I'm going with Fury to be the standout. If he bests Klitchko in a better fashion than the first fight and he beats the winner of Povetkin vs Wilder then there can't be any other standouts.
Now if we are talking about the young guys stepping up and putting the division on notice in 2016 then Parker or Joshua are your guys.
I'd throw Ortiz in the mix too but I see him having trouble getting fights after the job he did on Jennings.
I expect 2017 to be a better year though.
I would love to see that fight. I even mentioned it in a thread yesterday.
I think it would be a great fight and since Parker has the quicker hands I'd back him to win it.
Here's the problem. He only turned 24 a week or so ago. If he was to lose, he will find it hard to build himself back up again in this era of protecting the 0 on your record. There isn't really much to gain by fighting someone smaller than him in the division of the giants. Haye is back for the pay days so I don't think he will take the fight anyway.
Parker fights Wilders sparring partner on Saturday which will make that 6 fights in 10 months. He needs a break and a reset of his career path. He needs to step up against tougher opposition but doesn't need to fight the best in the division for at least 18 months to 2 years anyway.
As much as I'd like to see the fight and I really do, at this stage of Parkers career it's unnecessary.
Anthony Joshua and Parker need to go down the same paths because they could be the top of the division in a few years but there is no need to rush them.
Just my 2c
This is the first time in a long time I'm actually starting to get excited about boxing again!!
I'm a HW fan first and boxing fan second, so now that Fury has taken out the champ and all these up and comers like Joshua and Parker etc coming onto the scene, it's actually getting far more exciting!!
We just need to see some fights made. Fury vs Wilder. Ortiz vs Ustinov. Wilder vs Povetkin. Ortiz vs Povetkin.
Parker and Joshua need to step up a bit.
HW could be awesome if the fights get made.
But that's the question.... will the fights actually get made?
I like him. He said what he needed to say whilst being respectful to Joshua at the same time.
Hope he can get a decent fight next but I think it will be another below par opponent because he's fighting in New Zealand.
His promoter is seriously sub par. He needs to move to someone who has some cash to put up for a good fight.
Because people only appreciate boxers KOing the Whyte, Martin, Molina, Dehaupas,
It's a strange world we live in. Everyone complains about mismatches and wants competitive fights and when actually get one they are disapponted and the fighters just aren't very good because there was no spectacular knock out.
It was a good fight where the seasoned pro was essentially beaten by pure speed and athleticism mixed with some skill and desire.
These are the fights Parker needs in order to improve and if he can improve on the negatives he will be a major player in the division.
He needs to shorten his combos and use his jab more. If he can learn to get in with his jab and throw a 2/3/4 punch combo and then get out and tie up on the ropes he can be a force
He can take a punch which is good because I can't see him becoming a defensive genius but with the tools he has, he can reach the top echelon. I can also see him taking a loss and coming back up when he's 28/29.
I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses.
I'm pumped about this fight. I've had my eye on Parker for a while and I'm looking forward to this step up. This is a real fight and should be a real back and forth type of battle. I'm going with Parker by late stoppage or UD but I wouldn't be shocked by any result. Takam is a tough dude and looks in great shape too.
What more could boxing fans ask for? We got 2 Heavyweights in extremely good shape ready to put on a show!! Certainly beats talking about ppv numbers, catchweights and ducking!!
Fact is there seems to be 3 merging young HW's. Right now Joshua has to be in the lead as he did beat an undefeated Charles Martin to win the title in impressive fashion.
Hughie Fury and Parker's records are about the same and you could make a case for either guy.
However what I personally don't think is up for debate is that Carlos Takam is CLEARLY the most dangerous opponent any of those 3 have faced and by some margin.
Should Parker beat him and in impressive fashion then I think he has to take the lead in the resume stakes regardless of who holds belts etc.
Just finished reading all 18 pages and this post sums it all up.
I'd also add that the Takam Povetkin fight wasn't anywhere near cagey haha
The Boxing Rant is one of my favorites. Seems to be the most professional. I used to listen to TBV but Nes is a tool and his callers sound like they were dropped on their heads as babies and can barely string a sentence together.
Fox Sports 5 will show Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker v Jason Bergman + Saturday's full card from Samoa live #boxing pic.twitter.com/Mz9UZdGhPl— Ben Damon (@ben_damon) January 18, 2016
Its Fox Australia tho.
Thanks for putting that up. I'm predicting a round 2 KO. Parker is on the way up. I just hope that they don't rush him. He's still so young so no need to rush.
Parker by late KO. Parker will use his speed and jabs to good effect which will frustrate Takam into walking into a big uppercut or left hook.
I was 50/50 when I heard the fight was ordered by the ibf but after watching the Thompson and Povetkin fights again I'm not as high on Takam as I was 12 months ago.
