opponent for the rest of the fight, would he have still won in your eyes?
Paquiao fights tailor made fighters and when he fought a counter puncher he got exposed TWICE
By JMM
Muhammad Ali was exposed by Joe Frazier twice (three times if it weren't for the referee letting Ali hold Frazier behind the head a zillion times), Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, and more when you consider his lesser wins (such as when he was getting the tar smacked out of him in Patterson II before Patterson had the cut on his eye). I'd say that Ali has been beaten far more times than Manny.
Proof Pacquiao can't handle counter punchers
Proof Ali can't handle any of the types he's lost to.
Pacquiao has no defence and no piunch accuracy.
He gets hit too often.
He only landed 19% of his punches vs Joke fighter Clottey
I think Manny's defense is fine from what I've seen. Excellent head movement, excellent counters, and excellent resilience. Muhammad Ali's defense is to run away or hold the entire fight and even that often didn't work for him (once again, go over the previously listed names). Ali sure got hit too often in Patterson II and all three Frazier fights, not to mention in his other losses. You seem to forget this.
Ali's Resume >>>>>>> Pac
Ali's Skill >>>>>>>>> Pac
Ali's Chin >>>>>>> Pac
More like:
Ali's Resume > Pac's.
Pac's skill > Ali's
Ali's chin > Pac's.

Pacquiao got KTFO twice.
Get Lost twice to JMM
He lost to a weight drained Morales.
He duckes slick fighters.
Ali fought every style of fighter.
He beat 7 hall of famers.
ATG's Liston twice, Foreman, Patterson twice, Frazier twice, Norton twice, Jerry Quarry twice, Bonavena, Shavers, Lyle
Meanwhile Padquiao fought joke David Diaz and ducked Joel Casamayor
He fought joke CLottey and ducked Mayweather by claiming he is suspicous to chicken bones

Pacqtards like you are stupid
I'm not a Pactard. I don't even really like him all that much. Muhammad Ali ran and held through his whole career. You can beat every ATG in history 100 times over but if you do it via running and holding it means nothing. Nothing you ever say can chance that, and Pacquiao's cons can't change that either.
I'll copy and paste my answer from when I frequented another boxing forum:
Tyson didn't rape Desiree Washington. Read up on it in some Tyson books, especially the one by Peter Heller. She had a history of claiming rape, even as a teenager when she was ashamed of herself and afraid of her father's judgement of her having sex. Not to mention the only evidence she had of rape were to abrasions on her vagina (which happens when a 220 pound man has sex with a 90 pound girl, especially Mike Tyson, as he was known to like rough sex), and her half-assed story of rape (which changed multiple times and was full of holes). You mean to tell me a woman is going to get raped at 2 AM in a hotel room and not a peep is going to be heard?
While in prison, Tyson wrote a letter to his friend who happened to be an ESPN boxing commentator/interviewer. It went roughly "I'll never admit to raping that woman, even if it lessens my time in here, because I just didn't do it. However, there are about 5-7 other things I've done in my life which are far worse than that for which I am in prison for, so I feel I'm in the right place."
The real story is that Mike treated her like he treated every other woman- wham, bam, thank you mam. In Desiree's mind, the final straw was when he didn't walk her back to the limo (the limo driver testified that Disiree was in a pissy mood and quoted her as saying "Who does he think he is?"). On top of that, Don King believed that Tyson needed to become a "martyr for the blacks" or something rather, and assigned his tax attorney to defend Mike in the rape trial, because behind closed doors, Don King thought the black community would see Tyson as a martyr of some sort.
Edit - I'd love to stick around for more discussion but I have to sign and submit some legal papers.
Pacquiao is greater, to be honest.
Ali beat his opponents by literally running away from them the whole match or holding them if they got too close. His other method of fighting when he couldnt' do that was to simply stand there and get the crap beat out of him (Frazier, Patterson II, Foreman). No skill in either of his ways. Other than being able to take one hell of a punch in his rope-a-dope years, I have never been impressed with Ali.
Ali is the most overrated boxer ever and it seems people only lick the sweat off his nuts because all the other people are licking the sweat off of his nuts and it's not cool if you don't lick the sweat off his nuts with the other people who are licking the sweat off of his nuts. A runner and holder compared to a fighter and warrior. You can have the greatest resume in the world but if you beat all of your opponents by running and holding then it voids it in my eyes. Pacquiao is greater and I'm not even much of a Pacquiao fan.
After looking up Mikkel, I have to say that without the tattoos and occasional funny haircut, he's tied with Sergio easily. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Mr. Froch.
Well Omar Henry @ the start of his career looked like a Miguel Cotto now he is like a Mike Tyson. But lets hope he gets his own look with a mix between Cotto and Tyson
Just looked up a few of his matches. Now that's what I'm talking about. This guy could go places, just needs some work on his defense and head movement. Excellent prospect from the looks of it. A great example.
LOL, thanks for all the names guys. I'll look up every single one of them later tonight. Any more? Skills' post half-late post about David Lemieux makes me think the list could be forgetting some.
I don't want to ruin your thread. As you said you werent looking for the perfect clone I'm okay with it.
But Mike is 1 in 7 billions. A freak of nature.
Very true, and acknowledged by me. That's why I said "but all of these together make for a short nominee list". :D I guess what I'm looking for are fighters of today I can take interest in watching who are aggressive "come forward" fighters who also have and maintain excellent defense while doing it. So far the only one I've taken a heavy interest to is David Tua starting some years ago.
There's too many fights NOT being made.

You hit the nail on the head, man. All things honest, I don't think I'll ever be a happy boxing fan. Not only for the quoted reason but for other reasons as well. It's a hard sport to keep loving and dedicating time and thought to.
Yup. Read it the other day when it first came out in the news. It doesn't matter because I already knew it though. You mean to tell me that a major corporation would market sugar water as healthy? No way!
Looks to be just an awkward effect of the camera angle or lighting settings. I can't imagine what kind of injury would do that or what kind of surgical remedy would leave a hand looking like that. Makes me think of a guy I saw last year who had mouth cancer and had to have his mouth operated on. He ended up resembling Kermit the Frog. He was a cool guy anyway though.
I'd never shell out more than $10 for a PPV. And PPVs should have good undercards. They should also be limited to mega-fights between two elites. Other than that, all matches should be on ESPN or the likes. It's a real annoyance and part of why boxing is next to worthless and a waste nowadays.
Yes. As long as there is a money precedent backed by extreme greed and corruption along with no honest oversight it will be the same from here until it shrinks away into nothing. Corruption, greed, and demand for high revenue and cowardice are here to stay and with that so is the downfall of boxing. Depressing, isn't it? Burp.
I remember months ago rumors floating around Calzaghe had been doing the same. What ever happened to Brits just drinking alot in pubs?
Not sure. It seems a lot of people who go down this path do so because they want sympathy and to be considered a "martyr" of sorts. Oh well, nothing much you can do.
There is a reason cocaine/drugs are illegal. They are bad for you, your life, your health, your well-being, and it leads to downfalls in both a person's life and the economy. The government doesn't go around making random things illegal just so they can whack off. No offense, but if you need people on a boxing forum to tell you why cocaine is bad then you have a lot of life still left to live. I guess the overall reason people are mad is because Hatton doing cocaine is about the same as Hatton drinking Drano. It's just him tarnishing his legacy and accomplishments without a care. Lowest of the low, right next to him physically sh!tting on them.
Yup. It's a real tragedy. What's most retarded is the politics and petty talk and what not. "Oh my God, I heard he was backing out of that fight?" - "Oh man, I heard he thought 10 ounce gloves were too big and he wanted 8 ounce or he's backing out." - "I heard Haye was in negotiations for that fight." - "Kelly Pavlik says that ____ cant' beat _____."
All that petty talk is so stupidly funny. I can leave boxing for six months and come back and hear the same old stuff with the same old names. Rather than just put some gloves on and step in the ring, everyone involved wants to put some "drama" or petty **** in it. ****ing put the gloves on and step in the ring. Fighters nowadays fight less per year than old people have sex. So much petty and ridiculous crap. "I heard he was in negotiations for that fight." - "Oh, I heard he was backing out." - "He backed out due to a knee injury." - "He's in negotiations for this fight."
LOLOLOLOLOL
It's like a boxing match can be compared to two drivers in a parking competition and people are standing around waiting for it and going "Oh man, I heard that Berto is threatening to back out if he doesn't get a specialized gas cap installed on his parking car." or "Oh man, Mayweather wants an extra three weeks to repaint his car he's going to be using."
It's all so dramatic nowadays. It's to the point of being embarrassed to admit in a social discussion that you follow boxing. The old-timers must be rolling over in their graves.
Used to be hardcore for a couple years, now I'd say I just watch the big fights, maybe. I was really into it for some time but then even after trying not to, I got tired of how stupid and petty the headlines are and how pussed out all the fighters always are. Not to mention having to wait a year and a half to have people fight, and more often than not the fight being boring. After reading enough petty headlines like " says: I know my opponent likes lollipops so when I knock him out I'll be sure to give him one!" and other silly crap I just though "Wow...people actually read through this crap daily for about a year and a half and even obsess over it to unimaginable levels, waiting just to see two guys hit each other for a maximum of 36 minutes...I can't do this anymore." I hate to insult the sport but it insults itself enough. I still love it for training three times a week and self defense though, and I still love watching the old fighters but other than that it's just ruined.