Whyte is terrible. Open your eyes people!!! Struggled against Chisora who many thought won the fight. Struggled against Helenius who had a week to prepare. Looked bad against Lewison and Dave Allen.
For the grand finale.... got his head smashed off by AJ!!!
Whyte Sucks donkey nuts!!!!!!
I'd actually take Parker in that fight. He's younger and faster with a decent punch and a good chin. Until I see Haye fight somone with a pulse then I can't judge where he's at. Haye will try to out box him and land one big punch to finish it but I don't think that will work. I just think Haye looks too heavy and is only back for the payday against AJ. I hope Hearn tells Haye that if he wants the AJ fight he has to fight Parker first.
Let's see how much Haye wants it.
It's really simple. There's no effing way that Fury should be rewarded by fighting like that!!!
It's going to be extremely difficult for Fury to get fights after that performance.
He doesn't have a big following and his fights are always terrible so I doubt anyone will willingly fight him.
Boxing is a sport but it's also meant to be entertaining and that showing was awful.
Parker didn't look too good tonight. He looked disinterested and expected Bergman to be a walkover but all credit to Bergman for hanging in there. He's a tough dude and can see why Wilder brought him in for sparring before the Szpilka fight.
A few months off for Parker and hopefully a step up to top 20 competition to see where he's really at in the division.
Oh FFS.
Christchurch? What decent step up fighter is he going to be able to get to Christchurch?
I'm a massive fan of Parker but I'm not sure Barry and Duco are going to get him to where he needs to go.
Some people have started calling him a hypejob, and think that he needs to fight some real competition NOW !!
Props to you for being smarter than them.
He is obviously not ready to step up to the top level yet, he clearly still has a lot to learn.
A year ago he was abandoning his gameplan and fighting his opponents fight.
They should give him time, simply because they can.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
The problem is the fans themselves.
Fans from NZ don't have much to crow about when it comes to boxing and since Parker has come onto the scene they have backed their man all the way. It's good to back your man but don't hype him up. I'm a Kiwi and see huge potential in him. Hand speed is probably the best in the division. Great Jab. Great combinations. Body punching is good. Footwork is good. He has some great tools but its easier to show those tools against poor opposition.
Anthony Joshua fans are the exact same way as the Parker fans. The dude can punch and is huge. Good jab. Huge right hand. He's also quite quick.
After the Whyte fight I think a lot of people have come back down to earth a little and realized he's not ready for Haye or Fury or Povetkin etc
But thats OK!!! Everyone keeps forgetting they are still learning their craft and aren't the finished product.
Both of them have the potential to be the top 2 in the division one day but that's not this year or even 2017.
Patience people. Let them get there in their own time.
Haha there a pics of Tyson Fury partying with Parker after the fight and doing a Haka with Parker and Manu Vatuvei lol
Not sure all is rosey between the Fury clan
It's obvious Joshua and Parker won't be fighting any time soon.
The only reason Duco is calling out Joshua is because they are using Joshuas name to get Parkers name more recognition.
I don't usually credit Duco because they are rubbish but it was a smart move by them.
All of Parkers hopeful future opponents are also Joshuas opponents.
Who would you rather fight if you were the Duhapas and Molinas of the fight game?
Unknown but very dangerous Parker?
Or a very well known PPV star adonis looking Joshua who will guarantee a big pay day?
Since these lower tier guys will probably lose to both of them, getting paid and losing to Joshua who is already being talked about as the future dominant champion isn't as bad as the relatively unknown guy from little old New Zealand.
I like Parker but he beats Jason Bergman and all of a sudden he's better than Vlad according to the WBO? Is the WBO trying to make people think the rankings are meaningless because that is a joke.
I think it's because he's got all the random WBO affiliate titles and has defended them a few times.
The rankings are actually quite ridiculous across the board.
Parker and Joshua ranked in the top 10 of any organization is ridiculous.
If they beat someone in the top 10 then that's when they deserve a ranking.
Beating an old Kali Meehan and an unknown Dillian Whyte who was getting hit far too easily by Brian Minto doesn't deserve a ranking in the top 20 nevermind the top 10 or 5.
That's boxing for ya tho!!
I think Whyte should probably shut his fat mouth. The dudes claim to fame is suffering a savage beatdown by a novice AJ.
Watch Whyte vs Minto and you will see how his skills are compared to other HWs. He's got a good chin and good power but that's all.
Would the British public be interested in a Parker vs Haye fight?
Just genuinely interested because I'm sure the NZ public would love it and I'm assuming the Brits would love to see Haye KO Parker. I imagine it would be a big money fight too.
Haye knocking out one of the hottest prospects would be huge for Hayes resurgence.
